About the property

Cottage in Gwbert, Ceredigion, Cardigan, Wales - Right on the Wales Coastal Path with walks to beaches, restaurants and golf

Golygfa Deg, or "Fair View" in Welsh, is a well-equipped 3-bedroom holiday cottage with stunning sea views. Situated in the village of Gwbert, just 5 minutes drive from the market town of Cardigan, the cottage is within easy reach of numerous beaches, family attractions and historic sites. It is also walking distance from two popular restaurants and an 18-hole golf course, while regular bottle-nosed dolphin and seal-spotting boat trips leave from the pontoon at the edge of the village. The property features a large south and west-facing patio deck, complete with sofas and chairs for guests to enjoy the stunning sea and estuary views, spacious accommodation, a well-equipped kitchen, a secure rear garden and a self-contained 'games room' with a full-sized table tennis table, dart board, Nintendo Wii console, DVD player and selection of board games. Wifi internet access is available and pets are welcomed.

About Antony Jones

We live in Wales and work in Cardiff but have been coming down to West Wales at holiday time for many years - staying regularly in the nearby Patch Caravan Site.

We try to stay at Golygfa Deg, with our three children and golden retriever Jessie, as often as we can because we love spending family time together in such a beautiful part of the world. Its where we can really relax!!!

We hope you like our pages...

Antony Jones purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Antony Jones chose Ceredigion

We love this area for lots of reasons - there are numerous local beaches which are just fantastic with beautiful clear water and great surfing too. We love the variety of wildlife too and have rarely stayed here without seeing the famous bottle nose dolphins from on the beach at Mwnt or while we are walking our dog around the coastal path.

For us Gwbert is only a short drive away but when we are there it feels like a real get away from our hectic day to day lives at work and school. It is a magical place for us with so many fond holiday memories....

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottage is so convenient for the beaches and the local town of Cardigan. Plus the nearby golf course, the coastal path, boat club and two great eateries are within walking distance of the front door.

The best bit is the ability to sit on the patio deck at the end of a fun-filled day on the beach with a cold glass of wine and watch the sun set into Cardigan Bay - just bliss!

Special interest holidays:

Gwbert is the perfect destination for walking holidays - several ideas for route options are provided on our website [www.golygfadeg.co.uk]

Coast/Beach:

The Wales Coast Path runs alongside the cottage and a 10 minute walk brings you to a small sandy cove, just past the Cliff Hotel, where you can enjoy a dip or a beach barbecue.

Another beach that we recommend for swimming is Mwnt, which is less than 10 minutes by car and offers parking at the top of the beach in a National Trust car park.

Travel:

Cardigan is less than two hours by car from Cardiff, which has the nearest international airport (a local airport at Withybush is 40 minutes away). The Fishguard car ferry with links to Ireland is around 30 minutes drive while the nearest mainline train station at Carmarthen is about 40 minutes drive. We would say that the use of a car is essential to get the most from your stay at Golygfa Deg.

Distances:

Cardigan town - 3 miles

Mwnt beach - 3.5 miles

Newport (Pembs) - 15miles

New Quay - 20 miles

Aberaeron - 25 miles

Narberth (Oakwood Park, Folly Farm) - 30 miles

Further Details:

Cardigan town is less than five minutes drive away, providing access to a choice of cafes, restaurants and shops. Tesco and Aldi have supermarkets on the Gwbert-side of town and most high street banks also have branches here. Outdoor enthusiasts should seek out Cardigan Sports, bike hire and repairs are available at New Image Cycles and the Indoor Market has a range of interesting shops too.

Did not want to leave!!

  • 4 of 5

The property was in a perfect location with fantastic beaches, ideal for the grand kids and ourselves. The walks in and around were great as was the local pub and hotel. The cottage itself was amazing, looking out over the bay watching the beautiful sunsets, yes we had the weather, it was like watching a movie with all the bird life, horses running along the beach geese coming in to rest at sunset, sail and fishing boats going out early morning. The cottage also had swallow nests so we could watch them from the kitchen. The cottage was well equipped and had games and information to keep you occupied even when the weather could not. A totally relaxing place in a beautiful part of Wales, would love to go back again,we all felt very much at home.

Great bungalow with stunning sea view

  • 4 of 5

Well equipped bungalow with ever changing stunning sea views and sunsets.

The 2nd bathroom and the games room (we mainly used the table tennis table ) are a great plus !

Easy and efficient communication with the owners of the property.

2 Restaurants within walking distance ( went to the Flat Rock 2 times )

The Ferry Inn at St Dogmaels is also recommended.

Lots of things to do and visit.

Apart from the ones already mentioned in the reviews, Skomer Island ( a good 1 hour drive ) was one of our favourites.

( We visited before the start of the school holidays in the UK there were already lots of visitors. Leave early as there is a limit on the number of visitors/day )

Great Holiday.

Fantastic sea view

  • 4 of 5

Well equipped property with fantastic sea views. Good sized back garden and lovely deck at front to watch the sunsets at night. Plenty of games and activities in the house to keep adults and children busy - we did jigsaws and played board games and table tennis. Good base to visit all the lovely Beaches in the area. Would love to go back

Wonderful property, splendid views, been before. Just as good as three years ago. Don't tell our friends! We may not be able to it again, it's happened to us at other places we have found to be special

Owner's Response: Thank you John. for your positive review and I'm glad that the stay lived up to your expectations. I think perhaps the 1-Star may have been awarded in error? Anyway, we hope to welcome you again in another few years!

Fabulous views, ideal position for walks with the dog.

  • 4 of 5

Initial observations poor; leaking cistern in small bathroom, floor flooded. In main bathroom central heating radiator full of air, cistern leaking and overflowing into bowl causing condensation throughout the bathroom, building inside temperature almost at freezing. ( Outside 3 degrees ) However after many hours of heating and positioning of bowls situation restored to normality. Although weather not too great, cottage in great position to enjoy many dog walks, visits around the local area.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your 4-star review and for alerting us to the leaking toilet. Following our conversation (after your stay) the toilet was fully repaired within 24 hours - the plumber also tested the heating on the same visit and found that the cottage warmed up within 20 minutes. I am glad that you enjoyed your break despite the weather (it is not always warm and sunny in West Wales sadly).
