Guestbook comments from the manager

I've been on holiday here several times as the location is so wonderful! The cottage is warm, perfectly clean and very comfortable. You can spend a whole holiday just sitting on the balcony looking at the view extending for “Miles Around”. Pick a place in that view and there is a network of public footpaths that will take you there. I love walking so it is fantastic to be able to find a walk out in any direction without even getting in the car. But, if you are not into walking there is so much to do: Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Crich Tramway Museum, Caudwells Mill, a steam railway and many more attractions are all close by. Thank you Jane and Michael for providing my perfect, relaxing getaway. Can't wait to return!

The Cottage definately has the Wow Factor!

  • 5 of 5

We were completely impressed the moment we arrived. The cottage is wonderful. So clean and well decorated. The furnishings are impressive and the hosts are friendly and concerned that you are happy! We definitely were happy! The views of Matlock are brilliant and you have everything you need in the cottage. We were only disappointed that it was cloudy while we were there as we wanted to see the stars! So we will have to re-visit at some point to see them!

Sets the standard!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed in Miles around cottage before.....3 years ago....and we loved it then.... (it was summer and incredibly hot!) and we were treated extremely well by the owners then as they made sure we had everything we needed as we arrived by motorcycle.

This time we stayed in January and it was cold weatherwise (but the cottage wasn't!).

The walk down the hill to Matlock is steep......but it is being this high up that gives the fabulous views..... and it is a joy to amble down into town or to Matlock Bath for coffee etc.

We came back to this property as it was my girlfriends birthday and the owner had left a bottle of Prosecco for her...a lovely touch we felt.

As the title says ....this property has become what we set our standards by. We have been to several owners direct properties and this one is the most immaculately clean and well presented with everything we need.

To the owners.....thank you.......To the readers of this review I would say .....Go as you will love it (but please don't prevent us being able to book again!).

Adorable cottage with wonderful views...perfect!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about the cottage was perfect, it was adequately equipped, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The location was peaceful with magnificent views and the hospitality of the owner, Jane, was very friendly and caring. We would definitely recommend this cottage and are planning a return visit as we loved it so much. In fact this was one of our favourite holidays despite the changeable weather!!!

Comfy, quiet and an amazing view

  • 5 of 5

We were very impressed by the Miles Around cottage. When we first got there, we noticed the great view of Matlock immediately. We walked into the cottage and felt instantly at home, the cottage was cosy, clean and tidy and we were left some complimentary bread, milk, tea, coffee and biscuits which we thought was a nice touch.

We were soon greeted by Jane who made us feel very welcome to their residence.

Over the 3 nights we were there we had a very quiet and comfortable time, we would definately consider this cottage again for future visits to Matlock and recommend it to friends and family looking to visit the town.

peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at "Miles Around" cottage. It is in a beautiful location with stunning views all around the property and very peaceful. The cottage is very well equipped with all mod cons, all included. We enjoyed visiting Bakewell, Matlock Bath with the Heights of Abraham well worth a visit. The owners Jane and Michael are on hand if you have any problems and are very pleasant. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage

About the Area.

Once famed for its hydros and spa treatments, Matlock is now a bustling town surrounded by the spectacular countryside of the Derbyshire Dales. Overlooked by the imposing Smedleys Hydro (now the offices of Derbyshire County Council) and Riber Castle, the town owes much its status to John Smedley who built both these grand edifices, plus several more. The River Derwent and the A6 road both run through the middle of the town, which centres on Crown Square. Matlock boasts an award-winning park - Hall Leys Park, complete with boating lake, riverside paths, tennis courts and skateboard park. It is the first of five beautifully restored public parks stretching along the River Derwent to Matlock Bath. The hillsides around afford some superb viewpoints and superb countryside is literally on the doorstep. With a good range of shops and restaurants plus excellent bus and rail links (on the Derwent Valley train line from Derby) this is an ideal base for exploring the area. Peak Rail runs heritage steam and diesel trains from Matlock station and there is a superb new Leisure Centre on the edge of the town. Don't miss the magical Matlock Bath Illuminations which take place a little further along the river at weekends during September and October.
