About the property

Cottage in St Issey, near Padstow, Minutes Drive To 7 Beautiful Bays, Padstow And Wadebridge

The cottage is situated down a quiet country lane in the village of St Issey, between Padstow and the market town of Wadebridge. 10-15 minutes drive takes you to a choice of 7 Bays, with surfing, fishing, swimming, rock pooling, hiking, climbing and plenty more. The Eden Project is a 30 minute drive away, as well as many other local attractions. The cottage is mid-terraced and has been lovingly renovated with plenty of character features. There is a small garden, with table and chairs and a BBQ for alfresco eating. We love to cook so you will find that although the kitchen is small, it is well equipped whether you want to cook a simple meal, bake some cakes or even make some ice-cream! There are also toys, games, books and DVD's for your use as well as beach hardy Tupperware!

About Nicola Mendoza-Wilson

The property is owned by Nicky and Jock Mendoza-Wilson and enjoyed by their two young girls at various times throughout the year. We bought the property while we lived abroad as we love this part of Cornwall and we spent a year renovating it as we would want it for our holidays, not just as a business. We recently moved back to live in the UK again but have relocated to Somerset so that we can be down in Cornwall in just over 2 hours when we want to. Perfect. We love our holiday home and hope you will as well.

Nicola Mendoza-Wilson purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Nicola Mendoza-Wilson chose North Cornwall

We bought this particular cottage as we love the country side and we love the beach and this is the perfect location for both. Just near enough to enjoy the local towns but far enough away that you can enjoy peace and quiet. From previous holidays in Cornwall with children, we knew that even a short walk to the beach meant lugging so much stuff, we would often need to drive to the car park anyway - and we decided that was a actually a smart trade off to enjoy being able to get 'away from it all'!

What makes this cottage unique

Off the beaten track, easy private parking (essential in summer) and quiet even at the height of the season!

Character cottage with all the mod cons.

  • 4 of 5

Not beach weather but great for the camel trail. Did about 9 miles in all. Local pub has good food, reasonably priced. Quality family time playing Monopoly, walking, watching DVDs and enjoying the log fire. Really good weekend.

Charming cottage in a quiete location

  • 3 of 5

The cottage itself is lovely decorated and well equiped. However the cleaners forget to remove the spider webs and the kitchen was not really clean. To get the directions to the property from the owner was not easy and took some time. However at the end we get to manage it and enjoyed 5 days there.

Nice cottage, poor service!

  • 3 of 5

The property is small and cosy with great decor, where we enjoyed a lovely log fire every evening. However, it felt like someone had just upped and left, as the cupboards were FULL of the owner’s personal effects, leaving little storage for our belongings. The kitchen was extremely over stacked with countless plastic containers and crockery, the only place to store our food was a small wooden wall unit, fridge & freezer. The fridge door did not close properly, we had to lift it up and open the freezer door in order to close it, this could be problematic for older people of anyone with an arm weakness. The place was reasonably clean, although every single corner or the property housed endless spider webs, they were even on the bed in the attic room and under all the furniture, and a quick feather dusting would prevent this! The bedrooms were nice otherwise, the master bedroom had a comfortable bed and lovely window with great decor. Under the bed was rammed with 'stuff' and the bins hadn't been emptied! The attic room is very sweet (apart from all the webs), very pink and pretty, there is a rail on the outside of a cupboard for hanging clothes and a chest of drawers but the built in cupboards were completely full of kids stuff. Parking is a little tricky when the neighbours are all parked up however, there is space for 2 cars. The play barn was more of a dumping ground for hanging old carpet and 'stuff'! There is a 'heap' of toys and furniture requiring a good clean and sort out at one end of the barn. Unfortunately, you can no longer gain access to the barn as it has been rented out to an artist who arrived during our stay to clear out and prepare the barn for her use! The owner completely failed to mention this to us, the artist was quite concerned to learn that we had a key to access the barn. This didn't really surprise us, as all communication with the owner was extremely poor. Initially, our first booking was cancelled as the owner had failed to respond within the required 24 hours. After contacting the owner direct we made another booking and all seemed well. We had to contact the owner for directions to the property and ended up sitting outside the property until 19:30 having not been given the access code! When the owner eventually took our call, she was more concerned that she had had a hectic day stuck in traffic! This is a lovely, well situated cottage (no use of barn), in need of more care & professional management!
