Cottage in Colyton, Nr. Beer, South Devon, England - Dating from 1650, April Cottage is a beautiful Grade II listed thatched cottage.

The cottage is centrally located within Colytons narrow streets just a few minutes walk of all amenities including local shops, pubs, restaurants, takeaway, children’s playground, tram station, tennis courts etc.. and less than 3 miles from the beach. Colyton is a small town in East Devon within a 15 minutes drive from Seaton, Beer, Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Axminster. It’s a small unspoilt town, grouped around the handsome St Andrews Church, within a conservation area in the beautiful verdant Axe Valley with the River Coly flowing through its heart. It is surrounded by lovely East Devon countryside, which is recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Axe estuary is a delight for birdwatchers with 6 hides and 3½ miles of cycleways and there are lovely rural walks, great for dog walking, right from the cottage front door. Colyton Tram Station is within walking distance and is great place to board the Seaton Tramway to Seaton with its beach and esplanade. Colyton is 10 minutes from Lyme Bay which is part of the Jurassic Coast, a Natural World Heritage Site noted for its geology, dramatic cliffs and fossils. Windsurfing, golf, horse riding and National Trust properties are close by. Further afield the National Maritime Aquarium and the Eden Project make a lovely day out.

We bought the property in 2012 as a project to restore it for use as a family holiday home. We have renovated from top to bottom including re-thatching to create a wonderful character holiday cottage.

Thatched heaven!

My husband and I have just spent one week in April Cottage, a delightful thatched three bedroom property characterised by its uneven floors, 'mind your head' doorways and picturesque cottage garden. Well placed centrally for the village of Colyton but within easy travel to many of East Devon's attractions we were pleased with our choice of holiday accomodation. Whilst retaining many traditional features the cottage has every conceivable modern appliance and the thoughtful owners have included many extras including a library of books and DVD's available for guest use.

The surrounding area is a walker's paradise and as such if you are looking for plenty of fresh air and undisturbed rest this is the place to cherish it! Our only concern with providing a true picture of this hidden gem is that everyone will want to visit and we may have trouble booking it for next year!

Warm welcoming cottage !

Lovely cottage in ideal location. Everything very clean and well maintained. Paul the owner was thorough and professional from our initial enquiry to check out providing excellent information on the local area and facilities. Plenty of room for four plus dog. Local friendly butcher well worth a visit. Would recommend to all ages and would like to return in the summer so we can enjoy the garden. Thank you Paul !

Brilliant property location wise and size.

One of the best holiday cottages we have stayed in!! plenty of room for 4 adults and the 2 kids and could have fitted more in with a blow up bed. The location of the property is brilliant with everything in the village you would need. Nice pubs restaurants and shops. The tram stop is only a 10 minute walk away and is a brilliant day out to seaton. Everywhere is a short drive away and would really recommend this for all ages. We will be returning!!!!

A lovely characterful cottage

We had a lovely time at the cottage which was not only clean and comfortable but very homely. It had everything we required for an enjoyable holiday. At the back of the cottage is a lovely, secluded garden. Unfortunately, though, we didn't get an opportunity to use it due to the weather not being warm enough. The location was perfect: tucked away in a quiet street in a pretty village, yet within a few minutes' walk to shops, pubs etc. It is also ideally located for visiting the many places of interest in East Devon.

My daughter left her mobile phone at the cottage and Paul, the owner, not only contacted me within an hour or so of us leaving but went to the trouble of arranging to have it posted to us. We were most grateful - thank you Paul!

Beautiful Thatched Cottage

I have recently returned from April Cottage after a wonderful holiday with my sons family which included two boys. It is situated in a prime position in the village with shops, restaurants and village pubs, which do excellent meals. There are plenty places to visit on the coast line which are not far to travel to. There is a little tram which is a short walk from the cottage which takes you to Seaton and from there you can do the coastal walked to Beer, a wonderful place not to be missed. The cottage is very well presented with everything possible that you would require. The owners have put lots of thought into the decoration and requirements for a rental property. It was my third time there and I cannot wait to visit April Cottage again. I would recommend this wonderful thatched, cosy cottage to my friends. You will not be disappointed.
