About the Owner

Some very good friends invited us to stay with them in their cottage in Reydon back in 2005. We fell in love with the area and visited as often as possible. We dreamt of having our own place here. When my mum sadly died two years ago we were able to use her legacy to realise our dream. The cottage is named after her. We've enjoyed renovating it, adding our stamp and making it as cosy and homely as possible. It gives us the perfect chance to do what we love best: walking, cycling, sitting by log fires in lovely pubs or settling in for the evening playing board games in front of our woodburner with friends and family. We hope you enjoy coming here as much as we do.

Second visit even better

  • 5 of 5

After our wonderful weekend in March, we was all looking forward to a second visit during the. October half term. We was't disappointed. As soon as you open the front door you feel at home. Bridget's Cottage is more like staying at a friend's home than a holiday rental. It certainly suits our needs. A comfortable quiet base, a very short walk into Southwold. Our grandchildren raced exitedly to "their" bedroom while the adults lit the cosy wood burner. The weather couldn't have been better, who would have believed that during the last weekend of October we would paddle in the sea and picnic on the beach. We hope to return again very soon.

Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in this beautiful cottage in lovely Southwold . So cosy and comfortable. Well equipped comfy beds and dog friendly too. We did lots of walking always ending up in one of the many dog friendly pubs. Southwold has lots of dog friendly restaurants and pubs. The local shop is a bonus too. Thank you Judy for letting us stay in your lovely cottage. Hope we can book for next year?

The cottage provided everything we might need and was clean and welcoming. The instructions were clear and the cottage was cosy and very near to Southwold where there is lots to do.It was a bit like the Tardis in that inside was bigger than we thought! We would certainly recommend this place.

Fantastic property. It was decorated beautifully. It was very clean and we didn't want for anything. Everything we could ever need to make our break enjoyable was to hand. We even borrowed the crabbing lines - no we didn't catch anything. We enjoyed exploring the Suffolk and fell in love with Southwold,Thorpeness and Aldeburgh. Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home. I would highly recommend staying here.

Nearest Airport : Stansted at 135 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Randolph Hotel at 0.6 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Felixstowe at 62 Kilometres Nearest Golf : Southwold Golf Club at 1.2 Kilometres Nearest Train : Darsham at 14 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : A12 at 1 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Randolph Hotel at 0.6 Kilometres Nearest Beach : Southwold North Beach at 1.2 Kilometres

Coast/Beach:

Around 10-15 minutes walk to North Beach and Southwold's traditional pier via a variety of routes including a scenic footpath over the marshes along side Buss Creek. The promenade, with its picturesque beach huts and cafes, stretches all the way to Southwold's sand dunes. Beyond the dunes is the working harbour where you can buy fresh fish from one of the fish huts or go crabbing. There are boat trips along the coast and a little ferry across to Walberswick.

Travel:

Southwold is 10 minutes off the A12. If coming by rail the nearest station is Darsham, a 15 minutes taxi ride. There is a regular train service to Darsham via Ipswich from London Liverpool Street. Alternatively, you can come to Halesworth, where there is a bus service to Southwold.

Distances:

Norwich is just under an hour away. Aldeburgh and Snape Maltings Concert Hall 35 minutes drive. Orford 45 minutes drive. Walberswick 5 miles by road, 3 miles walk/cycle over the footbridge at Southwold Harbour. Given the variety of footpaths you can easily get to a lots of lovely coastal and rural locations on foot or by bike.

Further Details:

As already mentioned there is an excellent village shop opposite the cottage where you can buy everything you need from butcher's meat to wine and woolly hats! In the unlikely event that Barbrookes hasn't got something you need, there are 2 supermarkets in town and many independent shops, not to mention the cafes, pubs, delis and restaurants if you don't feel like cooking! There is also a traditional fish and chip shop and an Indian take away.

Apart from walking, cycling, swimming in the sea and exploring the stunning coastline, there are many other things to do in Southwold and the local area. There are tennis courts in Southwold and the recreation ground in Reydon (with childrens play equipment and exercise bikes). A little further afield, there is the Lido outdoor pool in Beccles, an indoor pool (with flume) in Bungay and Afica Live at Kessingland. You can also visit places of historical interest such as Sutton Hoo and Framlingham Castle.

Music lovers can enjoy live music at times during the summer on South Green, folk music in the Harbour Inn or the Latitude Festival (in July).

There is also an excellent Summer Theatre in Southwold.

Facilities

From the Owner

We love the fact that we can pop to the shop when we need things without having to plan in advance or can send our son when we're cooking and find we're short of something vital. We love eating al-fresco in our secluded and sunny garden. Even though you can't see the sea you know it's not far when you spot the top of the lighthouse from the front bedroom.
