About Dr. Ian Jowett

We are a family of 4, my wife and 2 boys work and go to school locally. The cottage is their home during term time, apart from the summer term.

Dr. Ian Jowett purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Dr. Ian Jowett chose Giggleswick

We bought Lychgate cottage in September 2013 as a second home. My wife works locally and our children go to the school near by. We wanted to create a home from home environment for term time and to save on a 2 hour daily commute. We've managed to achieve this by carefully decorating and refurbishing. Our cottage is only available during school holidays apart from the summer term.

What makes this cottage unique

The location is great! Local pub just 20 yards away (literally within crawling distance) serving good food and great beers! Walking the dog is a a pleasure, lots of routes with great views of the surrounding hills and the River Ribble, starting from the front door. Settle with it's shops, Booths supermarket and weekly market offer great convenience in a friendly environment.

Perfect for a quiet walking holiday

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I plus our dog stayed in this lovely cottage in the middle of the Yorkshire Dales for a week in August.

We were wanting a place that provided a central base for us to walk each day and return to a relaxing home with good restaurants on our doorstep..Lychgate Cottage provided this and more!

Ian and Carole were excellent in their communication both before and during our stay. The cottage was spotlessly clean on our arrival and with two double rooms and a smaller single room we had lots of space for the two of us.

The cottage is located in the middle of Giggleswick which is a 10 - 15 minute walk into Settle. The village is beautiful and really quiet but with two pubs that provide standard pub food and a small shop just a couple of steps away from the cottage which is ideal for milk and sweets!

The cottage is so well equipped and has all the extras you don't always find in holiday rentals (washing up liquid, laundry powder, oils, herbs & spices). The kitchen has lots of utensils so cooking at home is very easy.

The cottage is ideal if you have a dog and the area is so well catered for dogs we could take ours into most cafes and pubs (Naked Man excepted which was a surprise)

There are so many beautiful walks right on your doorstep or further a field if you wish to drive - we will definitely return to explore the area further.

Thank you Ian and Carole for opening up your lovely cottage for us to use - we had a perfect relaxing break.

Great location, top quality home

  • 5 of 5

What a gem! The cottage is so well equipped with top quality amenities, equipment, decor etc., and is in a great location both for local amenities as well as short journeys to a whole host of places and events which you can easily visit.

We've enjoyed a train journey to Ribblehead, plenty of walks in the Dales, discovered lots of waterfalls, had a day in the Lake District (which is only about 45 minutes away), had some lovely food, went to a sheep dog demo, visited the Wensleydale creamery, and met lots of very helpful and enthusiastic people who gave us any advice we needed along the way.

PS Visit the Naked Man in Settle, you'll be well impressed!

Quality cottage in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

As a family of four, with a dog, we all thought this cottage was wonderful. The listing is accurate, fitted to a high spec, and well stocked with all the basics you never know whether to take(dishwasher tablets. tea towels, cooking oil ..).The living room is larger than the photos give credit and the stove was well stocked. Bedroom 2 is accessed by separate stairs from the kitchen, giving my eldest a lovely private space.

We have stayed in many cottages but never booked directly and found the whole experience surprisingly easy.

The Dales is what attracted us, combined with wifi and pet friendly, but the village location made it all the better. Church out one window, sweet shop out another, friendly pub to the side and another around the corner. The riverside walk makes a pleasant alternate route into Settle.
