Villa in Malves-En-Minervois, Carcassonne, Aude, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Villa | 4 Bedrooms | Sleeps 6 typical French Village Surrounded by Vineyards.

L'Occitanie is situated in the delightful village of Malves-en-Minervois which is about fifteen minutes drive from the medieval city of Carcassone. The village is surrounded by vineyards with views of the Pyrenees to the West and the Montagne Noire to the East. The village has a chateau, bar and a bustling village shop selling fresh bread and wonderful croissants. The house is surrounded by a high hedge giving it seclusion and privacy, the swimming pool faces south and is surrounded by mature plants. It is an idyllic place for holiday, either lazing round the pool or being more venturous and visiting the many places which are all within an easy car ride. The house is comfortably furnished, all bedrooms have good quality beds and all the linen is provided for your comfort. The kitchen is well equipped with all mod-cons with double doors leading out to the terrace. We have installed a new family bathroom, so the property is even more comfortable for your stay. The lounge is spacious with settees and chairs, there is TV satellite, CD, DVD bookcase full of books and boardgames. The Villa benefits also by having WiFi. The garden room has a large dining room table with a door leading out to the back garden and table and chairs under the pine tree. You should nt need it in the summer months, but all rooms have a heater. Within fifteen minutes of the house you can be in the mountain range of the Mountagne Noir, The Chateau de Lastour which are the ruins of the four so-called Cathar Castles. Discover La Grotte de Limousis, take a stroll or perhaps hire a boat on the Canal du Midi. If you want the beach Lac de la Cavayere is nearby or take a trip to Narbonne plage which is just over an hour away on the Mediterranean coast. The history of Carcassonne is retold in the novel "Labyrinth" by Kate Moss. Take time to visit the town of Carcassonne where there are three markets each week. The Saturday market is particularly lively during the summer surrounded by cafes and restaurants. With all this and the local restaurants and the Minervois wine the holiday is complete.

About the Owner

.Hi, Thank you for taking the time to read this. Well, the selfi of myself was taken last year, 201 5 on the terrace outside the kitchen. My husband Paul and myself bought the house in 2002 for our family who enjoy many hot summer days down in Malves-en-Minervois. It appealed to us as an untapped area of France, very easy to get down here and a very charming typical French village. So it "ticked" all the boxes for our Place in the Sun.

This is a great property for a couple of families to share and use as a base to explore a beautiful part of France. Good size swimming pool and is well maintained as is the whole property.

Relaxing and comfortable place to stay

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my boyfriend for four nights and we had the most relaxing stay. The accommodation was very clean, had all the amenities that we needed and more and was overall a lovely and relaxing place to stay - felt like home away from home.

For anyone that is looking to recharge the batteries, then this is a great place to stay. The area is so peaceful and the private pool, which was of a high quality, meant that we could have our own bit of peace and quiet. We also made the most of the lovely modern kitchen to cook our own meals and have a couple of nights eating meals on the well kept terrace and resting in the comfortable lounge.

While the property has plenty of bedrooms for a bigger group, it felt nice to have plenty of space.

Would definitely recommend if you are looking to escape any tourist areas and enjoy the calm of the south of France.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here for a week in July with my family of 5. Never been to France for a holiday before and we had a wonderful time. The property was lovely and had every thing we could have wanted. The swimming pool was completely private and enclosed by high level shrubs so was not overlooked from any angle. It has a secured gate to get into it , so I didn't have to worry about my 5 year old wandering in there by himself. The kids loved it. The kitchen is modern and very clean with an adjoining patio area where you can all sit to eat whilst still enjoying the sun. There is a newly fitted modern bathroom downstairs with a good power shower. All the bedrooms were clean with very comfy beds.

The house itself is in a small village which has a friendly village shop a 10 minute walk away. You will need a car to get to the supermarket (10 mins by car) and into Carcassone.

Carcassone is a must both by day and at night. We ate out there on a few occasions with many restaurants to choose from.

Jane the owner of the property was very helpful and I appreciated the complementary bottles of local wine, both of which were very good and a nice welcoming touch.

An all round great place to stay for a quiet relaxing family holiday.

A pleasant house and good base to explore

  • 4 of 5

This property is a great base to explore the Carcassonne and the surrounding area. It is only 15 - 20 minutes from the city and it's airport. It is situated in a residential area in the quiet village of Malves which has an adequate local shop for essential supplies. The house is typically french with plenty of shutters keeping it cool in warm weather. Once we got used to sitting a few yards from the quiet street we enjoyed eating outside the kitchen, but equally we could and did eat at the table in the large back garden or in the back conservatory area.

The pool area is compact, we had no problem as there were only the 2 of us, but you would be closely packed if the house was fully occupied and everyone wanted in the sun.

The house is very well situated for local attractions including Carcassonne, new town and La Cite, the Canal du Midi at Trebes, the Chateaux de Lastours and the Grottes de Limousis.

We enjoy running and there is plenty of opportunity, either just up the road for some trail running or between some of the nearby local villages.

We had a really enjoyable stay here, probably will not come back, but only because we feel there are other places we want to visit.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that our guest had a lovely holiday at our Villa. However, we feel that we must respond to a couple of their comments. We were rather taken back by the comment of our pool and "compact" area. In ten years of renting the house it has been mainly occupied by groups of a minimum of four to six and the pool area is safe, secure, private faces south and is a good size with a surrounding terrace shrubs and trees. We have only ever received comments that the pool was great and the family loved it. There is plenty of room for all, only last year when we were here there were six adults and three children in the pool area all having fun and sunbathing on the sunbeds. A minor detail, but I would also like to add that the "street" outside our house is a country road leading up from the quiet village of Malves passing a few house on to countryside.

From the Owner

We have a large grown-up family, but with the four bedrooms there is plenty of room for all. The downstairs is particularly spacious and I can not give it enough credit with the photos, I have tried many times to take a photo of the front but because it is so long and the hedge so tall, the only real way is to fly over which I have not tried doing..

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

During the summer months there are a wealth of festivals throughout the region. Opera, theatre, pop, rock everywhere the villages and the towns are celebrating. Carcassonne holds the Festival de Carcassonne from June until the end of August. There are always a selection of top international artistes performing at the festival. Also during this time there are free concerts held in the town of Carcassonne. All sports and recreations seem to be catered for. The smaller towns with Abbeys will hold musical soirees, organ recitals some are combined with dining too. I try to leave in the house up-to-date information about the area together with brochures.

Tennis in town, Water sports, Horse riding, Fishing

By motorway Narbonne Plage, Gruissan within the hour, a little longer on the main roads.

Spanish border about two hours away, Toulouse and Perpignan within an hours drive and the mountains too within an hour.

You can fly in on Ryanair to Carcassonne, Beziers and Perpignan Airport.

British Airways, EasyJet fly into Toulouse

It is quiet, private south facing swimming pool. The double French doors on to the terrace from the kitchen is lovely and we have tried to make it a very comfortable home.
