About Marian McNeir

We love to share our holiday apartment with guests who also appreciate the wonderful facilities, like the award winning garden, the heated indoor / outdoor pool and the nearby beach. It is ideal for couples and families alike and most of our guests come back year after year -- see their comments on our website -- www.cornishhols.com

Marian McNeir purchased this apartment in 2004

Why Marian McNeir chose Newquay & St Austell area

Most of our guests are returning guests ( see the Comments page on our website - www.cornishhols.com ). They love Fowey for its unspoilt harbour and buzzy little town. The Garden View Apartment at Carnethic House is an easy walk in to town and down the lane to the beach but is very private in its own grounds. It's lovely and peaceful but not in any way remote. Fowey is an unspoilt gem with a lively local community which welcomes holiday makers especially to its festivals, like Regatta Week, The Food Festival and the famous Festival of Words and Music in May. Fowey is also ideally placed for exploring the famous Cornish gardens like Heligan and historic houses like Lanhydrock.

Winter is equally lovely for bracing walks, stunning gardens visits and then it's great to come back to a gentle swim and sauna and then curling up in front of the log fire and watching a favourite DVD.

Just to get away to a short break can be relaxing and recuperative .

What makes this apartment unique

The Garden View Apartment at Carnethic House is on the ground floor of a fine period house and faces south, overlooking the beautiful gardens . It is light and sunny with all rooms having access to the full length covered balcony -- ideal for entertaining outdoors. The icing on the cake is the large, heated indoor / outdoor pool and Finnish sauna -- much loved by all guests ! It's a perfect escape at any time of year especially with the log fire for cosy evenings at home.

The perfect apartment

  • 5 of 5

The property was lovely - it was clean, a good size for a couple or a young family and it had everything you needed for a stay away from home. The garden and swimming pool were an excellent bonus - swimming a couple of days with the roof off the pool was fantastic. The owner also provided some great insight into restaurants and local walks. The location of this apartment is great for access to all of Cornwall, plus having a parking space right outside the apartment was good. I would highly recommend this apartment, I'm now just trying to figure out when I can get there again.

Excellent family get away

  • 5 of 5

Stayed with my wife and two children for 3 nights from 29th Dec. If you love Fowey, quiet walks, amazing scenery, heated pool for the kids, and peace and quiet then Carnethic House is the place for you!

The apartment itself is spacious with two good sized bedrooms and an open fire in the living room. All rooms open out to the gardens leading to the swimming pool and sauna.

Fowey itself is a short walk. You can access a pedestrian footpath from the bottom of the garden. This takes you down to Readymoney cove and from there to the main town.

Overall a really nice stay. Marian the owner was really helpful and I would have no hesitation recommending.

Fantastic holiday apartment!

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed here a number of times over the past few years and keep coming back for more! It's a great apartment, perfectly located just outside beautiful Fowey, with a shared pool and well maintained gardens, perfect for families. Highlights on this trip were the Hall Walk (great views), nearby Lanhydrock house and gardens (large NT property with loads to do) and dinner at Sam's on the Beach (great food, booking essential). Also well situated for the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Helligan. Overall a wonderfully relaxing break - we'll be coming back!

Lovely getaway

  • 5 of 5

Returning to Carnethic House for the second year running was a real joy; we and our nine year old daughter had been looking forward to it all year with the promise of a lovely cosy and comfortable appartment, beautiful grounds, a fabulous swimming pool, and all the delights of Fowey and the surrounding area. Everything we needed!

Beautiful apartment in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

We've just returned from a lovely and very relaxing week in Fowey.

The apartment itself is spacious, modern but with original features and beautifully decorated and very well equipped. It has everything you could ever need and really feels like home from home. The bedding and pillows are of a very high quality, which I find is very rare now in holiday accomadation, so was a nice surprise !

The owner is very helpful and quick to respond to any messages/emails. She's made a folder which is packed full of information about the local area, which was very useful ! It was my daughters birthday and Marian even out a birthday note on the door and bought her a card and present which made her day ! Such a thoughtful touch :)

The apartment also has wifi which was a great plus !

The weather was rather inclement so having the pool was an amazing bonus ! The whole place is very child friendly and lots of toys in the pool for them to play with too :)

I honestly can't write enough about this super apartment, we really did have the best time !

Perfect girls weekend

  • 5 of 5

I have been having an affair with Fowey for several years which has now been made even more magical by the discovery of this fabulous apartment for a long weekend with 3 girlfriends. It is stunning in beautiful tranquil grounds with the bonus of a swimming pool and sauna. So, already booked for the August regatta week and one of the girls about to book for a week with her husband in September. Marian, the owner, is a delight to deal with and if I win the lottery I will be making her an offer hopefully she can't refuse!

Fowey in Summer

Only one school holiday week left from 26 August - hurry - will go soon ! Only 1 September week left -- from 2 to 9th.

Enjoy a relaxing break with our wonderful heated indoor/ outdoor pool and Finnish sauna.

There are stunning walks from the house and the beach is a short walk down a country lane or visit nearby Eden with its magical domes and the lovely world famous Cornish valley gardens and then come home to a swim, and sauna

Fowey is a delightful " real " place by the sea where there is always a gentle buzz and excellent cafes and restaurants.

A great place to enjoy with family and friends !

Coast/Beach:

The beach at Readymoney Cove is a short walk down a little lane. It is a safe, sheltered , child friendly sandy beach with rock pools and good swimming in summer. There is good access to cliff walks and the coastal path from the house. The north coast with surfing is 30 minutes drive. There are many other beaches a short drive away. Fowey has two yacht clubs and is a paradise for sailing enthusiasts. It is easy to hire a small boat and go " creeking ", that is to sail into the lovely little creeks on the Fowey river -- great fun to take a picnic and laze away the afternoon.

There are many varied walks direct from the house including the Coastal path and down to secluded coves like Menabilly.

Garden enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with famous NT and Great Gardens of Cornwall on the doorstep as well as private gardens open for charity throughout the year. Cornish gardens are especially lovely early in the year and well worth visiting.

NT properties like Lanhydrock are open all year and others like Trerice and Cotehele have special winter events. The famous Eden Project is also open all year with special events in winter like ice skating.

Fowey itself is delightful at any time of year with its life being centred on the water -- a Cornish gem.

Travel:

The nearest airports are Exeter ( 1.5 hours by car ) and Newquay ( 30 minutes by car ). The nearest train station in Par ( 10 minutes by car ). Direct trains from London take approx 4 hours. Most people come by car but it is not necessary to have a car -- beach, town, harbour within walking distance.

Distances:

Fowey harbour and shops, cafes are 15 minutes walk. NT properties like Lanhydrock, Heligan and the Eden Project are no more than 30 mins away by car.

Further Details:

Local shops and bank in town. Good mixture of cafes and restaurants -- child friendly with terraces overlooking the water and stunning views. A favourite is a converted lifeboat station at Polkerris with its safe sandy beach and rock pools.
