Overview

About the property

2 bed cottage in the heart of Wells-next-the-Sea, walking distance of beach.

Located on the historic high street, Elgin Cottage is just moments from the shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, 450 yards from the bustling harbour and an easy walk (or v short drive) to the beach. Perfect for a family holiday or a get together with friends it provides the ideal base to explore this stunning area of North Norfolk. The cottage is full of character and furnished to a high standard. The building is on three floors. Downstairs is a well equipped kitchen and a comfortable living room with a fold-out dining table. A door from the kitchen leads to the courtyard garden. Stairs from the living room lead to the master bedroom with views over the High Street. A bathroom with a shower is also on this level. Stairs accessed via a door from the master bedroom lead to a large room with three beds, tucked away at the top of the house. A door from the kitchen leads to a courtyard garden and an outbuilding with a washing machine and tumble drier, toilet and electric shower.

Please note that access to the second bedroom is via the master bedroom. Although the cottage sleeps 5, please bear in mind that the living room is not large, so up to 4 is the ideal number. Families of 5 are very welcome but it is probably not ideal for 3 older children (i.e. teenagers).

NB We are very happy to do short breaks out of the main holiday season, but please ignore the quote Owners Direct give you as they just divide the weekly rate by seven and multiply by the number of days. It doesn't take into account extra cleaning and laundry costs. Please send an enquiry and we will provide a quote. All rates are listed on our website at www.elgincottage.co.uk

Central Location, Home-from-home

  • 5 of 5

Our family of three stayed here in late August. The house is so central and there are so many thoughtful touches in the house that you know Fiona and her family have travelled and understand what people want when they are away.

The house is cosy, comfortable and perfect for relaxing after a day out. It is ideally placed for all the shops, restaurants and bars and parking is really easy. We may well book again next year, so get in quick!

Lovely cottage, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed our stay at Elgin Cottage. The cottage itself was very comfortable and tastefully decorated and the location was just ideal. We loved the town of Wells itself and ate out at a different restaurant every night (all a very short walk from the cottage) and made full use of the excellent Coasthopper bus service to do some superb walks along the Norfolk Coastal path. We look forward to returning in the summer.

Excelleny

  • 5 of 5

Great cozy cottage, brilliant location easy walking distance of restaurants, pubs, beach etc.

The cottage was well equipped with everything you need, nice and clean too. One minor blip if it's two couples staying, then having to go through the other bedroom during the night to the bathroom is not ideal at all. Unfortunately that would put us off returning again which is such a shame as we loved it. Great for a family.

Compact and Comfortable Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Everything we expected. Small but comfy and cosy. Very close to all that's going on in Wells such as shopping, eateries, coastal walks.

Surprising how much was going on this time of year in the general area. Only the local Stately Homes were closed but we were aware of that. However the gardens of most were still open as were the shops attached to them.

The North Norfolk Coastal Path is easily accessed going north or south and takes you to some interesting nature reserves, ideal for dedicated 'twitchers'.

The accommodation was fine for us two and I would imagine adding a couple of young children would not cause undue problems but 4 adults may find it a bit too 'cosy'. As long as you are aware of what you are renting and it's restrictions we have no hesitation in recommending this lovely little property, suitable for any time of year.

Coast/Beach:

The bustling harbour is 450 yards away. Wells has a beautiful wide sandy beach with colourful beach huts set against a backtrop of pine trees and sand dunes. Either drive, take a walk from the harbour or catch the miniature steam train (very popular with children!). The stunning beach of Holkham is just 2.5 miles away.

Travel:

A car is ideal to allow you to explore this beautiful area of North Norfolk. There is a frequent Coast Hopper bus that runs along the coast road so it is easy to walk to other places and bus back or just visit other places without using the car

By bus

Services run from King's Lynn, Norwich, Fakenham and Sheringham.

Further Details:

Staithe Street with a plethora of local independent shops and cafes is just moments away. Around the corner from Elgin Cottage is the Buttlands, a quiet green lined with lime trees and elegant Georgian and Victorian houses. The name originates from the days it was used for archery practice. It is now home to The Crown Hotel, a former coaching inn from the 16th century, and the recently renovated Globe Inn - both fabulous places to eat and drink.

You will be spoilt for choice for things to do in this beautiful part of North Norfolk. It is a wonderful destination whether you're looking for a family holiday, or a place to unwind and relax. From birdwatching to building sandcastles on some of the country's most beautiful beaches, bracing coastal walks to visiting stately homes, there is plenty to do and explore and Elgin Cottage provides the perfect base!
