About the property

Gite in Marigne, Savigne, Vienne, Poitou-Charentes, France - Peaceful Location 5 Minutes From The Nearest Town By Car

Julie and Chris Hempleman welcome you to Chez Folly. Chez Folly is a detached, self catering Gite in its own private grounds situated in the small hamlet of Marigne just 5 miles for the ancient town of Civray. The Gite has 4 bedrooms – three upstairs and one downstairs and so will sleep 6 people comfortably There are two bathrooms each with showers, a large kitchen with cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave it also has a dining area and a separate comfortable lounge with log burner. There is WIFI for internet connection and the area has full coverage for most UK mobile phones. Outside there is a covered terrace with table and chairs and a BBQ. The 10m x 5m unheated pool is fenced and has a motion detector for added security when young children are staying. The pool is serviced weekly. There is a large garden with fruit trees and our own vines! Parking is off road in the gated driveway. Marigne is a quiet and peaceful and Chez Folly is situated at the edge of the hamlet with fields on three sides. The garden extends to field left natural to encourage wild flora and fauna. This is ideal for space, peace and quiet or fun games with the family. Nearby is the busy little town of Civray with twice weekly markets for fresh local produce. All the normal services are available here with large supermarkets and a variety of interesting shops. There are banks and tourist information services here. Near Poitiers there is futuroscope a theme park which boasts several 3D and 4D cinemas and is a wonderful day out for kids. A bit nearer home is La Vallee des Singes an open air monkey park where there are 30 species of primates to see. If you like cycling we can put you in touch with a company who delivers bikes to your door the area has lots of cycle routes for you to enjoy.

About Julie

We have been coming to this area of France for a many years and love this part of the world. This is our third year as Gite owners and we want to create a holiday thats comfortable and to the standard we would expect ourselves. We are keen to maintain the natural environment and have provided an uncultivated area with wild flowers for you to enjoy.Chris loves going to the local market and buying fresh produce to cook with whilst I love wandering round the many brocantes ( flea/ antique markets) in search of unusual artefacts. Although the Gite is in a rural location we also know that in this modern world connectivity is important so we hope we have provided the best of both worlds. One thing we know is you won't run out of things to do whether its visiting the local monkey sanctuary or relaxing by the pool. Cycling through the local lanes amongst the sunflowers or just sitting in our lovely peaceful garden with a glass of wine with a book. The choice is yours.

Julie purchased this house in 2013

Why Julie chose Vienne

We love this area because it is so peaceful and a world away from our busy lifestyles. It also has easy access to the town of Civray only five minutes away and lots of attractions in and around the town of Poitiers including Futroscope an amazing theme park. There is also an incredible range of food on offer both in the Markets of which there are many and the local supermarché.

What makes this house unique

We chose this property because it is surrounded by fields one of those was full of sunflowers on the day we saw it! We also liked the fact that we were only 45 minutes from the airport so no long drive once we arrived. Having a pool to swim in when the temperatures rise was also important and the fact that the garden was secluded meant we could enjoy the peace around us. Every time we come we feel immediately at home and are soon sitting under the covered terrace with a glass of wine in hand not quite believing our luck.

Notes:
Outside: Outside is a lovely covered lit seating and dining area .This leads onto a patio which over looks the pool which is stunning when illuminated at night. The pool is 10 x 5 metres and is for use exclusively by our guests. There is also a barbecue on the patio area for those alfresco meals in lazy summer days.Beyond the pool is a private fenced garden looking onto to our field beyond ,which we have left it natural as we want to encourage wild flowers and birds to flourish. The field drops down to views of the village below. New for 2015 will be an additional larger lit area with beautiful views of the fields beyond. We will also have a covered games area with darts and table tennis table. Other outdoor games include badminton and boules. We have also added more sun loungers as we have listened to our guests comments. Utility Room: Towards the rear of the kitchen is an area which houses the washing machine ironing board and iron and shelves ample enough to store laundry items and cleaning materials. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: A set of towels for each person are included and are changed weekly for the duration of your stay along with bed linen. Other: Off the kitchen is a quiet desk area where you can write or paint. It is enhanced by the natural stonework and is a great place for reflection and inspiration.

The property was a nice large place with everything you would need, and tastefully done up.

  • 4 of 5

After travelling down by car in pouring rain, and rain for nearly four days, we were overjoyed to see the sun come out on the Monday. This did make us seem we were on holiday.

The stay was lovely as went to our friends wedding, the Gite had plenty of places to sit, near the pool, patio and garden, which was a nice space to chill for me.

The family all being together, which had not happened for ages, was lovely, and plenty of space for everyone to do what they wanted.

They all enjoyed the swimming pool, which was well kept up, large, and mostly warm.

The place is very quiet down the end of a road looking over fields, just a few miles to go to the supermarket.

The only problem we had was unindated with flys, our friend who live there said it has been the worst year for them, I have never known as many in all the years going to France.

If you want peace, and space, a nice place to stay as can travel to various places from there.

Chez Folly July 2016

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely gite, which is well equipped with a large fridge/freezer and a dishwasher (no washing up!), plenty of dishes & cutlery, the thick walls meant the gite remained cool, even on the hottest days, the pool is great and cleaned weekly. Local supermarkets and shops are only a 4 minute drive away and the local area offers lots of opportunities to visit typical French villages, although we spent many of our days based around the pool enjoying the peace and tranquility!

Chez Folly

  • 5 of 5

Lovely setting for this well equipped cottage with super pool. Good location close to the N10 and access to larger cities of Angouleme and Poitiers. Good amenities in the local town. Excellent communication with owners for whom nothing was too much trouble and who are rightly proud of this delightful cottage.

Details were accurate and the cottage is clean and well presented with work to upgrade and improve the decor.

Chez Folly August 2014

  • 4 of 5

The booking was very easy and straight forward with great communication from Julie and Chris.

A beautiful area and a great base for visiting many attractions. We all loved Le Valley de Singes, and a must for anyone with an interest in history is the village of Oradour-Sur-Glane about an hours drive.

The gite was well equipped and roomy and local help is at hand for any problems that may arise. The wi-fi was a god send for our teenage daughters on an evening.

The pool area is beautiful when lit on an evening. Our only slight moan is that should the weather have been hot everyday as we had expected in August there were only two sunbeds for the six of us to share so on the days when it was hot and we decided to have pool days four of us had to lay on concrete or sit on plastic chairs which was not very comfortable.

We made great use of the bbq which was an adequate size for the six of us.

The supermarket is only a 5 minute drive away in Civray and the market in Civray is worth a visit. There is also a lovely boulangerie and a small general store in the near by village of Blanzay. The Auberge du Village there is highly recommended for food and drink.

Though the gite is still needs some work, for the price Julie and Chris are presently charging and the stunning area it is in we would recommend this gite to anyone who wants to have a central base to visit many lovely towns and tourist attractions with the bonus of a pool when the weather gets too hot, and for families with young children just wanting a quiet holiday.

We had a lovely two weeks staying at Chez Folly despite the poor weather for the time of year and hope to return at some point in the future.
