Close enough to walk into Canterbury City centre, 300 year old Sylvan Cottage has a purpose built private extension to the rear of the property, overlooking a secure garden and fields. Families and those with limited mobility always find their needs well catered for here. There are good facilities and equipment for children of all ages. Guests always enjoy the 'inside/out' experience of the large glazed lounge, dining area and garden.

Pristine accommodations, great location, helpful host, highly recommended.

Lovely old home from the outside. Inside newly renovated in contemporary style. Lovely dining and living room combination with glass roof and sliding doors onto a garden patio. Well stocked kitchen. Wonderful amenities. Each bedroom has its own private, luxurious bath with everything you need. Accomodates children very well. We hope to visit here again. Convenient to downtown Canterbury either by car or footpath.

Very impressed!

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The rooms were all comfortably furnished and the kitchen well-equipped. The only downside was that the bedroom windows could not be left open at night when it was hot, because of the incessant noise from traffic on the nearby roads. Also, grab rails in the baths would have been helpful for our somewhat aged bodies!

Owner's Response: We are pleased you enjoyed your stay Bruce. Our ground floor access room is always praised by wheelchair guests, who find it very comfortable. We also have extra mobility aids like grab rails, which can be added to rooms - maybe you missed the the part of your rental agreement requesting information about special needs? One of downsides of living near a City is always the morning and evening rush hour traffic. Unfortunately your particular chosen bedroom is closer to road, and the weather was unusually hot. Other guests have often remarked about how peaceful (apart from the woodpeckers and pheasants) the other two bedrooms and the large living area overlooking the garden are. Thanks for staying with us. The Ideal Canterbury Country Retreat

Sylvan Cottage was the perfect getaway for our family of 5 (can accommodate 8 if required). Thank you Jacqui and Chris for a most memorable stay. We will treasure many fond memories shared at Sylvan Cottage.

My family was visiting relatives in a nearby village also very close to the heart of Canterbury. We stayed in the B&B the first night whilst waiting for the self-contained guesthouse (attached) to become available. Both were excellent!

The continental/cooked breakfast on the first morning was first class. The accommodation in the B&B is well suited to a short stay given these are private rooms within the main house.

The self-contained accommodation surpassed our expectations. There is plenty of living space, which provides much light and ventilation through large sliding doors and a conservatory overlooking a spacious back garden.

The kitchen was extremely well fitted out with dishwasher, washing machine, oven, microwave, several coffee plungers, etc.

The house has a standard size TV in the main lounge room and we had no problems accessing the wifi. Our kids enjoyed the selection of board games on offer.

We loved sitting on the outdoor patio being able to enjoy the serenity of the location and the large garden, which was well maintained. We were a short drive to the heart of Canterbury and even closer to the Kent County Cricket Ground.

The bedrooms were well appointed with lovely views of the garden. We were provided with fresh linen through regular intervals and we found the accommodation in excellent condition. The three bathrooms were very luxurious.

We would highly recommend this accommodation to couples and families with a car wanting to either explore the city of Canterbury and the many beautiful nearby villages or just wanting to take some time out to relax.

Lovely stay, great for Winters Barns

I was getting married at Winters Barns (situated round the corner) and this was the perfect place for my guests and I to stay leading up to the wedding.

Lovely place for a holiday

Sylvan Cottage is a lovely place to spend your holiday. The house is well equipped, well-maintained, has a beautifull spacious living room and a nice big garden for children to play in. Canterbury is a nice town to visit, and the beach and cliffs are nearby. Also a daytrip to London is a good option.

Perfect for a 3 generation family gathering

We were looking for somewhere to stay near Canterbury, for my husband's 60th birthday celebrations. We wanted a property large enough for ourselves and our 2 daughters and their partners, and our baby grandson. Sylvan Cottage was the perfect choice. The space was ideal, with a large family dining table in an open living area, and 3 ensuite bedrooms. The garden was lovely, and would be great in the summer.

We enjoyed the 20-25minute walk into Canterbury itself. It was an easy stroll along a tarmac cycle track across the fields. An ideal combination of the countryside feel, yet so close to the city.

The property was very clean, tidy and well maintained. The cupboards were full of family games, and everything that we could possibly have needed.

Jacqui made us feel very welcome, and was extremely helpful during the booking process, on arrival and during our stay.

I would not hesitate to recommend the property to family and friends.

Nearest coast is 10 miles - good sandy beaches at Minnis Bay, Broadstairs, St Margarets Bay, Dymchurch. Whitstable is a popular local seaside town with quirky and historic shops and houses.

Travel:

Gatwick - 60 miles, Dover channel port - 10 miles, Le Shuttle - 15 miles. Country bus service from doorstep or 10 minute walk to nearest frequent buses - 5 minute ride to City. Car use not essential. City cycle route very close to house. We can collect guests/luggage from station on request.

Distances:

25 minute walk from City centre.

Howletts Zoo - 10 mins drive, Dover Castle - 20 mins drive, Leeds Castle - 40 mins drive. 20 mins drive away from Eurostar/Shuttle/Dover port.

Short stroll to Kent County Cricket/Kent & Canterbury & Chaucer BMI hospitals/Canterbury Rugby.

Quality supermarket 10 mins walk away.

Further Details:

Canterbury has two railway stations with hi-speed trains, making the tourist attractions of London possible in less than an hour.

There is a frequent London coach service (pick-up point short distance from property). Very easy access to A2 motorway Dover/London.

A visit to the Cathedral is a 'must'.

Dover and Leeds castles are very popular visits. Day trips to France by ferry or Eurostar are easily possible

Rental includes VAT, all utilities, kitchen basics, bed linen and towels (initial supply of logs included - additional logs available at cost).
