La Grange was completely renovated by us several years ago. When we saw our house, the barn and grounds for the first time, we knew it was for us. The views, setting and tranquility are simply splendid and we are delighted to say that our guests, many of whom have returned again and again over the past ten years, feel the same. You can relax by the pool and enjoy the wonderful views across the valley or stroll through our woodland and enjoy the flora and fauna, a birdwatchers paradise (Black Woodpecker, Golden Oriole, Hoopoe, Nightjar, to name but a few).

Wonderful

The house was perfect! Extremely comfortable and well equipped - plenty of space for us all.

The pool was fantastic and always clean. The grounds were wonderful and the views stunning. The children loved to explore and visit the donkeys! So many beautiful towns to visit within a short drive.

The owners were lovely, very helpful but un intrusive.

I would highly recommend this house- you won't be disappointed !

Perfect!

After falling in love with the Midi-Pyrenees region recently since visiting the Ariege and Aveyron departments, it seemed logical to have a holiday in Tarn.

La Grange is a light and airy south-facing converted barn which makes a change from some of the dark and dingy gites available.

It has most mod-cons including English TV and Wi-Fi. Although we try to immerse ourselves in the French way of life, it's nice to have the option of keeping in touch with what's going on at home.

With three bath rooms, we had one each which was most helpful when we aimed to get out early in the morning.

The weather of our two weeks was perfect. 26 to 29 degrees every day. Waking up to a breath-taking panorama of an azure blue sky, watching the mist dissipating from the bottom of the tree covered hills with a cup of tea in hand, sitting on a chair on the patio was our daily heaven.

As big natural history fans, we really loved the garden which has been managed to attract wildlife. The owners have made the most of the natural vegetation and haven't spoilt it by adding out of context ornamental features. There is a wonderful area behind the gite, of heather and small trees which forms an island, framed by the same plants mown closely. It's like walking on an Axminster! We lost count of the species of birds, butterflies, amphibians and insects we saw.

It was lovely to jump in to the pool after returning from a day out, before watching the sun set amongst the Pine trees.

With five "Plus Beaux Villages de France" just short drives away, we had some smashing days out exploring these peaceful enclaves.

The English owners are lovely and although living just a stone's throw away, you wouldn't know they were there, but are at your service should you need them.

We enjoyed our holiday here so much, we booked for next year before we left.

We were attracted to this area because of its ideal balance between the rural idyll and its accessibility to towns and cities including Albi and Toulouse with their culture, markets and transport links. Our local town of Gaillac caters for all our everyday needs with a wide choice of restaurants and supermarkets etc.

Activity and Interests

Travel:

For your route planner try viamichelin.

Allow a day's drive from your port of entry - approximately 8+ hours.

It is now possible to remain on motorways all the way from Calais (Dual carriageway around Paris).

La Grange is about 50 minutes from Toulouse Airport and approximately 90 minutes from those at Rodez and Carcassonne.

We are centrally based for visits to the Pyrénées and the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts.

Distances:

Bastide village, Castelnau de Montmiral - 5 minutes by car, boulangerie, pharmacy, 2 bar/restaurants, post office, tourist office and english speaking doctors.

Gaillac - 15 minutes drive. Market town with 2 large supermarkets, weekly market.

St Antonin Noble Val - 30 minutes drive - on the banks of the river Aveyron,

medieval town with fabulous Sunday market.

Cordes sur Ciel - 30 minutes drive. Beautiful bastide town with Saturday market.

Albi - 40 minutes drive - world heritage site.

Gaillac and the surrounding area is well known for its local wine produce. There is a vast array of vineyards to visit where you will be most welcome to try and buy. There is also a wide variety of activities such as horse riding, rambling along the GR routes, cycling, fishing, kayaking. At our Base de Loisirs (5 minutes away) you can enjoy a game of tennis or swim in the large leisure lake which has cafe facilities, a man made beach and water chute.
