Rural setting in a lovely garden.

  • 5 of 5

I really liked the comfortable cottage. It was tucked up into the corner of a high garden wall. There was a lovely outside table and sitting area which I might have used had the weather been warmer. I managed to hit a few overcast and rainy days so I was grateful for the wall heater in the bed/sitting room in the evenings. The kitchen looked nice, though I didn't cook anything. The rooms were bright because of the large windows. Hand washing I did dried on the heated towel rack. Wonderful collection of books. I was concerned about the single track lane to the house but I didn't meet anyone on the road in the 5 days I was there.

Beautiful, cosy garden cottage.

  • 5 of 5

It's a really pretty, well presented little cottage, perfect for 2 people. It's small but it's all you need when exploring the area. Although it's in the garden of the main house it feels very private. It was a perfect base to explore the nearby beaches and national park. There are lots of pretty villages nearby where you can eat and drink. Collin and Ginny were welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. We would definitely stay again.

Perfect for us

  • 5 of 5

After a very warm welcome on arrival from the owners, we were delighted with the holiday cottage. The views from the garden were amazing. The cottage was very clean and well equipped. We had a fantastic week and will certainly rebook at a later date. We definitely recommend the cottage, if you're looking for a quiet relaxing base within this beautiful countryside.

Quiet, peaceful location, well equipped, but bathroom and kitchen quite small.

The bed was comfortable and there is wifi which was reliable. Phone coverage is a bit hit and miss. A pleasant week surrounded by a large variety of birds and bats in the evening. Coombe Martin has a fairly well stocked Spar shop but you need to go to Barnstaple for larger stores. We tried the Old Station House Inn which has good pub food. The Fox and Goose at Parracombe was quieter but we had a beautiful meal there. Would recommend Marwood Hill gardens and the walk along Heddon Valley. Ilfracombe, Woolacombe and Lynton & Lynmouth are all within easy reach but the cliff railway is a little expensive.

A cosy retreat away from the hustle and bustle.

A fantastic base for exploring Exmoor and North Devon,

The cottage is clean, well maintained, very comfortable and has everything you require, TV, books, DVD’s and WIFI.

Well equipped kitchen if you fancy a bit of home cooking, however we would highly recommend a visit to nearby Kentisbury Manor for a memorable dining experience.

There was a very helpful information pack listing recommended pubs, restaurants, and places to visit.

Ginny met us on arrival, she was very friendly and welcoming. She was on hand during our stay to offer advice about the area, which was much appreciated.

We highly recommend this property and look forward to returning in the near future.

Good Things Come in Small Packages

Just returned from a glorious weeks stay in Garden Cottage. From the outside, the property appears on the small side but on entry, it's a bit like a tardis and has everything you could possibly need for a romantic getaway 'a deux'. Hosts Ginny and Colin are extremely friendly and make you feel at home as soon as you arrive. The location makes it an ideal base for exploring all the North Devon attractions. Barnstaple is best for shopping with lots of independent shops along with all the usual names. Ilfracombe on a Sunday, stroll down the quayside for the best fish and chips and ice-cream to die for. Lynton and Lynmouth to ride the cliff railway. A trip to Lundy is a must (check weather forecast first as there's no shelter from sun (or rain ). Use the long stay car park, accessed through short stay car park, next to quayside £3 all day, quayside 90p every hour !!!! -( if sailing from Bideford). Appledore, Dunster, Woolacombe, all worth a visit. If you have small ones and want a white sandy beachy holiday, South Devon may be a better choice but if like us, you're past that stage and like walking, eating and generally mooching about, the North Devon coast has loads to offer and Garden Cottage is the perfect base from which to explore. Thank you Ginny and Colin. x

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

The fabulous sandy surfing beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton and Croyde are a 30 minute drive away. Nearer to home are the beaches around Combe Martin, just 10 minutes by car. The South West Coast Path passes nearby, a 5 minutes drive away with walks along the dramatic cliffs on the North Devon coast. Lynton and Lynmouth with the cliff railway are 20 minutes drive and the pretty seaside villages of Appledore and Clovelly are within easy reach.

The use of a car is essential as the area is rural and public transport is negligible. Exeter airport is 50 miles and Bristol about 100 miles from here. The property is about 30 miles from the M5 motorway and takes approximately 50 minutes.

The nearest shop is within walking distance but Combe Martin the nearest village is a 5 minute drive. Barnstaple, a historic market town with a pannier market and thriving high street is 10 miles away. Ilfracombe, with it's attractive harbour and spectacular 'Verity' a Damien Hirst sculpture, is also 10 miles away.

The property is set just within Exmoor National Park.

Further Details:

Several National Trust properties are nearby. Arlington Court has beautiful gardens, parkland, lakes and wooded hills for wandering through or striding across.
