About this property

Former Rectory within Galloway House Estate with sea views, HOT TUB and CABIN!

Park Cottage is a carefully restored, listed former rectory within Galloway House Estate overlooking Wigtown Bay on the sheltered Dumfries and Galloway coast. Please see aerial video which is in the photo gallery. Not only can guests enjoy the beautiful main house, but also we have a new luxury "cabin" with seating for all and large patio doors opening to enjoy the sea view. Set among ancient trees with 21 private acres of parkland to enjoy, Park Cottage is a five star mix of antiques and modern luxury. With zip and link beds downstairs, most sleeping requirements can be catered for. In 1740, the Earl of Galloway chose this exceptionally sheltered bay to build his mansion and to develop a Capability Brown inspired garden. You can still make out the avenue where the rector rode his pony to the mansion house chapel. The stable is now our log store. Today our visitors can enjoy 21 private acres of this listed landscape with the sea and venerable trees to the east and open fields and the old laundry just visible to the south. Enjoy the brand new 6 person hot tub overlooking the sea and gaze up at the stars in one of the clearest night skies in the U.K. Britain's darkest skies . Over the fence and through the small field for a dip in the sea before breakfast! Little ones can head to the safe, sandy beach at Rigg Bay- an easy walk along the beautiful coastal path or take the car around to Rigg Bay car park- about 5 minutes around the corner. Then onwards to Cruggleton Castle ruin- a very rewarding walk with magnificent cliff-top views. This is a bird watchers haven with a wide variety along the coastline so bring binoculars! A detour on your homeward journey will bring you through delightful Galloway House Gardens-Park Cottage is a haven of tranquility and complete privacy to come back to after a day's adventuring or to enjoy on it's own merits.

Amazing house in a stunning location
I cannot overstate how fantastic this property is. Myself and 8 friends spent a week here over New Year and we had an incredible time. The house is beautiful inside and out, containing absolutely everything you might need. It's a short walk away from a pub, cafe and shop but also remote enough to feel completely peaceful. The hot tub is a great feature, as is the cabin and games room. The host was easily reachable and always on hand to offer recommendations for local activities which was hugely appreciated. If you're considering booking this property, don't hesitate. You won't regret it.

Annual family holiday
We have been taking our children and grandchildren on a holiday yearly for at least 17 years. Park Cottage has been one of the best. Park Cottage is a beautiful house with lots of original features. It's in a perfect location lovely walks beaches and within driving distance of some lovely villages. We visited Galloway alpaca experience for our granddaughters b'day and highly recommend this. Loranine has equipped Park Cottage with everything you'd need for a great self catering break. The hotub with amazing views and the newly finished summer house is wonderful. Lorraine is very quick to respond to any questions or requirements we had. Also recommend the Harbour Inn and the fish and chip van that parks near the community centre on a Wednesday.

Fabulous home
We all enjoyed staying in the house - so lovely and the grounds great for the children and dog. Particularly liked sitting in the cabin just looking at the view! The hot tub and fire pit were both big hits.

Just perfect!
Just back from a wonderful stay at Park Cottage. With a first class customer service, the cottage was spotless and very well equipped. We'd go as far as to say it was one of the nicest, most welcoming holiday properties we've ever stayed in! The grounds were fantastic for children, dogs and adults alike and we enjoyed late evenings in the hot tub. We saw deer in the garden in the morning. The house was just amazing and a very strong wifi connection kept us all happy on the rare occasions when needing to check "back in with the world!". We're all relaxed and was sorry to leave. We can't wait to come back. Just perfect!

I live in Scotland with my husband. We have 2 children-one a Doctor and the other an I.T. entrepreneur. We are farmers and antique dealers with a shop in Virginia, U.S.A. We love living in south-west Scotland with its gorgeous uncrowded beaches, superb scenery, and friendly locals. I am a hill walker so the coastline and hills are blissfully peaceful. My husband is a golfer and his local course of St. Medan is Scotland's most southerly and awards dramatic coastline views- the sunsets are amazing!

Why they chose this property

Although not looking to purchase a property with two other businesses already, we knew we had to buy Park Cottage as its location and potential were too tempting! With 21 private acres, a sea view and of historical significance, this listed house had great appeal. Having renovated it to a very high standard and installed bio mass heating, every comfort is offered. With its tree lined drive and sea view, Park Cottage is blissfully away from the rat race! With open fields and the old stone laundry just visible to one side and the sea on the other, guests can enjoy an truly idyllic location.

What makes this property unique

Park Cottage is a listed historic house set in a listed landscape influenced by the landscape designer Capability Brown. While retaining its original features, fixtures and some fittings where possible, the house has every comfort possible. By installing biomass heating there is never an issue with quantity of hot water or heat and underfloor heating downstairs has guests enthused after returning from a dip in the sea ! Decorated with great care and quality of furnishings has been important to us. Not only have we tried to retain the soul of the property , but also have added a "new traditional" flair. Attention to detail for my husband Robin and I has been vital- even the chain for the kitchen's refurbished Copper lanterns had to be hunted down. We are always improving the property and giving back- not just taking away- we love this house! We were able to extend the house a few years ago and added a Mark Wilkinson designer Cook's kitchen with thick granite worktops to compliment. Larger groups will appreciate the space when having fun cooking together. A large antique table and chairs have hosted many gatherings with ease. Huge Halo leather modular seating was added to easily accommodate all sizes of groups. A full wet room was added with easy walking access and we can provide a shower seat, toilet frame and transportable wheelchair. The house is very unique in that it sits in its own private grounds of 21 acres. There is no passing traffic and no traffic noise can be heard. Only the soporific sound of the sea and the birds. We have added a fire pit overlooking the sea and new for 2021 a HOT TUB to gaze at Galloways' Dark Sky . We truly try to make your holiday here in the beautiful south west of Scotland a special one and we have families returning every year for the past 20 years. They usually book it a year in advance! Wonder what the upgrade will be this year? It's a new luxury "cabin" with bespoke copper roof, deck lighting and toilet!
