We loved the house and convenient location, perfect for a multi - generation get-together. We had a very nice meal at The Scotsman's Pack - good food and warm welcome. For the little ones we can recommend Chatsworth Farm and Adventure Playground - brilliant! Thanks again for the home made cake.

Probably the best stay we have ever had in Hathersage. Accommodation is very comfortable and spacious, Favourite activities have to include cycling The Monsal Trail down to Bakewell. We can recommend the Plough for fantastic food.

Great house, great location, great service

  • 5 of 5

We booked the house for seven adults as we had a family party in nearby Hope. Pip was a great host - lots of communication during the booking process and prior to arrival, and even arrived with a warm lemon cake when we arrived. The house is well appointed, clean, lovely upstairs sitting room, large dining room to accommodate all of us (not that we cooked), and comfortable beds. The only thing that is missing is mirrors close to plug sockets (getting ready for the aforementioned party was tricky).

The Scotsman's Pack is a lovely pub with good food and a warm welcome, and Coleman's deli did a great coffee (much needed after the party!). The David Mellor cutlery factory also has a lovely cafe. Would highly recommend the house to anyone wanting to stay in Hathersage.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely revue, I am pleased that you had a great time in Hathersage and that the cottage was comfortable for you, I have made a note of the location of mirrors to plugs which I will try to rectify and I hope to welcome you back again one day.

Family get-together

1 Grandma with 5 Grandbabies and their parents for a long week. Wonderful! The house offered us everything we needed -- except a separate fridge for the booze only!!

Everyone loved the house, the garden, the village and the playground. It was all fab. We are hoping to book again as we all so enjoyed being together in such great surroundings.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a lovely review, I am pleased you all had a lovely break and and enjoyed spending some quality time with your grandchildren, it was lovely hearing them play in the garden. I hope we have the pleasure of a return visit and keep in mind the village outdoor heated pool will be open from 19th March which I guarantee the children would love. I've made a note of the booze fridge request and just need to think where to put one. Many thanks. Pip

Anniversary Weekend for friends

  • 5 of 5

We stayed from 29th Jan to 1 February. Eight mature friends. We found the cottage a real pleasure to be in, clean tidy and well kept. It suited us down to the ground. With the local walks, pubs and resturants it was a weekend we all thoroughly enjoyed. The friendly treament we received from Pip added to our stay, and as has already been said the lemon drizzle cake, eaten when warm did not last too long.

Beautiful cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from our annual trip to the Peak District - 7 adults and one dog. Topcroft Cottage is one of the nicest properties we have stayed in. It is really spacious, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Our favourite aspect was the huge dining room where the seven of us could sit round the farmhouse table in front of a roaring log fire. There are plenty of pubs and places to eat. We recommend the food at The Scotsman's Pack.on School Lane and we also enjoyed an Indian takeaway from Maazi which is just down the road. We hiked along Stanage Edge ( breathtaking scenery) and also went to see the dam at Ladybower Reservoir. Hathersage itself has lots of interesting history - the grave of Little John us in the churchyard and the Bronte sisters got inspiration for their books when visiting friends in the village. The icing on the cake ( quite literally) was the owner, Pip, calling round with freshly made lemon drizzle cake and bread - yum! Couldn't recommend this accommodation highly enough and I'm sure we'll return.

Lovely place, Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is really lovely, spacious and yet feels cosy. 7 of us descended on the property for a weekend.

We loved how homely it felt and how much space there was. All being able to get around the huge dining table for our evening meal with the wood burner going was fantastic.

There are pubs and restaurants nearby. The garden is nice and big and the cottage also has a BBQ, which was extremely welcome.

There were also some nice touches from the host on our arrival (like a lemon drizzle cake awaiting us) and lots of literature on walks and activities in the area and other useful bits.

I strongly recommend this cottage and hope we can return soon.

Lovely retreat

  • 5 of 5

We shared this cottage with some family friends for a weekend in November, none of us had visited the region before. It really has a marvellous location in the heart of the pretty village of Hathersage. The local amenities are more than enough for the average visitor. Topcroft itself is a super house. The minute we stepped inside we knew we had booked a great stay. We were greeted with complimentary lemon drizzle cake and fresh bread. The whole house has such a homely feel. Within an hour the wood burner was lit and we were well and truly cosy!. Beds were very comfy, Showers superb. Loved the space we had, topcroft is quite a large property so really good to not be tripping over the kids all the time! Close to some wonderful walks and super views. We plan to return. A well maintained well equipped rental, which is even better than the internet pics.
