Overview

About the property

One-bedroom cottage in Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire - 10 Minutes Walk from the Centre of Town and Railway Station

Situated on the eastern fringe of Moreton-in-Marsh, Old Wellington Court is a sympathetic conversion of a Grade 2 Listed former Coaching Inn. The former Inn together with its adjacent outbuildings has been creatively enhanced and embellished to provide seven high-calibre dwellings set around a landscaped courtyard.

No. 2 is the former gateway into the courtyard, and has been converted into a cosy single story cottage with vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework.

Old Wellington Court enjoys a superb position within easy walking distance of the town centre. It is set in the picturesque Cotswold countryside renowned for its country walks and flawless scenery.

About Jonathan Hill

We are long-term expatriates, both with military backgrounds, and have spent most of our working lives overseas. We currently live just outside Brussels in Belgium.

Jonathan Hill purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Jonathan Hill chose Cotswold district

Looking ahead to retirement, we were keen to put down some roots back in the UK. We have no real association with the area, but it is a short drive from our daughter and other family. We are happiest in a rural community and were attracted by the stunning beauty of the Cotswolds. At the moment, our visits back to the UK tend to be short and infrequent, so we decided that others should benefit from the delights of Moreton-in-Marsh and the local area when we are not 'in residence'

What makes this cottage unique

We love the convenience of Old Wellington Court. It is lovely to be able to walk into Moreton, either to the market, or for a drink or a meal in the evening. We are golfers, so the numerous good courses in the area were a definite bonus, and there is so much else to do in the general area.

Great hospitality

We stayed for two weeks in a lovely cottage in Moreton in Marsh. Everything was very convenient and after one week we got fresh towels and bed duvets. Everything we needed was in the cottage. Everything was clean. Thanks to Jonathan and Yvonne Hill!

Overall review of 2,Wellington court,Moreton in marsh.

  • 4 of 5

We found the property to be as much as one could wish for our holiday. The decor was tasteful as well as the furniture, etc. All that was needed was provided,to make it an enjoyable weeks holiday for us. Unfortunately we did find the traffic noise to be somewhat disturbing,so early early in the morning.

Absolutely beautiful home away from home !!!

  • 4 of 5

My Mum and I stayed in this glorious cottage for 2 weeks. We certainly were not disappointed. The Cottage was just how I imagined from the photos, if not better!! Such a lovely comfortable cottage to enjoy the Cotswolds. Great Location, Great area, as it was two ladies travelling alone, we felt very safe and secure within the cottage and the beautiful surrounding area.

Everything we needed/wanted was in the cottage. Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone travelling around the Cotswolds and wanting a cosy, comfortable place to stay.

good

  • 4 of 5

everything was nice and as described so thanks for that. a good location and a well presented property. would recommend to others to go there. The only thing that was not good was that the summer temperature was quite warm at night and the bed has a very warm winter duvet on which somewhat spoilt my sleep each night as it was very warm. it would be useful to have a lighter duvet option also available.

Well Furnished Cottage In A Centrally Located Cotswold Town

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our five night stay at Jonathan’s cottage. It was clean and well furnished with lots of amenities. We especially appreciated the washer/ dryer. The welcome package included a delicious chocolate cake. Two well stocked grocery stores are located in the town center which is a less than a 15 minute walk from the cottage. We had no issue finding street parking near the place.

Moreton-in-Marsh made an ideal base to visit the nearby picturesque Cotswold villages and other attractions in the area such as Blenheim Palace and Hidcote Manor Garden. Day trips to Bath, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon were easily manageable. We used the Park & Rides in these towns and avoided the hassle of finding parking in the town center. The drive to Heathrow when we departed was straight forward. We left the cottage mid-morning and were able to return our rental car, check in and have a leisurely lunch with plenty of time to spare before boarding our 3:00 flight to Chicago.

There is some street noise but it quiets down later in the evening and did not disturb our sleep.

Would return again.

Fantastic location at a fantastic property

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at this cottage, with all its amenities and comfort. We did not hire a car, so the proximity to the tiny--but super-- train station plus the bus just blocks down the road at the "turnaround" really helped. We used this wonderful Moreton-in-Marsh to travel to villages then hike many miles on the trails.

We so appreciate the timely response from our hosts to our questions, and the "goodies" that were left for our arrival. We valued the extreme cleanliness of the cottage and the change of towels and tidy-up since we stayed three weeks. Also, the organization of information and travel advice was helpful. We used the 3 day Cotswolds Explorer pass three times and now have memories of its amazing countryside.

The bed was comfortable, and yes, there is a little traffic noise, but it quiets down at a reasonable hour. (By the way, the pictures do not do this cottage justice.)

You should book this cottage now! If I could, my husband and I would have booked for months!
