The property set within the private landscaped grounds has it’s own garden and fishing boat. It also provides many facilities including a large shared outdoor heated pool, satellite television, secure parking, laundry room, and an entry com system.

The grounds have been designed to provide secluded areas for picnics and barbeques, and peaceful hideaways to allow you to enjoy the tranquility. Why Suzanne Neal chose Vouvant

I purchased the property with my two sisters in 2010, having spent many happy summers in France as children we wanted a holiday home for all the family in a quintessential French village that was easy to get too by plane or car.

We fell in love with Vouvant the second we arrived, a picturesque French village with ooldes of charm and character.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We all had a thoroughly relaxing family holiday. We had a great balance of relaxing by the pool, going out on the boat, walking to the village for a drink and meals and some lovely days out. Had a great day at the adventure park up the road and Ile de Re is definitely worth a visit. We fell in love with it as we did Vouvant. The house had everything to make it a really great holiday. We all felt sad leaving your French house but looking forward to coming back again.

Lovely accommodation, look pictures did not do it justice.

  • 5 of 5

A great place to stay for a holiday. The accommodation was lovely with beautiful grounds and fantastic pool. Vouvant is a prefect French village and the pictures of the accommodation really did not do it justice.

Peaceful surroundings

  • 4 of 5

The grounds and the pool are beautiful - well thought out and very well maintained. A caution on the property in that the bathrooms are very small and there are a couple of low beams in them. I hit my head a couple of times (I am 5'11"). The property itself was generally well maintained but it was in need of a deep clean.

Wonderful holiday spot that offers such a lot!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this holiday home for a week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The cottage is located within an old monastery which provides six hectares of well kept garden leading down to the river that winds through the village. As well as offering a boules court and ping pong (there are bats, balls and boules in the cottage) there is a wonderful little rowing boat which we used every day to explore the river. The pool is shared, but was never busy when we there, and very clean and well maintained with reclining chairs and comfortable loungers round the sides.

The village of Vouvant is actually pretty vibrant with a small selection of artisan shops of leatherwork and art of different sorts. The boulangerie is open every day and although the little mini mart shop is quite small we didn't need to travel out of Vouvant during the week, having done a big shop at the farm supermarket half an hour north of Vouvant before arrival.

We were a family of four, with two teenagers aged 17 and 15 and we all had a great time. Having said that, if we had discovered this place when the children were ten years younger it would have ticked ALOT of boxes! Thank you Suzanne.

A fantastic place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a super holiday, the property is well equipped with everything you could need. It is in the heart of the village and an ideal base to explore the local area or simply laze by the pool. we enjoyed having a separate garden that we were able to BBQ in. We would definitely love to return.

Highly recommend this beautiful home from home

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous place to stay. I completely fell in love with the house, the village and this fantastic area of France to go off and explore for days out.

This house is a beautiful French, home from home. The facilties at the house are excellent with everything you need to have a relaxing break.

The village has several nice places to eat and drink, all which made us very welcome and I will miss the daily visit to the bakery. I look forward to visiting again - soon!

Vouvant is a beautiful village in the Vendee department in the Pays de la Loire region in western France.

A small medieval village nestled between La Chataigneraie and Fontenay-le-Comte Vouvant is the South Vendee’s self-appointed member of the prettiest village in France club.

It’s truly a beautiful place, the centre of the village is dominated by the 11th Century church, the Melusine Tower and ramparts overlook a wide bend in the languorous river Mere and the charmingly narrow streets house a plethora of artists studios.

The fortified village of Vouvant nestles neatly into the rambling countryside at the north end of the Mervent-Vouvant forest.

The River Mere has been dammed just below Vouvant by a small modern structure and lower down stream at the Pierre Brune Barrage. These turns the small river into a lake and with the old ramparts it make a most attractive setting.

The narrow streets and picturesque stone houses with painted shutters and flowers growing out of the roadside and in pots make this an idyllic village to just stroll around or sit at one of the bars or cafes and just take in its splendour. For those who wish for longer walks there are well marked trails, details can be had at the Tourist office on the edge of the Ramparts.

The castle of Vouvant of which only the ramparts and the tower remain is the subject of the legend of Melusine.

The region is renowned for its coastline, from the family-oriented Les Sables d’Olonne in the north to La Rochelle in the south - one of the most attractive seaside towns in France. To the west of La Rochelle lies the Ile de Ré, a charming offshore island dotted with quaint villages and beautiful beaches. The coast is within 60 mins drive of Vouvant.

Airports at La Rochelle, Poitiers and Nantes – all approximately 1 hour (car hire available). There are good auto-route links from the ferry ports of St Malo 3.5hrs. Caen 4hrs. Cherbourg 4.5hrs and Calais 6.5hrs.

The property is located in the heart of the village with easy access to shops, bars, restaurants and a mini market. Larger shops, supermarkets and banks are a short drive away at La Chataigneraie -10min drive and Fontenay-le-Comte 15mins drive. The world famous Puy de Fou leisure / theme park is approx. 45 mins drive.
