Beautiful villa, 3 bedrooms, large pool, original features, stunning garden, A/c

Overview

Property

Updated: 26-Nov-2016
La Lucciola, Villa near Citta della Pieve, Umbria, Italy - Bedrooms:3; Sleeps 6; Bathrooms: 2

Situated on the crest of a hill, La Lucciola is named for its location in the valley of the fireflies. Approached by a private road, the house is a wonderful place to escape the noise and bustle of everyday life. The villa enjoys breathtaking 360 degree views, with the ancient Etruscan towns of Chiusi and Montepulciano visible in the distance. The garden is well established and maintained, full of colourful borders, fruit trees, lush green lawns, a pond and olive groves, and is dotted with benches from which to soak in the views. The fifteen by six metre salt-chlorinated swimming pool is beautifully lit in the evening and is shallow with wide steps, ideal for children (‘though not suitable for diving). The pool is also fenced. The swimming season stretches from early May to the beginning of October. The house has three bedrooms and is extremely comfortable and in immaculate condition, having been lovingly inhabited and beautifully decorated with an artist’s touch. With sumptuous beds and bed linen, antique furniture, ceiling fans throughout, air conditioning in two of the bedrooms and many original paintings, every provision has been made for a luxurious holiday. It is also ideal for families, with a high-chair, cot and lots of toys provided. GROUND FLOOR: cosy living room (with a wood burning stove for the cooler months), fully equipped kitchen and dining area with spectacular views from a half-moon window, a double bedroom with wheelchair access (can be made up as a twin) and bathroom with shower along the corridor, a laundry room and loggia which opens onto the garden. FIRST FLOOR: master bedroom opening onto a terrace with a magnificent view of the swimming pool, gardens and Umbrian hills beyond, then a large bedroom (can be made up as a twin) with breath-taking views from both windows and bathroom (with bath and shower). OUTSIDE: The gardens are landscaped on two levels and surround the house on all sides. The house opens onto a paved area with seating, three large umbrellas for shade, and a table under a mature wisteria pergola for outdoor eating. Beyond the patio a lawn leads onto steps down to the pool. There is an outside solar heated shower by the pool. At the far end of the pool you will find sun loungers and a shaded area. The gardens then extend into planted beds, lawns, olive groves and an orchard. The house is fully equipped with wifi, Sky TV (including sport and film channels), a washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, oven, central heating, wood burning stoves, ceiling fans throughout, air conditioning in two of the bedrooms, DVD player, CD player, and an excellent selection of novels, guide books, art books, CDs and DVDs. There are also lots of toys and games suitable for young children, a high chair and a cot. The villa also has an alarm. Information on using the wifi in the house is available on arrival. Our English housekeeper is happy to provide delicious home-cooked meals on request, ideal for adults and children alike. Whether you are a keen walker, sightseer or simply enjoy relaxing by the pool with a glass of prosecco we’re sure you will enjoy your holiday at La Lucciola. The property is available for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Christmas holiday rentals. Do note air-conditioning when required is charged at €10/night paid locally.

About the Owner

My sister and I jointly own this beautiful villa which was our late mother's home. I work in the media and live in London with my wife and 3 young children. My sister is a GP living and working in the Cotswolds with her husband and 2 children.

Guestbook comments from the manager

La Lucciola is a beautiful, evidently much-loved house in a blissfully quiet spot. It is comfortable, spacious and charming. Everything works! We enjoyed sitting by the pool as the sun set, drink in hand, watching the swallows dip and dive across the pool. We spent a happy and relaxing week at La Lucciola, and look forward to our return visit.

beautiful secluded holiday retreat

  • 5 of 5

This property provided quality, comfort, privacy and relaxation exactly as it says " on the tin" and better. The pool provided welcome relief in our heatwave stay and the beautiful grounds provided plenty of shade opportunities for those with fairer skin. Linda, the housekeeper and invaluable asset, was available when required to provide advice on local supermarkets, restaurants and towns to visit which were delightful and gave the opportunity of experiencing local food, wine and culture. Not speaking any Italian we were concerned how we would manage but the Italian people were perfect hosts - we're ready to book our return next year.

Lovely Villa with beautiful garden

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the villa with two young boys and my parents. It was a lovely place with beautiful gardens and pool - we enjoyed our time there very much. Linda the housekeeper was very helpful too.

Perfect for families with small children

  • 5 of 5

A truly lovely home that is beautifully looked after, with the most gloriously heaven-scented gardens and olive groves you can imagine. We have two small children and had the most wonderful, relaxing holiday as there was everything we needed already there. As well as the amazing grounds and pool, there are toys and books, DVDs and games. Linda the housekeeper is so helpful, and cooked us dinner for arrival on our first night, and got in all the crucial basic bits we needed like milk and pasta, cheese and wine (!) and gave us local info for the best places to shop and eat. Travelling with small children is stressful but reaching this beautiful home in the hills was just what we needed. The bedrooms are beautiful too, with lovely bedlinen. You can tell this is a much loved home, and it is such a find. We feel lucky to have found it and we'll certainly be back!

Fantastic

  • 5 of 5

Just what you always hope to find but seldom do - a family home which they happen to rent out rather than just a rental home, and it shows in all the lovely touches. Beautifully furnished and generously equipped (lots of books, DVDs, CDs, and games, quality crockery etc) and an immaculately kept English-style garden which even in late July was full of colour and greenery. Great location, too, for exploring not just Tuscany and Umbria, but also Rome 90 minutes away. A real find.

Homely and welcoming - everything you could want

  • 5 of 5

Our week's stay at La Lucciola was the most blissful Umbrian holiday we could have hoped for. The villa encapsulated everything we imagined: homely, charming, stylish, superbly situated and kitted out with everything we needed.

The enormous pool was crystal clear, cleaned twice during our stay (although it barely needed it) and the housekeeper, Linda, was on hand with hardly a moment's notice if we needed anything.

The owners were prompt and thorough with replies to our questions and the deposit was dealt with professionally before and after our stay. We shall certainly be booking La Lucciola again and can't rate it more highly.

Lovely house; beautiful garden; stunning views.

  • 5 of 5

La Lucciola is a beautiful, comfortable place in a marvellous location. The views from the house and garden (and from the pool!) seem to get better every day.

We felt at home, as soon as we arrived, and the house is well-equipped, so it's the perfect place to relax.

The location is a nicely balanced mixture of being away from it all, but close enough to main road and rail links (NB having a car is essential to get to and from the house) to make visiting any of the beautiful towns of Umbria and Tuscany straightforward.

The 4 of us can't imagine not returning to La Lucciola at some point in the not too distant future.

Highly recommended.

Location

From the Owner

My mother was an artist and the house and gardens owe much to her creativity. We all spent a number of memorable family holidays here. The swimming pool is perfect for kids and we love the climate and food.
