The house has air conditioning, which makes it cool in summer, with central heating ensuring it is warm and cosy in winter. It is ideally located close to Ostuni's Piazza Della Liberta and within strolling distance of bars and restaurants and the historical centre with its 15th Century Cathedral.

About No 1 Sandra Lloyd No 2 Julie Rainford

We visited Puglia for the first time in 2005 and fell in love with Ostuni and it's wonderful, friendly people. We bought Casa

Solarolo in 2006 - it had been empty for 25 years. It was owned by 11 brothers and sisters who had lived in the house as children. We met them all at the signing of the purchase and we promised them we would care for their previous family home. We set about restoring it using fantastic local builders and it was completed in 2008. We took their advice and used local materials and we felt it was right to support local craftsmen and suppliers. To offer others the opportunity to experience this amazing City and Region we now offer Casa Solarolo for holiday rental. Our guests tell us that it is a delightful house in a perfect location.

Ostuni's answer to a Luxury stay!

As soon as you arrive you are greeted by a wonderful Italian gentleman named Franco...who makes sure you are settled and you have everything you need. We arrived in January and he made sure the house was toasty warm for us on our arrival.

As you step into this beautiful property you have an overwhelming sense that the property has been renovated and is maintained to a very high standard. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge area is tastefully done. The bedrooms are immaculate with pristine white bedding and the most scrumptious pillows, guaranteeing a good nights sleep! The location of this property is just steps away from the Piazza della Liberta, a beautiful Cathedral, restaurants and all you need ...the people are so kind and helpful. Once you've travelled to Puglia, it's inevitable you will return!

Sandra, Thank you so much for providing us with a wonderful house to stay, to enable us to explore this wonderful region of Italy!

Many thanks,

Lisa & Paul

Beautiful property in a beautiful city.

What a lovely place to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

The house is absolutely lovely and has been renovated to the highest possible standard with everything you could possibly want to ensure a perfect holiday. The location in the town is ideal with the historic centre right on the doorstep as indeed are the many excellent restaurants.

We decided to do without a car and found the buses and train services ideal for exploring. Lecce is well worth a visit too.

We were looked after very well by Franco who is a delightful person.

All in all, a truly great holiday in a part of Italy we had not visited before. Ostuni would also be an ideal place to enjoy an extended weekend break.

Highly recommended!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review following your stay at Casa Solarolo. It is helpful to other guests to let them know that you found public transport an easy way to explore this beautiful area. We always encourage our visitors to make the trip to Lecce which, as you say, is well worth a visit. We hope to welcome you back to Ostuni sometime in the future.

Immersed in Italian way of life

Beautiful and thoughtfully renovated home - and it is a home, not some impersonal holiday let. Everything you would need and more besides for your stay there. Really felt as though I was staying at a 'friend's'. Very good position in the town and Ostuni a good base for exploring further afield. What could be nicer than waking up to a church bell chiming with views over the medieval roof tops to the White Cuty!

Our favourite place in the world!

  • 5 of 5

This house is perfect; beautifully designed inside and out and equipped with everything you need to feel right at home. Loads of books to read and every utensil you can think of in the kitchen. We always sleep so well here, the beds are really comfty and the air con works well. The sun terrace has fab views and you're a stones throw away from the main piazza and easy walking distance of all the good restaurants. We used Franco for the airport transfers who is very nice and the owners are more than helpful and have made a lot of effort to make the house really welcoming for their guests. Can't wait to return

Great house in a great place

  • 4 of 5

We had a fantastic stay here in September. The house is only a stone's throw from all the attractions and the main square. We ate out a couple of times, but mainly cooked at the house and ate dinner up on the roof terrace, just like the surrounding Italian families, and we felt very much part of the place as a result. There's a great fishmonger not too far away. The kitchen is well equipped for self catering. It was surprising hot - 36C - for September for the first few days and even 29c at night and the air-con in siting and bedroom was essential. We found plenty in Ostuni to amuse us for the week and didn't venture beyond the city; we hope to return to the area for longer sometime to explore further. The house was very clean, and the house manager Franco very helpful (as was the UK based owner), and we used his airport transfer service which meant we didn't have to find the house on arrival.

A word of caution, there are steps everywhere in Ostuni, including in the house where there are quite big steps up to the first floor and roof terrace; I didn't think this a problem but my knees were aching by the end of the week. Don't let that put you off though, it was lovely and we wished we had booked a fortnight.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your visit to Ostuni complemented by your stay in Casa Solarolo. There are steps all over this medieval City as part of the labyrinth of streets leading to the summit.......but what an incredible view when you get to the top with plenty of places to sit with a glass of something cold. As with all houses in the old part of the City there are steps but Casa Solarolo has a wonderful vista from the roof terraces and despite how much Italian food and wine we consume when we visit, we always return home feeling fitter!! We hope to welcome you back sometime in the future.

Perfect location to explore this beautiful city!

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful town house is a stones throw from the main square - Piazza della Libertà - and provides the perfect location to explore this incredible city.

Our love affair with Ostuni began as we first approached the white walls of the historic city from the foot of the hill, set against the bright blue skies and surrounding greenery. A truly fascinating part of the world that photographs simply cannot do justice.

The owners had arranged for Franco (the property manager) to collect us from the airport - at half the price of the local taxi companies. It made the start of our holiday feel all the more special, and what a charming man he was!

The property itself is stunning, from the marble floors and quirky stairs to the fabulous terraced roof where we spent the majority of our evenings enjoying a local wine (or two) as the sun set over the rooftops.

The information guide provided by the owners was great, with a map detailing recommended restaurants and bars, as well as tips from previous guests who had kindly shared Ostuni's hidden gems, of which there are plenty.

The kitchen was perfect - complete with a collection of Italian cookbooks which even contained some handy tips from the owners about where to buy the best local ingredients, which we did!

All of the shops, bars are restaurants are within a short stroll of the house, which is located on a quiet side street. After the sun had set, we began each night at the foot of Via Cattedrale and followed the winding paths of the historic city until we reached a new place, which didn't take long. One minute we were sat on a beanbag at the side a lantern lit street with a devilishly strong cocktail mixing it with the beautiful Italian locals, then we were in an underground cave with a €4 pizza and a jug of the local €6 wine.

I couldn't recommend Ostuni and especially Casa Solarolo highly enough. We will definitely be visiting again.

This area is famous for its peaceful, untouched natural wild life, fifty million olive trees, idiosyncratic architecture and lush distinctive cuisine culminating in a fairly exotic part of Italy. Ostuni is well placed to offer the traveller access to the famous UNESCO world heritage sites of Puglia - the medieval Castel-del-Monte (Bari), Alberobello set in the beautiful Itria Valley, where many of the trulli, curious coned structures, are located. To the north, Polignano a Mare is a stunning coastal town and Lecce to the south, nicknamed the Florence of the south, has a distinctive and fascinating sandstone Baroque centre. The area is flanked by water and by white rock interspersed with pale sandy beaches and enjoys the Mediterranean climate of the Mezzogiorno, the south of Italy.

There are some lovely local beaches easily accessible from the City.

The restaurants, food and bars are of the highest quality and incredibly stylish.

Puglia remains one of Italy's best kept secrets.

  • The space provided by the two outdoor terraces offers a wonderful opportunity for al-fesco dining. In addition to the indoor dining area on the lower level of the house there is a dining facility for four people on the lower terrace below a covered area to protect guests from the mid-day sun. La Fuma sunbeds and deck chairs are provided for the comfort of guests. The top terrace, with spectacular views across the historical city rooftops, is a wonderful place to sit on warm barmy evenings. with a cold glass of prosecco. The outdoor shower, located on the lower terrace, offers a refreshing relief from the mid day heat in the summer months. Although the terraces are surrounded by railings the terrace height from ground floor level makes the property unsuitable for young children.
