House in Paretola, Massa Carrara, Tuscany and Florence, Italy - Very Peaceful Location. 25 Mins To The Beach And The Stunning Cinque Terre, 40 Mins From Lucca
Casa Paretola is a stunning farmhouse c 1700s nestled on the edge of a medieval hamlet with spectacular views cross the beautiful Tuscan countryside. The perfect setting for a totally relaxing holiday, and yet so close to historical centres such as Lucca, Florence and Pisa. The five cliff top fishing villages of the Cinque Terre are close by and Portofino is 50 minutes away by car. Lunigiana is a very pictureque and quite undiscovered part of Tuscany, perfect for total relaxation, hiking, cycling or touring. You will be taken back into the real Tuscan life, a very relaxed tempo of a century ago, calm and unhurried. The property has one large terrace at the front of the property, and a smaller terrace to the side of the kitchen along with a small garden to the side of the property. It is 8 minutes from Licciana Nardi (local village) and 15 minutes from local swimming pool. Swimming. Quite apart from sea-bathing this area offers many opportunities for swimming both in good public swimming pools and in safe river pools. River bathing is popular in some areas particularly around Licciana, Bagnone and Pontremoli (for example at Guinadi). There are swimming pools at Villafranca (Olympic size set in wooded grounds). There is also a smaller pool and tennis courts, a snack bar and pizzeria. Cormezzano, between Aulla and Fivizzano just past the Gassano turn has a pool with water chutes. There are also swimming pools at Lerici and Equi Terme (sulphur baths).
About the Owner
About Ben Bambrough
Having travelled and lived in Italy over many years, we fell in love with the unspoilt Lunigiana region and with this 17th century property and its wonderful panoramas of the surrounding countryside.
It offers total relaxation - and many years on we still love the absolute peace and tranquility the house offers and yet love it's positioning which is so close to historical and coastline resorts.
Why Ben Bambrough chose Massa Carrara Area
Casa Paretola offers a feeling of remoteness from the crowds which is wonderful and yet such a close drive to major historic towns such as Lucca, Pisa and Florence among many others.
Lunigiana is the 'Jewel in the crown' of Italy where the villages have not changed in centuries. There are reported to be over 100 castles amongst the sweeping green hills and mountains. The delicious menu's are regional from the many fish dishes along the coast to the meat & vegetable dishes of the countryside.
What makes this house unique
Guests staying here find that they can relax thoroughly with the peace and relaxation of the surroundings. Devoid of the hustle and bustle of 21st century living, it provides a welcome return from a 'packed day' out visiting the many historic towns and coastal resorts in the area.

Activity and Interests
Special interest holidays:
The Lunigiana wine route cuts through an extraordinary variety of landscapes looking out on the sea or up to the marble peaks of the Apuans whilst generally meandering through rolling countryside. We recommend LVNAE(LUNI) winery as a definite "must do". Situated just outside the nearby fortified town of Sarzana. Lvnae wines specialize in the local wines & famous for their vermentino whites. The winery is very interesting with museum, tastings, tours and bookable wine appreciation classes.
Also close by in the historic castello town of Pontremoli is a shop that buys and sells all local funghi (mushrooms) such as the famed Porcini. They provide expert advice on all edible varieties. This town has many interesting shops and restaurants. Day walking through the local hills and mountains is very popular here with stunning views and a wide variety of flora and forna to see. There are natural lakes, ideal for a picnic on a hot summer's day. Bike and horse riding. Natural health spa.
Lerici is the closest beach which is situated 25mins from the property.
The Cinque Terre is approximately 35 minutes drive or our recommendation to take the train (20mins drive to Aulla train station and then 10-15mins on the train to the coast, you can buy an all day hop on and off ticket)
Forte dei Marmi is 40mins away.
Portofino is 50mins drive
Pisa is 50 minutes drive
Lucca is 40mins drive
Florence is 1.5 hrs drive
Bologna is 1 hr drive
Milan is 2.5 hrs drive

Lucca is 40mins, Florence 1.5 hrs, Pisa 50mins, Cinque Terre 30mins.
Paretola is in the National Park region of Lunigiana which has around 100 castles and many lakes.
