With a king-size, double and twin bedrooms, the house is ideal for families or couples alike, and the many attractions of the local area ensure that there really is something for everyone! There are beautiful views of the harbour and the hillside from the sun lounge, terrace and rear bedrooms, and the south-facing terrace is a real sun-trap. Night storage heaters and supplementary heaters ensure the house is cosy all year round, allowing you to enjoy lovely Mevagissey out of season. In addition to a comfortable sitting room, there is a south-facing sun lounge from which to enjoy the sea and rural views, whatever the weather. The kitchen is very well-equipped and recently refitted, whilst for those who prefer not to cook, the village offers an impressive choice of excellent restaurants. We love cooking, so there is everything you could wish for, from a smoothie maker to a wok, good quality sharp knives, and a range of cook books to provide inspiration. The pine table provides comfortable dining for up to 6 people, and the crockery, etc is equipped for 10-12 to ensure that you don’t always have to be washing up! A radio, ipod dock and CD player (along with a range of CDs) is provided for background music. A traditional 14th century Cornish fishing village, Mevagissey provides an attractive, quaint setting for the perfect relaxing holiday. The traditional working harbour means that fishing is still central to the village, and visitors can enjoy the benefits, whether this is eating the freshly caught fish in local restaurants (labelled by the boat which netted it), enjoying the mackerel fishing trips running from the harbour daily, or simply whiling away the hours watching the boats bringing in their catch. Mevagissey Museum, situated on the East Quay, displays the history of the pilchard industry, and the lighthouse was the first in England to be powered by electricity. Mevagissey's unspoilt appearance of narrow cobbled streets and colour-washed houses retains all its character: craft workshops sit side by side with shops, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and pubs which were once the haunts of Cornish smugglers, whilst the fish cellars of the past have been converted into the shops and restaurants of today, retaining their old world charm. There is no shortage of excellent places to eat.

Nearest Airport : Newquay at 20 Miles

Travel:

Newquay is the nearest airport, 20 miles away. The cottage is easily accessed by train to St Austell - from the South-East the Paddington service to Penzance stops at St Austell (4 hours); from the North, most major stations are accessible, with changes at Exeter, Bristol or Birmingham.

There is a good local bus service between St Austell and Mevagissey. Whilst a car is useful for exploring the wider area, it is by no means essential.

Distances:

St Austell, 6m away, has supermarkets and a cinema. The whole of Cornwall can be explored from Mevagissey: Eden Project (9m); Lost Gardens of Heligan (2m); Truro with a beautiful cathedral, shopping, galleries and the county's theatre (14m); and the National Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle in Falmouth (25m) are within easy reach, as are surfing beaches of the North Coast. Padstow is 25m away. Fowey, in the summer accessed by ferry from Meva, has fine restaurants and the Du Maurier festival.

The south coast of Cornwall is the more sheltered of the two coasts, and Mevagissey is on the edge of the Roseland Peninsula, a delightful, unspoilt part of South Cornwall with unrivalled coastal scenery, much of it protected by the National Trust. From majestic cliffs and headlands, secluded coves and sandy beaches to quiet creeks and fishing villages, the varied coastline can be both awe-inspiring and tranquil. The Roseland is noted for pretty villages, such as St Mawes with its spectacular views over the Fal estuary, St Just-in-Roseland, where the tiny church by the creek has one of the most beautiful settings in Britain, and Veryan, with its quaint round houses. Here the countryside is softer and more wooded than elsewhere in Cornwall and is a paradise for the nature lover.

It is said that you are never more than 17 miles from the coast in Cornwall, and our cottage offers superb views of the sea and Mevagissey harbour. Locally renowned beaches include Caerhays, Gorran Haven and Pentewan, and there are many stunning coastal walks, south towards Portmellon and Gorran Haven or north-east towards Carlyon Bay and Charlestown. The warming effects of the Gulf Stream encouraged Victorian plant hunters to establish semi-tropical gardens here, many of these now open to the public: Heligan, Caerhayes, Trebah and Trelissick all contain amazing horticultural displays. Across the county is the more rugged North Coast – home to surfers at places like Watergate Bay, Newquay, Rock and Perranporth. Further west lies Britain's most southerly point on the Lizard Peninsula, and on to Penzance and the wild world of those last few miles to Lands End – Porthcurno and Sennen Cove.

World-class restaurants are within easy reach: Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant and Michelin-starred Paul Ainsworth at No 6 in Padstow, the two Michelin-starred Restaurant Nathan Outlaw at Rock and Jamie Oliver's 15 in Watergate Bay are all within 30 miles.

A 25% deposit is payable on booking, with full payment 6 weeks before your holiday starts. We ask for a security deposit of £100, as a cheque dated for the start of your holiday; this is not cashed unless in the event of damage or loss.

Changeover Day:
Changeover day is Saturday, although this is flexible out of season. Arrival is after 4pm and departure by 10am.

Notes on prices:
Payment in UK sterling only. 25% deposit on booking; refundable £100 security deposit required with payment (cheque only cashed if required). Balance due 6 weeks before holiday starts.

Low season short breaks: 2 nights - 50%, 3 nights - 60%, 4 nights - 70%, 5 nights - 80%, 6 nights - 90% of weekly cost.

Payment is in sterling, by cheque or bank transfer.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.

  • Notes on accommodation: The spacious rear master bedroom has a king-sized pine bed and complementary bedroom furniture; the pocket sprung mattress ensures a good night’s sleep and waking up to the sea and harbour views is a real joy! A hair dryer and long mirror are provided for your use in both bedrooms on this floor. The front bedroom has a double bed, with pocket sprung mattress and pine wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside tables. The two windows make this a particularly light and airy room with rooftop views over the village and surrounding countryside. The shower room is fully tiled, with an electric shower and heated towel rail. Second floor: Our favourite room, this quaint attic bedroom has characteristic sloping ceilings and wood panelling which originated from the local Methodist Chapel. The ruined walls of the chapel can be seen from the window in this twin bedded room, which also has lovely sea and harbour views. Outside: The south-facing terrace has attractive views across the hillside and views of the harbour and open sea across the rooftops. Patio furniture provides a lovely spot for soaking up the views, relaxing and al-fresco dining with a relaxing glass of wine at the end of the day. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All bed linen is provided; guests are asked to provide their own towels. The property is cleaned weekly or at changeover; guests staying for two weeks are offered a mid-holiday linen change or a discounted rate. Other: The sun lounge is south-facing, with inviting wicker furniture from which to enjoy the sea and rural views whatever the weather.
