Cottage In Brampton (Near Aylsham), Norfolk

Updated: 12-Oct-2016
Cottage in Brampton, Nr. Norwich, North Norfolk, England - Beautiful Traditional Cottage In Peaceful Village In Bure Valley

Dove Cot is a lovely 200 year old brick and flint cottage situated in the delightful village of Brampton on the River Bure. It has 2 bedrooms (one leading off the other) and sleeps 3-4. The cottage is full of character and retains many original features - such as the Norfolk winder staircase and bread oven. It has full central heating as well as an open fire in the sitting-room. The property is very well-equipped, and the decoration and furnishing is to a high standard. Brampton is ideally placed between Norwich, the North Norfolk coast, and the Broads. There are many lovely walks in the vicinity, several directly from the cottage - the water meadows of the River Bure are a wonderful place to study birds and a favourite spot for water-colourists. Brampton is just 3 miles from the historic market town of Aylsham, and 5 miles from the marvellous National Trust property of Blickling Hall. As well as walking, Norfolk is a great place for cycling and canoes can be hired locally for a trip along the river. Brampton is 12 miles from Norwich. 12 miles from Cromer and Overstrand. 7 miles from Wroxham and the Broads.

About the Owner

Fiona and Tim Scott worked as schoolteachers in Derbyshire for many years, but are now retired and live permanently in Trinity Cottage (which is attached to Dove Cot). They bought the cottage many years ago for holidays, partly because Tim is from Norwich and they had both always loved Norfolk, but also because it filled all their needs for family holidays, situated as it is near the sea, the Broads, Norwich and the wonderful countryside and bird sanctuaries of North Norfolk.

High Quality accomodation in a peaceful village.

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our short stay at Dove Cottage, Very Clean Well equipped,Spacious and Quirky throughout.

Fiona (The owner) was there to welcome us on arrival and helped us make our stay hassle free and comfortable. The cottage had everything you needed, home from home. The open fire was most welcoming with Fiona providing the wood and coal, as it got very cold on a night, but it heated all of the cottage up.

It was a great location for me and my husband, with plenty of walks, sights and nature to see. a very peaceful Location, enjoyed walks along the River Bure behind the cottage and the Bure valley railway.

It was a romantic Valantines wk-end away and loved every minute, It ticked all the boxes and we will certainly be returning to this property and would not hesitate in recommending it.

Lovely, cosy cottage!

  • 5 of 5

A bit of a trip from Hertfordshire, especially with the Friday traffic. The village is lovely. Really quaint. Excellent getaway locality. The cottage itself had a fantastic atmosphere. Really cosy, cottagey feel. The owner was nearby if anything happens. Fuel was provided for the open fire. Due to the heating being very efficient we never had the need to use it. Everything was clean. The bed was very comfortable (doesn't happen too often). Absolute blast I must say! Too bad the weather for us wasn't the best but next time we will have more activities planned (Norwich is nearby, board games are available, the country side is lovely too for walk/run). All in all I can only recommend!

From the Owner

We bought Trinity cottage and its annexe cottage (now Dove Cot) when we first married, as we lived in a school house and wanted somewhere to go in the holidays. We chose Norfolk because we both loved the area, and enjoy walking, cycling, and other outdoor pursuits, as well as the wonderful fresh air and good weather. Brampton is a very pretty village nestling near the water meadows of the Bure River, just 3 miles from the beautiful historic market town of Aylsham and 11 miles from the stunning mediaeval city of Norwich.

From the Owner

Dove Cot was built in the 18th century in flint and Norfolk clay lump, with brick facing. The property is renovated to a high standard whilst retaining all the character of such a historic building. The cottage is centrally heated, but also has an open fire in the sitting room. The staircase is rather steep and twisty (so possibly not suitable for the very elderly), but the whole building exudes charm and cosiness. The surroundings are beautiful and particularly peaceful, as Brampton is not on a 'through' road.
