About the property

Cottage in Blakeney, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England - Peaceful Location

A charming unusual shape single story cottage in the beautiful part of the Forest of Dean in the hamlet of Pitching Green on the outskirts of Blakeney village. This cosy cottage is situated in the grounds of the owners home. It was a former carpenters workshop which we have converted to a very high standard with exposed stone work and oak beams.

Step through the French doors to a light and airy lounge/dining room with table and chairs, wood burning stove, sofa bed for 2 extra guest, 32" flat screen TV/DVD player, there are books, games, puzzles, dvd's , local attractions info. The unusual shape kitchen is fully equipped with Oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/ freezer, iron and ironing board, rotary washing line with pegs and all the utensil you would need for your stay including coffee, tea and sugar. It has tiled underfloor heating and has beautiful views of the island garden and brook, there is a stable door with steps leading down to a small terrace seating area with table and chairs for 4 guest and gas BBQ. Off of the kitchen there is a shower room with quadrant shower, wash hand basin, wc and heated towel rail. From the lounge is the large double bedroom with shabby chic painted furniture, wrought iron king size bed with luxurious bed linen, hair dryer, complimentary cole and Lewis hair and shower gel. There is a small step up leading into a quirky shape en-suite bathroom with painted exposed stone work. It has a bath with overhead power shower, wash hand basin, wc and tiled underfloor heating. The cottage has a eclectic mix of old and new furnishings and some handcrafted wooden lamps made by the owner. The flooring in the lounge and the bedroom is solid wood with nice cosy rugs.

We have a secure lock up for bikes and an outside hose for cleaning bikes and muddy boots, there is Off road parking for 2 cars. The local shop, post office, pub/restaurant, fish n chip shop and Italian restaurant are within walking distant from the cottage, with lots of other interesting attractions nearby.

On your arrival you will find a welcome basket with our own free range eggs from the girls, loaf of fresh bread, local butter, milk , bottle of local cider, herbal teas and fresh coffee for the cafeteria, to get you started. During the winter period and chilly evenings your first basket of logs and kindling is provided, there is a charge of £3.00 thereafter.

About Diana Read

Owners Steve and Diana live in the opposite cottage with son Harry and there 2 springer spaniels Millie and Charlie, as well as the chickens and ducks. They are always on hand for local information and any other requirements.

Diana Read purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Diana Read chose Forest of Dean district

We moved to the forest to have a slower relaxing pace of life. Once we walked round the island garden and stood by the old railway tunnel, we new this was the property we wanted to live in and renovate the old stone workshop into a holiday let for other people to come and enjoy.

What makes this cottage unique

Workshop cottage is on the edge of the forest which makes it a perfect base for exploring all the local attractions and visiting the surrounding area. DiaOwners

Wonderful countryside retreat in the Forest of Dean

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here in Workshop Cottage. It has been so charmingly decorated and furnished and is so comfortable. My huaband, 10 month old and I were provided with everything we needed for a perfect stay, including a cot and high chair. The welcome hamper including delicious eggs from their chickens was such a nice touch. Diana and Stephen were so nice and welcoming . We really did feel like it was a perfect relaxing and homely retreat. I also should mention that the bed was so comfortable and the cottage was spotlessly clean. We only stayed two nights after attending a wedding celebration nearby but wished we could have stayed longer! We hope to return. If you are looking for a lovely restful stay in the Forest of Dean I thoroughly recommend it! And as for local recommendations- the local pub The Cock does great food and we enjoyed a walk round mallards pike lake. Didn't have much time for anything else due to attending a wedding, but hope to return to explore some more!

Absolutely beautiful cottage, huge garden. Owners are lovely. Loved the welcome hamper. Booked here to celebrate our daughters 2nd birthday and it was just perfect. Thanks to the pack in the cottage we rented bikes and went for a beautiful ride round the forest family trail. Highly recommended. We will be returning:)

Little Gem- perfect for our family of 4.

  • 5 of 5

We booked a last minute break during the Easter holidays 2017. On arrival we were met by the owner Diana and She was so welcoming and just lovely. We were provided with a welcome basket including wine, and fresh eggs from the family hens. The cottage is beautifully presented, clean and well equipped. My children loved the garden, trampoline, swings and paddling in the brook. This meant we could relax in the gazebo and watch them play. Overall a wonderful few days. We will definitely be back!

Lovingly restored and extended cottage in quiet location.

  • 5 of 5

Very welcoming owners with hamper of bread, milk, eggs and wine on arrival.

Cottage is on opposite side of road to their own property, set on a garden "island", brook encircles grassed area.

Cottage is lovely, has everything you could want, is spotlessly clean and well placed for many walks direct from door or a short drive away.

All in all we had a perfect short break, would not hesitate to recommend property or area.

Thank you.
