Holiday Cottage In Central Coggeshall, Esssex, England

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
Cottage in Coggeshall, Nr. Braintree, Essex, England - Within Walking Distance Of All Village Amenities, Restaurants and Attractions

A spacious cottage in a converted bake house in the rear garden of the main house which houses the former bakery. Firmin's Bakehouse is in a quiet location despite being so central in the village. We are ideal for visiting friends and relatives, lovers of historic buildings, walkers along the Essex Way, and those without access to a car as we have some great local restaurants and transport links to London and Colchester. Our welcome breakfast is supplied by our local delicatessen and butcher, Buntings.

The perfect holiday retreat

  • 5 of 5

We were confident from the earlier reviews that we had made the right choice for our two night get away to Essex. The owner, Alex has gone to a lot of trouble to make her guests feel welcome, the cottage is beautifully decorated and if there is something she hasn't provided for your stay, trust me you don't need it. The breakfast left for us on the first morning was a lovely touch too

This is one of the nicest holiday cottages we have stayed in and it proved to be the perfect base for exploring the lovely Essex countryside

If we ventured that way again, we would not hesitate to stay at The Bakehouse cottage.

Highly Recommended!

  • 5 of 5

The Bakehouse was everything it promised to be on the website. Situated in charming Coggeshall, this spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated conversion was beautifully appointed and our host Alex had thought of everything. The tasty breakfast provided on our first morning was an unexpected bonus! Alex was always on hand if we needed anything and was the perfect host. Throw in Bertie the dog, Thomas the cat and Mary and Lacy Lucy the chickens and you are never short of entertainment! We would certainly visit again if in the area and highly recommend it to other prospective customers.

Owner's Response: Thank-you so much. I am delighted you enjoyed your stay. Bertie certainly enjoyed having you to throw his ball over and over too! Mary & Lacy Lucy are in trouble. They will have to lay two eggs a day for our guests to make up for the plants they dug up today.....!

Fabulous Find

  • 5 of 5

What a great little home away from home. Beautiful surroundings and a very peaceful location. The Bakehouse is lovely, bright and airy. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The decor is simple and very tasteful. The apartment is very spacious and extremely well equipped. Alex really has thought of everything. After a day out you really can return and relax here. The welcome breakfast pack was delicious and a much appreciated touch. Alex is on hand if you need anything whilst giving you total privacy at the same time. Thank you Alex for making our stay so comfortable and easy. I am looking forward to returning very soon.

Owner's Response: Thank-you so much for you review. It was a pleasure having you to stay as it has been with all of our guests so far! The chickens, Muffin and Lacy Lucy are now laying well and as my daughters are now sick of eggs for breakfast there should be enough for our guests!

Location

From the Owner

We bought the Old Bakery in Coggeshall for its village centre location and its character (1570), the main house has very few straight lines! Coggeshall provides us with a lovely place to live and to raise our children. It also gives us access to London for my husband's job and the convenience of being able to walk everywhere is just fantastic. The former Bake House in the back garden was an added bonus. We realised that Coggeshall has limited accommodation, so we decided to pick up where the last owners left off and turn it into a small holiday cottage - so far its worked!

Facilities

From the Owner

The key thing about Firmin's Bakehouse is its location. If you are looking for somewhere where you don't have to drive to the pub, you love half timbered buildings and a central village / market town location we are for you. There are a number of attractive local country walks on the boundaries of the village but if you have a car you can explore further north into Essex or Suffolk. Equally you could choose to spend the day in London (without staying in London), and catch the community bus to and from the station in the next village. For a one bedroom property it is very spacious. We have created a more secluded area of the garden for our guests to enjoy in the summer months.
