About the Owner

We are Liz and Mick and moved from Surrey to Kingsbridge in 2003. The area was always special to us and when we decided to retire, it was the obvious choice. We purchased a lovely Georgian house in the town, and ran a successful B & B business for a number of years. Both our children and families followed us down to the area and we now spend time with them and our 4 grandchildren when we can. When not playing golf at Bigbury Golf Club we enjoy our lovely, peaceful, garden and the spectacular views over Kingsbridge.

Excellent high quality accommodation

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in many self-catering properties over the years and can say that with out doubt this was the best one that we have stayed at. The apartment is furnished to a very high standard and all the equipment such as crockery and cutlery were plentiful and of excellent quality. A reflection of the attention to detail was how all of the coat hangers were new large wooden and plentiful rather than the usual badly bent cheap wire/plastic that are available.

The hosts Liz and Mick are an absolute treat and do everything to make your stay comfortable, enjoyable and relaxing.

Looking forward to our return visit next year.

Perfect for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

The property was well planned out and clean. The location was great, just 10 minutes into the town, a little uphill climb on the way back but very pleasant. Would definitely recommend it.

Fantastic property, great location, couldn't ask for more

  • 5 of 5

From the start Mick & Liz made us feel very welcome with advice on the location, leaflets and information packs in the property, and their friendly nature.

The property itself is fantastic, beautifully decorated and layed out, with handy outside area to relax too. Great location into town, only a ten minute walk if that. The town is lovely, loads of restaurants and helpful bits like banks, post office etc.

The large gravel drive of the property makes it really easy to come and go and unload the car.

We spent a week at Kingsbridge as it was perfect location to use as a base and visit around. Only 35 minutes to Bigbury, 45 to Plymouth, 20 to Bantham.

Overall we had a great stay in a lovely place. Definitely going to book again we when are back down in Devon. Thank you again Mick & Liz for making our break exactly what was needed!

Fabulous

  • 5 of 5

Impressive apartment with very comfy king size bed. Immaculate throughout. Fantastic underfloor heating. Very warm greeting from Liz and Mick. Kitchen is well equipped with everything you could need. Good off road parking. Short walk into town with good choice of places to eat. Would highly recommend Cafe Asia (not your usual run of the mill Chinese). The Crabshell Inn is also lovely with good choice of seafood and great pizza. Look forward to returning soon.

"Home from Home" holiday

Woodpeckers had everything we needed to ensure a "home from home" holiday. A modern, clean apartment. Extremely comfortable bed, lovely shower. Liz and Mike made us feel very welcome. We would definitely recommend a stay at Woodpeckers!

Look no further, Woodpeckers has it all!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I were lucky enough to spend the entire month of December at Woodpeckers and from the moment we arrived we were both made to feel so very welcome from hosts Liz and Mick who ensured every detail was taken care of throughout our entire stay.

The immaculately clean and comfortable apartment caters for your every need with a quality shower, underfloor heating and a spacious relaxing lounge area where the included WiFi greatly assists you to plan your next day of exploring the idyllic South Hams scenery.

The apartment location really works as it’s situated within a short leisurely stroll of the Kingsbridge town centre where the locals are friendly and welcoming, the restaurants and pubs that surround the area (especially the Dodbrooke Inn) offer great wholesome meals at affordable prices.

For my wife and I, this truly was home away from home and with Liz and Mick going the ‘extra mile’ it ensured that this was a winter holiday that we both will never forget.

Highly recommended, 5 stars!

Owner's Response: Hi Luke and Melissa, Thank you for your lovely review. Mick and I were delighted to hear you had so much enjoyed your Winter holiday at "Woodpeckers". It was an absolute pleasure for us to have you and baby Molly staying in our apartment. Sorry we couldn't do anything about the awful wet weather! We would love to see you again on your next visit to the U.K. Best Wishes Liz and Mick

Location

From the Owner

Having spent 8 years running the B&B we thought a move to a modern Eco property would be more appropriate to our advancing years. So 2 years ago we purchased 10 Fosse Road, demolished the existing bungalow and embarked on building "Woodpeckers". Were we mad at our age? Yes, is probably the right answer! However, now the building is finished we can appreciate all the benefits of modern technology. We always wanted to stay in Kingsbridge and this property is in a quiet area has wonderful views and is in close proximity to the town, shops and restaurants.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

There are many great beaches within 30mins driving time including Bigbury with Burgh Island just off shore and walkable at low tide. Try a pint at the Pilchard Inn. Blackpool Sands is popular but there is a charge. Some local beaches offer free parking to National Trust members and a favourite is South Milton only a 15 minute drive from Kingsbridge. Salcombe also has lovely beaches.

Travel:

If you want to see the area a car is not essential but recommended. However, a double decker bus ride to Totnes or Dartmouth from the town offers extensive views not available from a car. Exeter Airport is 1 hour from Kingsbridge and the nearest train station is Totnes (from London Paddington).

Distances:

A favourite day out is a visit to Salcombe for it's shopping and spectacular scenery. It's about 6 miles and 15 mins in a car and can also be reached by ferry via Kingsbridge Estuary. Other places of interest include the historic town of Dartmouth with it's naval heritage(15miles). Totnes is 12 miles away and has much to offer including Dartington Cider Press. Dartmoor is 15 miles away.

Further Details:

Kingsbridge has a good selection of local independent shops and all the usual banking facilities. There are two main Supermarkets, Morrisons and Tesco.

The Tourist Information Centre is located on the quay and we can supply details of local restaurants and pubs. Whatever the taste, Kingsbridge has it !.
