Auchterarder

The nearest town (5 minutes by car), known for having the longest high street in Scotland, hence the name “Lang Toon”. Auchterarder has a lovely village culture and provides most of your everyday needs: hospital, bank, post-office, supermarkets, restaurants / cafes and a selection of specialty boutiques and shops.

Stirling

15 miles to the south of Auchterarder, Stirling, granted city status in 2002, is famous for the Wars of Independence and home to a castle that competes with any historic building in Europe. It also pays tribute to it’s most famous war hero, William Wallace by means of the impressive Wallace Monument.

For the tourist, Stirling offers a variety of options for all the family and benefits from outstanding local scenery.

Perth

15 miles to the north, Perth is the gateway to the highlands. Perth was once the capital of Scotland and was built on the banks of Scotland’s longest river, the River Tay.

The Scone Palace is home to the Stone of Destiny on which many Scottish Kings have been crowned.

Perth has two museums and a range of artworks from the artist J.D Fergusson, which can be viewed in the Fergusson Gallery. The Perth Theatre and Perth Concert Hall also have many events throughout the year, including the annual Perth Festival of the Arts, theatre, opera, classical music and comedy events.

Perth has a number of family leisure facilities including swimming, ice-skating and Noah’s Arc children’s play centre.

St Andrews

Named after the Apostle, Saint Andrew. St Andrews is a university town located on the east coast of Scotland in Fife, 45 miles from Gleneagles. It is most famously known as the “Home of Golf”, with over 10 renowned golf courses, including the Old Course and Kingsbarns.

The medieval town is not just about golf as it has established itself as one of Scotland’s visitor attractions, inviting tourists from all corners of the world. Attractions include narrow cobbled streets and alleys, beaches, botanical gardens, boutique shops, many restaurants and an aquarium.

Many famous people have graduated from St. Andrews University, no more famous than future King, Prince William, who met and courted his future wife, Kate while studying there.

Edinburgh

Less than 1-hour drive or train to the city centre, Edinburgh is Scotland's capital and is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. It is the home to the Scottish Parliament, and features Edinburgh Caste, Arthur’s Seat; an extinct volcano, Holyrood Park, Edinburgh Zoo and in excess of 4,000 listed buildings. It hosts the Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh Festival, but has simply too many attractions to mention. This is must see destination when you visit Scotland.

Glasgow

Less than 1-hour drive or train to the city centre, Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, and 3rd largest in the UK and was the first UK city to be declared European Capital of Culture. The city centre hosts numerous cultural venues: the Theatre Royal (performing home of Scottish Opera and Scottish Ballet), the Pavilion Theatre, the King's Theatre, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow Film Theatre, Tron Theatre, Gallery of Modern Art, Mitchell Library and Theatre, the Centre for Contemporary Arts, McLellan Galleries and the Lighthouse Museum of Architecture.

Shopping lovers will enjoy Buchanan /Galleries and Argyll Street.

Glasgow is also famous for the Old Firm; Celtic and Rangers football teams; the oldest derby in the world.

Glasgow hosts wondrous attractions and activities, again a must to spend a day there when visiting Scotland.

Golfing in Paradise

Scotland is world famous for golf, with none finer than the 3 Championship Courses at Gleneagles. The Jack Nicklaus PGA Centenary Course was home to the 2014 Ryder Cup, while the James Braid designed Kings and Queens are two of the most challenging in the area. The par 3 Wee Course is a challenging course, where the pitch and putt course close to the hotel is free of charge and perfect for those keen to give golf a try. The scenery is breathtaking, which makes those most difficult rounds still a pleasure to have experienced. The golf facilities at the Dormy House are truly 5-star, offering the latest equipment as well as plenty of dining options before or after your round.

There are many other golf courses close by that are worth playing, particularly Auchterarder and Crieff.

Great 3 bedroom apartment. Very well stocked with all the essentials. Two very nice bathrooms with excellent showers. Very high standard of furnishings all of which was spotless. Loads of close parking and only a five minute walk form the Gleneagles Hotel and Golf Courses. All fixtures and fittings were brand new and everything worked perfectly. Sky Sports and Movies were even put on for us. The owners obviously take great pride in their property. Could not recommend highly enough.

Fantastic Appartment

We had a lovely stay babysitting for our two grandchildren while our son and his wife attended at wedding at Gleneagles. The Appartment was superbly equipped and catered for all our needs. It is in very easy walking distance to Gleneagles. Josephine and Alan were extremely helpful in the lead up to the visit. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and would thoroughly recommend this property, you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic week in Sunny Scotland

The property was excellent, spacious enough for 4 adults, child and dog. Only issue was the dining area which was difficult to seat us all comfortably due to the location of the dining table. Well equipped kitchen and was lovely to see so many items in the cupboards for us to use such as herbs and spices. Often when renting apartments you have to go and buy so many things, we didn't have to do that here. Bedrooms were spacious with lots of cupboard space. Quiet area, so close to gleneagles would recommend the spa day and a round on the golf course. Was slightly anxious about the cream carpet as we had our dog as well. Luckily the weather was good so no dirty paws. Overall an great location and property.

Kitchen well equipped for cooking. Beds very comfortable. Sky Tv and DVD collection a bonus.

Very well situated for days out.

Will recommend and hope to visit again if in that area again..

Best of both worlds

Just back from a 4 night stay in this lovely apartment on the Gleneagles estate.The apartment was spotlessly clean and extremely well appointed including the DVD collection and additional towels! There was ample room for our family of five and the apartment was in a great location-the children were able to safely walk on their own down to the pitch and putt which made them feel very grown up. My husband and the boys were here to play golf but you don't have to be a golfer to appreciate the location-I enjoyed walking around the estate as we had lovely weather throughout our stay. Auchterarder is a small village with a selection of nice coffee shops which are open during the day, although there not many that stay open late. There is a local co-op store which has a selection of freshly baked goods for breakfast and is a good one stop shop to stock up on essentials. We didn't spend the whole time golfing-much to the boys' disappointment!-we spent a day in St Andrews ( lovely scenic drive across to the coast) and also went to Edinburgh for the day, both of which were approx 1 hr drive away.We parked at the park and ride next to Edinburgh airport and got the tram directly into Princes Street which meant no hassle parking and at a cost of £8.50 in total was excellent value for money! The location is a good base for those wishing to explore the area in more detail, and is a great way to enjoy the Gleneagles experience on a budget! The hotel itself is very impressive and is set in beautiful surroundings-certainly worth seeing. The Deseo Restaurant (near the spa in the hotel itself) and the clubhouse are probably the most family friendly and reasonably priced.

The owner, Alan, was extremely helpful prior to our arrival and there was plenty of useful written information provided. I would highly recommend this accommodation and look forward to returning ourselves some time soon.

Excellent Location and Spotless Apartment

Great location, close to the hotel and golf courses, ideal for golfers. House was clean and well equipped. Owner had good communication during the booking process and all went very well. Apartment was very well appointed with all we needed. No hesitation in recommending this property to golfers or indeed anyone looking for accommodation at Gleneagles.
