We have had a wonderful time and our four children have really enjoyed their freedom in the garden. We enjoyed cycling on the family friendly cycle paths along the River Creuse…and horse-riding in Chaillac …We look forward to returning…

My family… and I have had a lovely time here at Les Hirondelles …Lucie and Ian have been quite simply marvellous hosts, who take a genuine pride in what they do.

Of equal delight has been the gîte and local area. We will be back for sure!

Matthew & Lynne, Southampton

Lovely place, lovely welcome, fantastic place for relaxing. We enjoyed swimming and kayaking in the lake. The kids fished and caught catfish. Great place for bike riding.

Really comprehensive information sent beforehand and given during stay. Kind and thoughtful hosts and a lovely part of France for cycling and doing nothing. House was lovely and clean with great bath and plenty of space for lots of people. Lovely garden and lots of games to keep everyone happy. Only downside is that house is full of laminated sheets giving detailed instructions on how to use toilet, cooker, the bin etc in english! and a no smoking sign in every room including the toilets! Also make sure you bring your own cafetiere if you need a decent coffee in the morning.

We are 25 minutes from Argenton-Sur Creuse railway station. A car is recommended, but we can arrange pick-ups from local airports/stations and the local supermarket does car hire at very reasonable rates.

Argenton-sur-Creuse (large town with wide range of shops & restaurants & indoor swimming pool and train station) 25 mins. The nearest hypermarket is 40 minutes drive in Chateauroux.

Further Details:

Les Hirondelles is inn the Southern part of La Brenne (above), one of France’s Natural Regional Parks. La Brenne comprises over 1,400 small lakes, made during the Middle Ages for fish-farming. Today, it is an internationally important wetland wildlife habitat, harbouring many species, including the endangered European Pond Turtle. It provides many excellent leisure opportunities including bird-watching, angling, cycling, and walking.

Close by is the stunning mediaeval town of St Benoit-du-Sault, which has won awards as one of France’s most beautiful towns

There plenty of lakeside and riverside beaches nearby (Chaillac 15 mins, Mont Cocu 30 mins, & Lac D'Eguzon with a wide range of watersports 35 mins).

There are a large number of pretty towns and villages within a one hour drive including (St Gaultier, Le Blanc, Fresselines, Gargilesse-Dampierre, Montmorrilon, Bellac, Angles Sur L'Anglin).

Just a bit further afield is the beautiful Medieval City of Chauvigny with its towers, ramparts, falconry displays and a velo rail, Poitiers (including the Futuroscope theme park) and Chenonceau Chateaux (built across the River Cher).

Cycling for all ages is popular here, there are many cycle tracks and routes and the country lanes are so peaceful family cycle trips are a real pleasure. There is plenty of room in one of our secure barns for you to store your bicycles too.

There are also plenty of walks nearby including one to the French tree of the year for 2013, an ancient, gnarled oak tree just a couple of miles from our property

There are several local markets - please see our information on arrival for the various days.

There are three horse-riding stables within 10 miles.

We have lots of leaflets and guide books available for you to browse through but if you have any specific places you'd like to visit, please ask us to help with more information.
