About Fiona Hingston

The owners, Patrick and Fiona have lived in the village of West Horrington for over thirty years - they obviously love the place! Kingdom Cottage is situated in what was the bottom of their garden.

Whilst they are happy to help and advise in what ever capacity they also respect the privacy of the guests staying at Kingdom Cottage. (pictured - Gus our friendly lurcher)

A lovely well appointed cottage with everything you need. Set in a peaceful little village

  • 5 of 5

A lovely place to stay, with the cottage having everything you might need and more and being beautifully furnished and decorated. A truely relaxing and peaceful location to get away from the business of life, while not being too far away from lots of beautiful and interesting places (Wells, Bath, Dunster Castle and Somerton to name but a few).

Bang On!

  • 5 of 5

With perfect summer weather and a beautiful and quiet location, we just had the best of times here at Kingdom cottage.

Wells is within very easy reach and always welcoming and the view from Glastonbury Tor is well worth the effort.

A lovely part of the world and our holiday was truly bang on!

Cheers Fiona & Patrick

Lovely stay

  • 4 of 5

September break before children go back to uni. The cottage is spacious enough to spend time apart and time together. The kitchen is very well equipped.

We enjoyed exploring the local area, including suggestions from Patrick, one of the owners.

Lovely home in an idyllic setting

  • 5 of 5

We have had a lovely (if a tad wet) week in Kingdom cottage. A great, well equipped home in a lovely little hamlet. Only improvement could be a door on the en-suite 😊

Wonderful little cafe just around the corner and an easy bus journey during the weekday into Wells where you'll find a dose of history and some great eateries.

So many day trips on the doorstep too, recommend Wooky Hole, Bishops Palace in Wells, Longleat and Bath.

If you need a cab in the evening we suggest Wooky Cabs. Helpful and friendly drivers with luxury cars.

Fiona and Patrick are lovely, very welcoming and friendly. We felt like part of the community by the end of the week, everyone is sooooo friendly in the Hamlet. Not one person walks past you without saying hello, even the kids on their way to school call out a greeting in the mornings. 😊

We hope to return at some point in the future.

Further Details:

A walk to the end of the village will reward the visitor with a view of Biddlecombe, a wooded valley with a meandering stream that flows down to feed the pools in the Bishops Palace. There are plenty of other walks to enjoy here too: take the path that leads across the fields to Wells or follow the stream and find the Buddle House which was once used for lead mining.

The city of Wells is two miles away, with its magnificent Cathedral and the delightful moated Bishops Palace and garden. The city has a market on Wednesday and Saturday and a choice of pubs and restaurants for wining and dining.

For a more 'alternative' shopping experience Glastonbury is the place to visit. Now known worldwide for its Festival, Glastonbury is also home to the Rural Life Museum and Abbey and a visit would not be complete without a walk up the Tor for panoramic views of the Somerset Levels. During the winter months the nature reserves on The Levels are where great flocks of starlings gather to roost: a sight that, once seen, is never forgotten.

Other local towns include Frome, with many independent shops and cafes, and Street, famous for Clarks shoes and its retail outlet Clarks Village.

Bath and Bristol are twenty miles away and other places of interest include: Longleat Safari Park, Wookey Hole & Cheddar Caves plus many National Trust properties such as Stourhead and Barrington Court. Stonehenge and Avebury are an hour and a half away.

For those who like walking there are plenty of trails and pathways to be explored on The Mendips and at various RSPB reserves in the area.

There are two golf courses nearby, an indoor swimming pool in Wells and a lovely open air pool in Street.
