About Caroline Wood

Caroline is a photographer focusing mainly on weddings and portraits. Her family have lived in Somerset for over thirty years. She enjoys the garden, the countryside and walking the dog!

Caroline Wood purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Caroline Wood chose Glastonbury

Somerset is a beautiful county with great variety. It offers great contrasts from the wild, flat areas of the levels and Exmoor to the higher grounds of The Mendips, The Quantocks and The Blackdown Hills. It has picturesque villages and wonderfully remote country lanes but not far away are the cities of Bath and Bristol with their own history and sites to see. In Somerset the pace of life can seem slower and the climate gentle. It is a rural county with many diverse industries, be it cider making, basket weaving or cheese!

What makes this cottage unique

The property is in a peaceful location backing onto lovely countryside with walks from the doorstep. It is close by many places of interest, most especially Glastonbury with The Tor and ruined Abbey and the city of Wells with its magnificent Cathedral, Bishops Palace and Vicar's Close. This area of Somerset offers exciting landscapes like Cheddar Gorge and Ebbor Gorge and Burrington Combe. There are country houses and beautiful gardens to visit. The famous Stourhead is close by so too Lytes Cary and Montacute House. Then there is the completely different landscape of the Somerset Levels rich in History and wild life. It is a land of myths and legends and it is a county famous for its Cheddar cheese, its cider, its caves and its carnivals.

There is a wealth of things to see and do in the area, whether it be the city life of Bath and Bristol, with the cathedral city of Wells on your doorstep, or the quieter interests of the beautiful surrounding countryside, offering lots of walking and cycling opportunities. There are a number of National Trust properties nearby and Nature Reserves with an abundance of bird and wildlife. There are places of historical interest and the stunning Jurassic coastline of Dorset to visit as well as the seaside towns from Minehead to Weston-super-Mare along the Bristol Channel. There is Cheddar famed for its caves and for the magnificent Cheddar Gorge and the less well known Burrington Combe and Deer Leap with the annual horse fair, in August, up at Priddy village. Cider making and basketry, from locally grown willow, are traditional crafts, and the area is home to many artists and craftsmen who showcase their work, often exhibiting in the annual Somerset Art Week held over two weeks in the Autumn. November is carnival time - one of the largest carnivals in Europe -
