About No 1 Sandra Lloyd No 2 Julie Rainford

We visited Puglia for the first time in 2005 and fell in love with Ostuni and it's wonderful, friendly people. We bought Casa

Solarolo in 2006 - it had been empty for 25 years. It was owned by 11 brothers and sisters who had lived in the house as children. We met them all at the signing of the purchase and we promised them we would care for their previous family home. We set about restoring it using fantastic local builders and it was completed in 2008. We took their advice and used local materials and we felt it was right to support local craftsmen and suppliers. To offer others the opportunity to experience this amazing City and Region we now offer Casa Solarolo for holiday rental. Our guests tell us that it is a delightful house in a perfect location.

Notes:
The space provided by the two outdoor terraces offers a wonderful opportunity for al-fesco dining. In addition to the indoor dining area on the lower level of the house there is a dining facility for four people on the lower terrace below a covered area to protect guests from the mid-day sun. La Fuma sunbeds and deck chairs are provided for the comfort of guests. The top terrace, with spectacular views across the historical city rooftops, is a wonderful place to sit on warm barmy evenings. with a cold glass of prosecco. The outdoor shower, located on the lower terrace, offers a refreshing relief from the mid day heat in the summer months. Although the terraces are surrounded by railings the terrace height from ground floor level makes the property unsuitable for young children.

Great village house, convenient to everything in Ostuni and surrounding villages.

  • 4 of 5

This village house is very clean, cute, and in a great location. The outdoor spaces are excellent for both dining and suntanning. The master bedroom was very peaceful and quiet with fresh, clean white linens.

It is very easy to keep a car in the parking lot nearby for daytime excursions to the beach and surrounding villages. Walking to everything in Ostuni is possible within 5-10 minutes.

Meeting the property manager was very convenient and access was prompt.

I highly recommend this village house as a base for a vacation in Puglia.

Wonderful first impression of the white city...

  • 4 of 5

The location of this apartment is brilliant - right off Piazza Liberte, an easy walk to coffe, gelato, pizza and neighborhood restaurants . Highly recommend Osteria del Tempo Perso, amazing meal and one of the prettiest places ever. Also Piazzetta Cattedrale and Coffee and More - Ostuni was the best food we had in Puglia. The apartment was immaculate and charming with outdoor seating and shower . Beds and linens comfy cozy. Know that in Ostuni everything is vertical so be prepared for stairs stairs stairs but my sister and I ( 60’s) had no trouble and loved our frequent walks around town and the ramparts . Be aware that groceries are a 20 minute walk if you haven’t rented a car. Make use of the lovely Franco, the house manager, who collected us at the train and brought us to the airport for a very fair price. Owner, Sandra, was very responsive and helpful throughout the process. All in all a very possitive experience .

Owner's Response: Thank you for your helpful review. It sounds like you made the most of your stay in this beautiful City. We are glad you visited some of the many wonderful restaurants where the most delicious and authentic Italian food is served. Just a note to readers. The local, individual shops, just a couple of minutes away sell high quality fresh food and basic essentials. We hope to welcome you back in the future.

A lovely, well maintained town house close to everything

  • 4 of 5

It was very hot, which made a nice change, and by the end of the week my knees knew I had climbed all those steps.

Owner's Response: What lovely weather you had - I hope you made use of the outdoor shower on the lower terrace to cool you down in the mid-day sun. Yes there are steps throughout the labyrinth of streets which take you to the top of this beautiful and interesting City built on a hill but what a view when you get to the top with plenty of places to sit with glass of something cold. We hope to welcome you back in the future.

Ostuni's answer to a Luxury stay!

  • 5 of 5

As soon as you arrive you are greeted by a wonderful Italian gentleman named Franco...who makes sure you are settled and you have everything you need. We arrived in January and he made sure the house was toasty warm for us on our arrival.

As you step into this beautiful property you have an overwhelming sense that the property has been renovated and is maintained to a very high standard. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge area is tastefully done. The bedrooms are immaculate with pristine white bedding and the most scrumptious pillows, guaranteeing a good nights sleep! The location of this property is just steps away from the Piazza della Liberta, a beautiful Cathedral, restaurants and all you need ...the people are so kind and helpful. Once you've travelled to Puglia, it's inevitable you will return!

Sandra, Thank you so much for providing us with a wonderful house to stay, to enable us to explore this wonderful region of Italy!

Many thanks,

Lisa & Paul

Beautiful property in a beautiful city.

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely place to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

The house is absolutely lovely and has been renovated to the highest possible standard with everything you could possibly want to ensure a perfect holiday. The location in the town is ideal with the historic centre right on the doorstep as indeed are the many excellent restaurants.

We decided to do without a car and found the buses and train services ideal for exploring. Lecce is well worth a visit too.

We were looked after very well by Franco who is a delightful person.

All in all, a truly great holiday in a part of Italy we had not visited before. Ostuni would also be an ideal place to enjoy an extended weekend break.

Highly recommended!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review following your stay at Casa Solarolo. It is helpful to other guests to let them know that you found public transport an easy way to explore this beautiful area. We always encourage our visitors to make the trip to Lecce which, as you say, is well worth a visit. We hope to welcome you back to Ostuni sometime in the future.

Immersed in Italian way of life

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful and thoughtfully renovated home - and it is a home, not some impersonal holiday let. Everything you would need and more besides for your stay there. Really felt as though I was staying at a 'friend's'. Very good position in the town and Ostuni a good base for exploring further afield. What could be nicer than waking up to a church bell chiming with views over the medieval roof tops to the White Cuty!

This area is famous for its peaceful, untouched natural wild life, fifty million olive trees, idiosyncratic architecture and lush distinctive cuisine culminating in a fairly exotic part of Italy. Ostuni is well placed to offer the traveller access to the famous UNESCO world heritage sites of Puglia - the medieval Castel-del-Monte (Bari), Alberobello set in the beautiful Itria Valley, where many of the trulli, curious coned structures, are located. To the north, Polignano a Mare is a stunning coastal town and Lecce to the south, nicknamed the Florence of the south, has a distinctive and fascinating sandstone Baroque centre. The area is flanked by water and by white rock interspersed with pale sandy beaches and enjoys the Mediterranean climate of the Mezzogiorno, the south of Italy.

There are some lovely local beaches easily accessible from the City.

The restaurants, food and bars are of the highest quality and incredibly stylish.

Puglia remains one of Italy's best kept secrets.
