About the Owner

We decided to move out of London to the beautiful Kent countryside in 2013 and we are so delighted to have made the move. Our children are loving all the fresh air and the trips to the beach.

A lovely place to stay central to National Trust gardens

  • 4 of 5

The Coach House at Hawkshurst was lovely, the beds we found extremely comfortable. The smaller bedroom had 3 single beds which inevitably limited storage space. The main bedroom was huge with everything you needed for your stay. The bathroom and ensuite were modern and spacious. The kitchenette was small; suitable for preparing breakfast. We did find a lack of cutlery but the owner has since addressed this.

The house was secluded with a courtyard to enjoy the sun and a meal. An added plus were the delicious gluten free cakes left as a welcome treat by the owner.

Location

From the Owner

We moved to Kent from London in 2013 - and like all converts want to share with others. We live next door and look forward to telling you about the places we've discovered . Our favourites are Bedgebury for cycling, Camber Sands for beach cricket and the fantastic steam train from Tenterden to Bodium Castle.

We call it Rural -Lite! All the benefits of rural life - peace, country walks, and fresh air but with the convenience of great pubs, easy to reach supermarkets and the chi chi towns of Rye, Tunbridge Wells and Tenterden close by. It's a lovely area - around an hour from London but so different.

The High Weald is reknown for its gardens including Sissinghurst, Pashley Manor, Bedgebury Pinetum, and National Trust houses and castles including Bodium, Scotney. Its at the edge of 1066 country with Battle Abbey and Hastings close by. And we are blessed with many steam trains - Tumbridge Wells, Tenterden and Romney

The countryside is beautiful - full of walks and rural life. The seaside is half an hour away with the beaches of Camber Sands and Winchelsea.

For sporting activities there is Bedgebury for cycling, Bewl Water for sailing and many fishing lakes.

We have many gastro pubs around, as well as the Michelin starred eating in Cranbrook and Bodium. Farm shops and cafes are all across the countryside offering a welcome cake stop.

Cranbrook, Rye, Tunbridge Wells and Tenterden are all lovely places to while away a day browsing through the shops.

1066 country is 20 minutes away with Battle Abbey

Slightly further afield is Canterbury ( 1 hour), Brighton (70 mins) and London is just over an hour by train
