Cottage in Blakeney, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England - Peaceful Location

A charming unusual shape single story cottage in the beautiful part of the Forest of Dean in the hamlet of Pitching Green on the outskirts of Blakeney village. This cosy cottage is situated in the grounds of the owners home. It was a former carpenters workshop which we have converted to a very high standard with exposed stone work and oak beams.

Step through the French doors to a light and airy lounge/dining room with table and chairs, wood burning stove, sofa bed for 2 extra guest, 32" flat screen TV/DVD player, there are books, games, puzzles, dvd's , local attractions info. The unusual shape kitchen is fully equipped with Oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/ freezer, iron and ironing board, rotary washing line with pegs and all the utensil you would need for your stay including coffee, tea and sugar. It has tiled underfloor heating and has beautiful views of the island garden and brook, there is a stable door with steps leading down to a small terrace seating area with table and chairs for 4 guest and gas BBQ. Off of the kitchen there is a shower room with quadrant shower, wash hand basin, wc and heated towel rail. From the lounge is the large double bedroom with shabby chic painted furniture, wrought iron king size bed with luxurious bed linen, hair dryer, complimentary cole and Lewis hair and shower gel. There is a small step up leading into a quirky shape en-suite bathroom with painted exposed stone work. It has a bath with overhead power shower, wash hand basin, wc and tiled underfloor heating. The cottage has a eclectic mix of old and new furnishings and some handcrafted wooden lamps made by the owner. The flooring in the lounge and the bedroom is solid wood with nice cosy rugs.

We have a secure lock up for bikes and an outside hose for cleaning bikes and muddy boots, there is Off road parking for 2 cars. The local shop, post office, pub/restaurant, fish n chip shop and Italian restaurant are within walking distant from the cottage, with lots of other interesting attractions nearby.

On your arrival you will find a welcome basket with our own free range eggs from the girls, loaf of fresh bread, local butter, milk , bottle of local cider, herbal teas and fresh coffee for the cafeteria, to get you started. During the winter period and chilly evenings your first basket of logs and kindling is provided, there is a charge of £3.00 thereafter.

About Diana Read

Owners Steve and Diana live in the opposite cottage with son Harry and there 2 springer spaniels Millie and Charlie, as well as the chickens and ducks. They are always on hand for local information and any other requirements.

Diana Read purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Diana Read chose Blakeney

We moved to the forest to have a slower relaxing pace of life. Once we walked round the island garden and stood by the old railway tunnel, we new this was the property we wanted to live in and renovate the old stone workshop into a holiday let for other people to come and enjoy.

What makes this cottage unique

Workshop cottage is on the edge of the forest which makes it a perfect base for exploring all the local attractions and visiting the surrounding area. DiaOwners

Beautiful cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a two night break here and loved the cottage. Everything that you needed was in there and the extra touches of bread, milk, wine, fresh coffee and eggs were greatly appreciated. Diana and Stephen were just great and couldn't have done more for us, even offering to put us up for an extra night because of the snow. The garden is lovely and I can only imagine it's beauty in the summer listening to the brook. Our dog loved his stay too and enjoyed some treats left in the doggy tin for him. I have definitely recommended to family and friends. Great walks so close to. Thanks again for a great stay.

My Birthday weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Mine and Clare's second time here and it won't be the last! Again we had a great stay (weather on Saturday was pants...but what can you do about the great British weather!). A really lovely cottage and great grounds that it's set in... Diana and Stephen are great owners and made us feel welcome again. We will be back for sure in the Summer so we can take advantage of the outside seating, BBQ and grounds... Thanks again Mark & Clare

Lovely

  • 5 of 5

My partner, I and our two dogs loved our little weekend break in this cottage. Unfortunately we were let down by the weather but that just meant we spent more time relaxing in front of the log fire. It had everything we needed and more. The welcome basket of milk, butter, bread and cider was lovely, there were even some treats for the dogs! The gardens and views were lovely. Diane and Steve were both friendly and informative and we will definitely be back again in the summer to enjoy more of the forest and surrounding area but hopefully in the sunshine.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments we try to make the cottage home from home, yes it was a pity about the weather but if you come back in the summer or spring you will see how beautiful The Forest of Dean is and be able to enjoy the island garden with well appointed pergola with glass of wine or cup of tea while your two dogs run round the garden amusing there self’s.

Late November 2017 Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We chose this cottage for it's rural location, away from town and city life and on the Forest of Dean's doorstep. It didn't disappoint - if we weren't out woodland walking in the winter sunshine or having evening drinks in the nearby Cock Inn, we were cosied up at the cottage with logs in the fire playing board games or watching Xmas films :-) The owners, Diana and Steve, were very welcoming and super helpful - would definitely recommend a visit here!
