Apartment on Cabral Beach, Boa Vista Island, Cape Verde - Quiet Location, 10 Mins Walk To Town, 2 Mins To Beach. Friendly, safe environment

Spacious frontline apartment (directly overlooking sea, beach and pool) with 2 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms + baby cot and double sofabed in this large, airy ground floor apartment. Wheelchair accessible. Conveniently located. Very well equipped, home from home. Supermarkets and restaurants nearby.

Small friendly complex of 7 x 3 floor blocks overlooking vast unspoilt sandy beach. Sleeps 6 + baby. Balcony off sitting room with sea and pool views + terrace off to the side for BBQs and/or sunbathing. Fully equipped gym in the next door complex, that can be used for a daily charge, and a free exercise area with equipment just nearby on the beach opposite. Sal Rei (meaning Salt King) is the main town, just a 500m walk or 5 euro taxi ride from the apartment.

For self caterers there is a fully equipped kitchen: a local bakery, fishmarket, butcher, fruit and veg market, supermarkets plus lots of small family grocer shops, looking like they're in their homes (which they probably are), also souvenir and art shops a short walk away in town. Otherwise, a growing number of good quality restaurants offering Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and Cape Verdean cuisine and snacks at reasonable prices within easy walking distance after a busy days' sightseeing; or take a local taxi further afield for 3-4 euros to lovely restaurants right on the beach or possibly a disco.

Closer to home (in fact just opposite the apt), Bart and Els welcome you to their Elcibar pool bar/restaurant next to the pool, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and drinks all day except Monday. There is also a bar/supermarket in the next door complex (VC1) basement called etcetera. Several bars in town and along Estoril beach have live local music (Bob Marley's music is very popular) and the large hotels have theme evenings. New restaurant/bars are opening all the time, and it is fun trying different ones. All tastes and budgets are catered for, some of the best being in the most unlikely looking places.

The local currency is the Cape Verdean Escudo, but most places take Euros, and will give you change in Ecudos. The rate is currently 1 euro = 900 CV escudos, or £1 = 1100 CV escudos. The best thing to do is take Euros and change them to Escudos at one of the banks in Sal Rei town.

Airport pick up and welcome pack on arrival included in price or reduction if not required. Transport time from airport is 10 - 15 mins. 24 hour security. Parking right outside. Daily/weekly hire for beach buggies, cars, scooters, bicycles.

Suitable for all age groups, whether looking for a peaceful break or an activity holiday in this emerging, unspoilt location. All amenities such as Post Office, banks, supermarkets etc are nearby and within walking distance. Close to the newly built port.

Plenty of opportunity for surfing, wind and kite surfing, diving, fishing, dune buggying, touring or just lazing with a drink and a good book. Whale watching and turtle watching at certain times of year.

Facilities for disabled, elderly and wheelchair users (wheelchair bound owner). Please enquire about facilities available - bath lift/grab rails/bed riser blocks. Level access/ramps to apartment and pool area.

Boa Vista is one of 10 Cape Verde Islands, situated 500k west of Senegal in the Atlantic Ocean, The Islands of Cape Verde enjoy their own diverse culture, strong sense of history and identity that has been widely influenced by Africa, Portugal and Brazil, yet remain unique to the Cape Verde islands. The ten islands all offer something different, with enough beauty and beguiling charm for even the most seasoned traveller, along with a tropical climate and miles of beautiful light golden sandy beaches. With flights under 6 hours from the UK, the small time difference and the friendly people, it is hard to beat as an all-round holiday destination, and still low key enough to feel like a bit of a discovery. Boa Vista is home to some of the most dazzling beaches on the archipelago covering a staggering 55km. it is also one of the nesting areas for the endangered Loggerhead turtles, and they be can be seen nesting and/or hatching at certain times of year. Plus the humpback whales spend time just off the islands with their babies Apr-Jul each year. Closest to the African mainland, Boa Vista is not only renowned for its stunning beaches but its marine life too. Nightlife here is very low key and mostly quiet with just a scattering of good quality and varied local restaurants and bars. Boa Vista is quite literally covered in sand and many buildings have been completely absorbed leaving an endless blanket of sand. A great example of this is on Praia da Chaves, an old ceramic factory covered in sand is still intact with machines in situ! Sahara like dunes in the interior of the island with sprouting date palms are an impressive sight and well worth a visit. Depending on the time of year you may even spot some turtles on the island's southern beaches. Boa Vista is thought to be the third most important loggerhead turtle nesting site in the world, with the favoured time of year for turtles to nest usually being during the months of June through to September. The miles of unspoilt coast line are excellent for you to enjoy uninterrupted walks as well as being a popular location for windsurfing and kitesurfing enthusiasts. Other watersports such as snorkelling and scuba diving are available in addition to quad biking tours and line, beach and deep-sea fishing. There are several festivals on the island including the common music festival that takes place on Santa Cruz in August. The other main colourful festival is: Santa Isabel (Municipality Day) 4 July - The day of Santa Isabel, the patron saint of the island. Celebrated with processions, swimming, horse racing, tours and a public ball. Hot Tip for Boa Vista. In addition to turtles on the beach you may catch a glimpse of whales in the islet of Sal Rei, a feeding ground for humpback whales and a magical sight if you are lucky enough to experience it. Whale sightings usually takes place from April through to June.

About the Owner

I have a farming and a business background, but am confined to a wheelchair after breaking my neck in a horse riding accident 35 years ago.

Despite this, I love travelling, and saw these off-plan apartments advertised in 2006/7. After visiting these enchanting islands, I decided to invest. It has been dubbed "The New Caribbean", but is completely unspoiled and still has its traditional African/Portuguese charm. Due to the world recession the units are only just completed.

I like to go there a couple of times a year in the cooler (21-24 degC) months (Nov-Apr).

I like to feel the apartment is 'home from home', and have tried to furnish and equip it accordingly.

The apt is all on the level, but has no specific 'disabled' things installed. Please ask if you have any specific enquiries.

Speaks English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Czech, Danish, Norwegian, Polish, Hungarian, Finnish, Email translation service used, excuse mistakes.

Great place - made the trip worthwhile!

The apartment was brilliant and served us well over the week we were in Cape Verde! It is within a few minutes walk into the centre of town, has a beach straight across the road and the little shop within the building was one of the best places! Would book again when I head back!

Vila Cabral II - November 2016

Had a lovely stay in ground floor apartment facing Cabral beach. It was adjacent to ElciBar the pool bar which was new since our last visit to Boa Vista. Apartment was spacious with two bedrooms, bathroom and shower room and large lounge/diner/kitchen - plenty of room for 4 if needed. Met at airport by local agent and taken to apartment for introduction. Everything we needed was in the apartment, although it has does not have aircon we found that leaving the bedroom and lounge windows open with fly screens in place there was a cooling air flow right through during the night. The kitchen tap has a filter included for drinking quality water which saved carrying it back from the shops on a frequent basis. There is a TV with DVD player attached but no TV signal. The flat is 10 minutes walk across an unmade area to the big local supermarket and about 15 minutes from all the restaurants in town; take a torch!

We used ElciBar a lot during our stay for brunch, lunch, evening meals, beer, cocktails and wifi access(chargeable). Staff very friendly, food very varied and good, wine and beer cost effective. No noise for the bar affected us even though it was so close.

Recommended. Will do some TripAdvisor reviews of eateries in Sal Rei soon-ish as several of those were very good too.

Boa Vista stay

We stayed for a week at Geris Boa Vista appt. The complex is pretty peaceful all day and night and has a lovely relaxing atmosphere to it. The location is perfect for access to a beautiful beach and a short walk into the local town. The apartment was clean and had everything we needed for the week. No air con but this was not an issue as ceiling fans were sufficient. The complex was also very well looked after and the pool always immaculate. During our stay a small business offering massage and other relaxation therapies opened up. A lovely addition to the complex. Would definitely visit again.

I had also had mosquito blinds fitted just before your stay, and installed a bbq which will be nice on the new side patio area. Also, there are windows front and back, so there is always a cooling through draught even when it's very hot. I believe Marina's massage 'parlour' nearby will prove very popular with owners and guests alike either before or after a refreshing swim and/or drink, meal or snack at Elcibar - all within 2 minutes stroll!!

Boa Vista stay

Our 2 weeks stay at this apartment proved successful. The internal

arrangements for the complex the apartment is on is excellent. Matt

met us as the airport to transport us to the apartment and show us round.

Welcome pack a nice touch also. The only thing we would say is that

the apartment is lacking air-conditioning. Even though we didn't have 2

weeks of sun the temperature was in the late 20's and we feel

it would help. There was a floor fan in one of the bedrooms.

Geri the owner couldn't have been more helpful with our questions

before we booked and we look forward to viewing her Sal apartment

in the future.

Owner's Response: Hi Elaine, Thank you for your review. I am very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and I appreciate constructive comments. However, I would point out that in addition to the floor standing fan, there is a small personal fan plus 3 x 2 speed large ceiling fans (1 in each room), that are very effective. Only about 3 or 4 apartments out of 60 have installed air-con, as it has not been deemed necessary. Also, since you have mentioned it, I have now put in an additional 'air cooler' for guest's comfort, plus had mosquito blinds fitted, so that the windows can be kept open as/when necessary. Thank you again, and I look forward to welcoming you if/when you decide on Sal as your next holiday destination.

Location

This is a new development in a fantastic emerging location. Said to be "The New Caribbean". Still unspoilt with many original Portuguese/African features and local festivals. Traditional local way of life, and lots of old architecture. Suitable for all ages, types and abilities. Good quality fittings, furnishings, linen, towels etc. The apt is spacious and has lovely South West facing views to the ocean, whilst also having privacy, closeness to the bar, pool and restaurant and a 15 minute walk to the main town of Sal Rei. See my great reviews on Trip Advisor, Holiday Lettings and Home Away websites. Fabulous white sand beaches for long peaceful walks by the ocean.

25 metres to large, quiet, white sandy beach. Other beaches within walking distance and even more a short drive away. Beach and rocks fishing. Deep sea fishing.

Travel:

Rabil (Sal Rei) airport 10-15mins drive. Car hire available but not essential.

Currently a visa is required costing 25 euro cash per person on arrival at the airport.

Distances:

Nearest town Sal Rei (translates to salt king), is 500 metres, either a 10-15 minute walk or a 3 euro taxi ride.

Further Details:
