Lovely one bedroom character cottage with a contemporary twist in the heart of this typical Cotswold village with its welcoming pubs , cafes and plentiful shops; ideal for romantic breaks with large bath and walk in shower for two; beautiful country walks and cycling; spectacular scenery in all seasons. The Cotswold and Winchcombe Way footpaths pass through the town and highlights such as Broadway, Bourton on the Water, Cirencester, Oxford and Stratford-upon -Avon are all within 5-25 miles of the cottage. The cottage is well placed for the world famous Cheltenham Race Course. Sudeley Castle which hosts a Spectacle of Light show every December and events through the year is just 10 minutes walk downhill. We are one of the few cottages to welcome your well behaved small dog.

About Jay and Carol

Carol and Jay are both country lovers and keen walkers who grew up in Worcestershire.

We have held a variety of jobs and have lived in different parts of the UK but rate the Cotswolds for its beauty and variety, while being well-placed for transport links. We embarked on our property venture after a mutual friend's funeral and contemplating life ahead. We hope to build a small business as an alternative to the cut and thrust of city life as we get older. We think there is a gap in the market for small, deluxe cottages for couples or single people wanting a "home from home" but also the added comfort of all modern amenities. We have tried to create this atmosphere in our cottage as well as providing a romantic, ideal country bolt hole.

Why Jay and Carol chose Winchcombe

This is in an area of outstanding natural beauty as well as being well-located for the key sites in the Cotswolds, as well as the Cheltenham Race Course, Prestbury Hill racing, Stratford- upon- Avon, Gloucester with its historic dockyard, mediaeval Tewkesbury and Worcester cathedral. All these places are readily accessible by bus, train and or car. Winchcombe is very popular with walkers and cyclists, being on both the Cotswold and the Winchcombe Way. All paths are well sign-posted, offering gentle and steep country walks to suit all levels of experience and the surrounding countryside offers delightful unspoilt villages and charming olde world pubs with a variety of cuisine. The town is very authentic and unspoilt and boasts at least 5 public houses, a Michelin starred restaurant within minutes of the cottage and a variety of cafes and interesting shops. It offers both country life as well as proximity to other pursuits and is a year round destination.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is in the heart of the community and it is possible to leave the car and walk to all amenities within 5 minutes. Recently refurbished, we offer superior, comfortable accommodation while keeping the integrity of the country Bolt Hole. There is a lounge with a period working fireplace, 2 comfortable sofas, TV, DVD player and free WiFi. The newly fitted deluxe bathroom has a bath big enough for two and luxurious white towels are provided as well as towelling robes and slippers (on request) for that special occasion. The dining room seats four comfortably and the patio garden with table and chairs is self-contained and private and can be accessed from the modern, well-equipped kitchen It is spacious enough for breakfasts, aperitifs and meals outside in the summer. There is a shed for cycles and plenty of room for muddy boots.

Notes on accommodation: The stairs to upstairs and to garden are very steep and are unsuitable for those with mobility issues or for small children and/or those carrying babies, including pregnant women. On street parking from 5.00 pm to 8.00 a.m. at no charge. Daytime parking in Back Lane car park (£1 per day). Car park is adjacent to library, 5 mins walk from cottage. The garden is enclosed and secure from the road. A lovely little cottage, ideally situated

Had a lovely stay at the cottage perfectly situated for pubs and restaurants and local shops. owners did everything to make our stay a good one. Cottage is clean and tidy with good facilities and nice enclosed garden for our dog.

Ideal base for walking the North hallf of the Cotswold Way

Comfy bed, nice bathroom. Kitchen a bit compact and no way to make ice, but othwerwise the cottage provided everything we needed for a week walking the Cotswold Way.

Cosy and comfortable

Penny Cottage is conveniently located for everything in Winchcombe. Parking was not a problem and the rear garden gate made access to the long stay car park very easy. The cottage is well equipped, the bed is extremely comfortable and the bathroom would do credit to a luxury boutique hotel.

Amazing long weekend in the Cotswolds

What can I say - this place is absolutely perfect: located right in the middle of Winchcombe - you have easy access to a variety of pubs, grocery stores, and shops.

The cottage is so nice and cozy. There is a beautiful backyard with a table and chairs to sit in. If the weather is cold there is a good fireplace in the living room. The bedroom and bathroom are the highlights both large and very modern. The bathroom has a separate rainfall shower and tub.

Very close to sights like Sudely Castle, Bourton-on-the-water and lots of walking you won’t get bored. Can’t recommend Penny Cottage highly enough!

Cozy cottage in the heart of Winchcombe village

The place is well located and near restaurants,cafes, stores and supermarket. You can do everything by foot. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom was large and updated. The bedroom is on the smaller size. The photos show exactly how the cottage looks like. The cottage was clean with clean towels and linen. Despite having a modern bathroom there are a few details in other areas of the cottage that could use some renovation.

Perfect Picturesque and Charming

Penny Cottage was beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. It's situated down the road from shops, a selection of country pubs and the best food at The Lion Inn. Carol was a brilliant host in making sure we were okay. The cottage itself was warm and cosy and the nights sleep in the bed was incredible as was the shower and bath! (do note the 'how-to' with regards to the water temperature). Also DO be careful of the beam in the bedroom by the window! (caught me out a couple of times despite the warnings!)

There were NO negatives to our stay here and we'd love to come back during the summer months with a dryer climate to enjoy the garden!

Booking Notes:
Full payment is required within 6 weeks of booking; There is an additional £25 extra cleaning fee per pet per week; maximum 2 small well behaved dogs who are not allowed on bed linen please. Cheltenham Race Festival , Christmas and New Year. Valentine's Night and all Bank Holiday weekends will attract a minimum night rate of not less than £85. A security deposit of £50 is charged per visit. This is fully refundable within 7 days of departure provided there is no discernible or irrevocable damage. Pet owners please note that we will decuct money if you allow dogs to soli bedding and towels.

Logs provided for the first open fire between 31st October and 31 March only.

Minimum 3 nights break; 2 night breaks considered but will attract a higher pro rata rate during high season

Please note that we do not accept payments on the day of arrival or after the accommodation has been occupied.

Also, cancellations made within 4 weeks of your arrival may not qualify for a full refund unless there are exceptional circumstances such as illness.

Changeover Day:
Friday to Friday, Friday to Monday, or Monday to Friday but can be flexible; please ask on booking.

Notes on prices:
The cottage costs from £55 per night for a minimum of 3 nights. Bank Holiday weekends, the Cheltenham and Paddy Power race weeks and Fri and Sat night only bookings between April and October will attract a higher pro rata or premium rate. Please request prices on application. Longer bookings can be as low as £50 per couple per night. Please ask on enquiry.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 30 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
