Apartment In Sunny Beatenberg

Overview

Property

Updated: 25-Oct-2016
Apartment in Beatenberg, Interlaken, Bernese Oberland, Switzerland - Peaceful Location With Immediate Access To An Extensive Area For Walking

Chalet Schopfli is the ground floor apartment of a two storey building in the peaceful village of Beatenberg, about 14 kms above Interlaken in the famous Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. It is situated on an individual plot with its own secluded, south-facing garden. Because it stands high above a quiet road any disturbance from traffic is minimal. There is nothing to obstruct the magnificent view of the three major Bernese peaks; the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The town of Interlaken, the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the lake of Thun are clearly visible through the trees. This is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the the sun, solitude and pure mountain air, and yes that really was our breakfast on the terrace...

Stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful 9 days on the ground floor of this chalet. The owners couldn't have been more helpful, right from the moment we made enquiries to the end of our stay. Incidentally Jill and Jane do not live on the site but were quick to respond to any questions we had. The views were out of this world and we spent hours just gazing at the Alps, mountains and lake. We went for several walks in the area and also further afield. Having a car is a big help although there are Postal Buses. Beatenberg is an ideal location. The photos, layout and description were accurate. Thank you jane for making our holiday so special!

A lovely chalet with stunning views

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the chalet for 6 nights. The chalet is located in the lovely village of Beatenberg and has stunning views of the mountains and lake below. The chalet has everything you could possible need for a comfortable holiday including wi fi. The owners Jill and Jane were so helpful. There are several lovely bars and restaurants in the village and we had an amazing meal in Hotel Gloria. There is free bus travel to Interlaken once you've purchased your tourist tax and we loved using the bus. We experienced both sun and snow during our stay which was lovely. Only downside us there is a steep slope from the road to the chalet which was difficult for us an older couple and as my husband has mobility problems. That said I would highly recommend it!!

Centrally situated chalet for all activities

  • 5 of 5

Chalet Schoepfli is the ground floor apartment of a traditional style Swiss chalet at the end of the village of Beatenberg part way up the Neiderhorn. It is very well equipped with 2 good sized bedrooms, a comfortable living area and a small but perfectly adequate kitchen. It is very quiet during the night, and being light sleepers, we found the external shutters very useful to block the early morning light. It is light and airy with plenty of windows and doors to throw open and let the mountain air in! The views from the chalet are absolutely stunning, and we never tired of just sitting and looking across the valley at the snow-covered mountains. Even when the weather was bad it still had a peculiar charm, it was different but equally attractive in all it’s moods! Location-wise it is perfectly situated – 20 mins from the town of Interlaken and the motorway, and fairly central in Switzerland which makes it an excellent base for exploring further afield if you have exhausted all the many attractions the local area has to offer. Countryside, mountains, lakes, towns and villages, there is something here to suit everyone, from long hikes to lazing on the terrace. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it for anyone visiting Switzerland. Thank you so much Jill and Jane!!

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely ground floor chalet was just perfect for our family of four. The view was outstanding and made waking up an absolute joy every morning. The chalet was very comfortable and had all that was needed for a peaceful week. We all loved Beatenberg with its beautiful walks and easy access to Interlaken. Will definitely book this chalet again!

A chalet for all seasons

  • 5 of 5

Since visiting the chalet for the first time in 2009 we have returned regularly every year since and have now got to know the chalet, the village and the region at all seasons of the year. The chalet is well equipped, warm and cosy in the winter and open and airy in the summer. The location is spectactular and as regulars we have not tired of the of the views down to the lake and across to the mountains beyond, views that can be enjoyed from within the house and from the terrace. Beatenberg has a distinct and welcoming charm with easy access by car or public transport to Interlaken, the Bernese Oberland and beyond. We have used the chalet as a base for trips on the Glacier and Bernina Expresses and more locally to Luzerne and Berne taking full advantage of the opportunities offered by the Swiss Card. The area offers something for everyone - ski slopes, mountain walks, paragliding, boat trips on the lakes, scenic picnic spots and in our case some different birding experiences including getting up close and personal with red kites from the new suspension bridge near Thun. Even after so many visits there is always something new to do and somewhere new to visit. We cannot imagine anyone feeling disappointed after a stay at the chalet.

Location

From the Owner

Our name, Aebi is from the Bernese Oberland. Indeed there is an engineer in the village with the same name (no relation) It's a fantastic area with stunning views and so much to do you can't get bored. It's quiet and you can really get away from it all, it's a real Swiss village not one that is purpose built.

Activity and Interests

Travel:

The two airports Basel and Zürich are about a 2 hour drive. Geneva airport is 2.5 to 3 hours away. There is a good train service from all airports to Interlaken West where a Post Bus offers transport directly up to Beatenberg stopping very near to the chalet.

Car hire is available from all airports though easiest from Zurich and Basel. There is a parking space off the road for the chalet.

Distances:

Beatenberg is the longest ribbon village in Europe. The chalet is towards one end of the village and the walk to the shops is about 10-15 minutes walk. The mountain gondola taking you up to the Niederhorn is about a 15 minute walk.

Further Details:

There are a variety of restaurants serving a range of Swiss and European food. The village has three small food shops, a bank, post office, a sports shop, health food shop/pharmacy and a tourist office.

The town of Interlaken, which is a 20 minute drive (or a bus journey) has a complete range of shops including large supermarkets.

Paragliding lessons on slopes above chalet. Trotti Biking (large kick scooter) hire with a 12Km mountain run down to village. Ice Rink, 120Km Summer hiking Trails from chalet, alpine forests, pastures with magnificent panoramic views of Bernese Oberland Eiger/Jungfrau region, Sailing and boating on Lake Thun. Indoor swimming pool. Herbal guided walks, cheese making. Regular Folklore/traditional dance/yodelling/alp-horn/flag.

Facilities

From the Owner

It's great to be able to just walk out the door and go for a walk directly into the mountains. You never know what you may come across: a farmer selling honey/eggs; a restaurant with rabbits; a fabulous place to enjoy a beer with views of the Eiger. I could go on...
