Welcome to our holiday house in sunny Languedoc! Azille Maison is a 3 storey townhouse located in the historic centre of the lovely medieval rural town of Azille in the south France. Our delightful holiday house is situated in a very quiet street and provides excellent holiday accommodation, sleeping up to 6 people. Azille Maison is self-catering, and has:

* 3 large bedrooms with comfortable beds

* 2 bathrooms

* fully equipped modern kitchen

* free wifi

* three internal living areas

* large private courtyard

* private first floor terrace.

The house is well over 300 years old and is renovated to retain period features and ambience combined with the comforts of modern living. Bedrooms 1 and 2 both have king sized (large double) beds, and bedroom 3 has two single beds that can be joined together to make 1 large king size bed if required.

The house is equally suitable for families with children, couples and/or groups of friends, and with many activities and destinations to experience nearby, you can also enjoy a splendid relaxed meal in the house's private courtyard and end your day on the terrace with a refreshing drink.

The town of Azille is a charming and historic rural wine-making village located in the Minervois wine area and surrounded by other nearby historic and picturesque towns and tourist centres such as Carcassonne, Narbonne, Minerve, Caunes Minervois, La Redorte and Beziers. Near to many attractions, Azille is a quiet retreat out of busy tourist centres nearby, but still within an easy short drive from them.

Azille has all the essential amenities including a boulangerie (bakery), general store, bar/café, 2 restaurants, a takeaway food restaurant, a wine bar, 2 galleries, and a salon de thé. Fresh food vendors trade in the centre of town several mornings each week and there is a small produce market in Azille each Friday.

Azille and surrounding towns regularly host antique and bric-a-brac markets. Nearby towns also have weekly street markets, and also supermarkets.

Azille Maison is fully self-contained and everything you need is at your doorstep. Enjoy the local life or go further afield. Experience this wonderful area of France with many activities, historical sites and towns within 5-15 minutes drive from Azille, the Canal du Midi providing paths for walking and cycling is very close, and nearby Lac de Jouarres is for swimming, water sports and picnics.

Further afield, the historic town of Carcassonne or the Mediterranean beaches near Narbonne are each 30-40 minutes drive away, and you can drive to Spain or the Pyrenees in less than 2 hours.

Kate & Gavin live in Melbourne, Australia where we work and have a son in school.

We love travelling and over a number of years have travelled to France many times and love the culture and people there.

For a long time we dreamt of owning a house in the south of France and in 2013 were very fortunate to find our house in Azille. We loved it as soon as walked through the front door and hope that you do too.

Why Kate & Gavin chose Carcassonne surroundings

Azille Maison is a delightful, charming and comfortable house well appointed and renovated to retain the period features and traditional style of the area.

Being in the beautiful, historic and friendly town of Azille, we have found this to be a great base for exploring many of the wonderful places and the fascinating history of this part of France.

The town has all amenities including an epicerie (general store), boulangerie (bakery), a café bar, wine bar and gallery, 2 restaurants, takeaway Indian food, and a salon de thé.

Azille has close and easy access to natural areas and many historic towns and sites in the surrounding region, including the Canal du Midi very close by, heritage listed Carcassonne, and the Mediterranean coast which is only 40 minutes drive away.

What makes this house unique

Azille and several nearby towns have weekly markets on different days, and we love to browse and buy our fresh food there. We also love sitting at a cafe/restaurant by the Canal, wandering around Azille town, riding and driving around the area, playing pétanque and relaxing at the house, enjoying the local produce and wine over a long lunch or dinner in the house's private courtyard.

We enjoy wine and good food, and we love the range of wines available in the Minervois region and locally in Azille itself, as well as enjoying the great fresh produce and range of good restaurants of the area.

Azille Maison is in a great spot and the house has a lovely ambience. Kate and Gavin have set the house up really well and we felt a relaxed "home" atmosphere during our very enjoyable stay. Azille itself was charming and there was a lot to see and do in the surrounding countryside and towns. The Canal, Carcassonne and Minervois were all charming. We also enjoyed the delicious red, white and rosé wines of the area. Thanks Kate and Gavin!

Notes on accommodation: The house is renovated to retain period features and also provide comfortable and spacious modern living. With a number of interior and exterior living and quiet areas to relax, there's space for everyone to enjoy. The kitchen is fitted with modern appliances and has all cooking and eating equipment provided. Each bedroom has its own different ambiance and the beds are modern and comfortable. During cooler/colder months there is a central wood heater on the ground floor and also electric wall-mounted heaters around the ground level that keep the whole house comfortably warm. Outside: The large completely private courtyard at the back of the house contains a wooden dining table and chairs to enjoy meals or socialising. There is also a barbecue under cover outside. A private terrace at the first level at the back of the house, that can be accessed by stairs up from the courtyard or directly from inside the main bedroom at the first level. The terrace can comfortably seat 4 people, and there are chairs for the terrace stored inside the first level. The large courtyard has some greenery and also contains an upstairs atelier (workshop). The atelier that has a small landing where several people can also sit if desired. The atelier itself is not open to guests. Utility Room: Utility room stores the iron and ironing board, cleaning equipment, and also has a large fridge with freezer, and the hot water system. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included in the rental price. They are changed weekly. The property is clean on arrival and is cleaned after departure. For stays of 2 weeks or more guests clean during their stay, unless a prior arrangement is made at extra cost. Other: Large landing areas at both the first & second level stairs have comfortable seating for reading or quiet relaxation. A private terrace can be accessed by stairs from the courtyard or from inside the main bedroom at the first level

Comfortable and relaxing holiday in lovely village

The house is really comfortable. The kitchen is very well-equipped and the owners have thought of everything guests might need to make their stay feel like a home-from-home. The courtyard is lovely. The village is friendly and quiet with a boulangerie, shop and bar as well as galleries, local wine to taste and buy and a weekly market and pizza van. The surrounding area is beautiful and has a fascinating history which makes day trips to pretty nearby villages and towns a joy.

Super accommadation

We, as a family with teenage children, had a wonderful stay in this unique house, maintained in a most authentic way. Azille is a beautiful village, located between the coast and the Pyrenees. The surrounding area is delightful with picturesque villages and vinyards. We visited the beaches, the mountains and ate at fantastic local restaurants, as reccommended by Kate and Gavin. All in all a super holiday!

Magical maison

This is a charming period piece with a cottage feel. Marvellously, spaces appear around corners and stairwells that have so many functions - reading nooks and conversation wells - with even three couples, room for private retreats. Clean and comfortable. Breezy bedrooms. It is superbly situated for sorties: vineyards; castleated villages; river romance and restaurants. You will need a vehicle but all is accessible. The local boulangerie is a delight and the epicerie provides for necessities. We stayed a week but would happily return for a month.

Everything at Azille maison was clean, comfortable and welcoming. The village itself was lively and unspoilt. All transactions with the owners were efficient and cordial. We had a thoroughly delightful three weeks in the house and would warmly recommend it to any prospective visitors.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is normally Saturday.
New guests can arrive/access the house from 3pm (sometimes earlier by arrangement).

Notes on prices:
The base prices quoted are for 2 people staying for one week. For more than 2 people staying there is an additional charge of 70 Euros, $100 (Australian) or equivalent per person per week. Maximum capacity 6 people.
A refundable damage deposit is also required.
Minimum booking period normally 1 week (7 nts). Discount offered for stays of 2 weeks or more.
Payment is normally accepted in either Euros or Australian Dollars via direct bank transfer, or in any currency converted into Australian Dollars via PayPal. Please note that for PayPal payments we add the additional fees charged to us by PayPal.
