Our one bedroom townhouse is air-conditioned, with secure parking and a private patio. The bedroom is accessed via a spiral staircase and is on the mezzanine first floor. Located in the heart of the village it has access to the many bars, the bank, the pharmacy, and yet is only a few minutes away from the stunning countryside. Our chickens provide free range eggs and you are welcome to enjoy feeding our sheep or picking vegetables from our extensive vegetable garden. The best tomatoes you have ever tasted! We provide a welcome pack including, tea, coffee, milk, butter, orange juice, freshly made bread, beer and wine and some home made Seville orange marmalade. We can also offer typical Spanish meals or even Spanish cooking lessons. For those who are interested in walking we have maps, books and hiking poles and we are happy to take guests on guided walking trips across the many senderos or old mule tracks that are not on maps.

About the Owner

Mike and Fran

Mike is from Scotland originally and I am from East Anglia. We lived for 14 years in North Wales before buying our house in Spain and moving here a few years later when our son was at University.

We enjoy the Spanish way of life, the people, the fiestas, the fabulous food, the country walks and our animals on our land. We grow all our vegetables and barter some for firewood or fresh goat's cheese. Mike plays golf in Rio Tinto and I teach English as a second language to children and adults in the village.

We love to travel and we both enjoy sports, especially football, golf, tennis and I also like yoga.

Thank you so much for a wonderful 9 days. Our holiday has been so relaxing that in one way we feel we have been here forever. Unfortunately in another, as we are leaving today, time has rocketed by. We have enjoyed everything: the walks that you suggested, and the walk with you and Penny and Dave; the food from your garden and the food in the village. Fantastic Sunday lunch(got home at 6pm!) with you at Bar Javier yesterday. Lovely tapas a few nights ago at Bar Jesus where none of us seemed to understand a single word we were saying but a lot of laughing. Lovely friendly people throughout the region. Hasta la vista.

Great apartment. Authentic non-touristy village. Wonderful host. Makes for memorable stay!

  • 5 of 5

Fran and Mike offer a pleasing, attractive townhouse that is the perfect base to explore a fascinating corner of Spain. The apartment is located at the end of a quite village street. Parking was convenient and easy to find. Inside we found a clean, comfortable living space featuring high ceilings and a nice decor. The bed was comfortable and the bath very nice with a large walk-in shower. Towels and linens were high quality. We especially liked that both the kitchen and bath were extremely well stocked with supplies. The first day "starter pack" of breakfast and other food items was another real treat. We really liked Corteconcepion as a home base to explore the region. Friendly people, nice bars and few other tourists yet centrally located with the main town of Aracena, picturesque villages, great walking and other attractions just a short drive away. What really made our stay memorable however was the hosts, Fran and Mike. They couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. Reading the guest log at the apartment we noticed that many of the past guests were repeat customers, some coming year after year. After spending a week in Corteconcepion at Fran and Mike's place it is easy to see why. Very highly recommend.

Clean, cheerful, comfortable and very well equipped

We had a very happy time here. The cottage was exactly as advertised and suited our needs very well. The owners were welcoming and helpful, amd provided us with good advice and information to help us make the most of being in an area that was completely new to us. We loved the location, the beautiful walking country and visiting many local towns and villages.

The house was perfectly placed for us a beautiful setting in a lovely Spanish village. It has everything you could possibly need with the owners on hand to help with the smallest thing. The best place we have stayed in in Spain by far

Nice and well equipped 2person house in relaxed village

  • 4 of 5

We have enjoyed our stay over there in the casa very much. We liked especially the beautiful and harmonious well maintained interior and exterior. The owners living at short distance are really nice people, always ready and helpful for you if you want to. We loved their dog Cervantes and the massive home grown tomatoes. One can make beautiful walks in the aria, maps provided, although in summertime it is too hot in the afternoon, so - get up early for that. (Our problem).

We were also looking for Andalusian culture. Sevilla is a one hour drive, well to do. We also went to beautiful Córdoba and stayed there overnight -just a little too far away for a day trip.

Our overall rating: between 4 and 5 stars (only God is perfect)

A great place to stay with fabulous hosts.

  • 5 of 5

The photos don't really do the place justice but this is a fantastic little get away where you can enjoy your holiday in privacy or spend some time with the hosts. Or a bit of both. Fran and Mike have got the balance just right and it's up to you how you do it. The weather was very hot while we were there and the rear patio is a great sun trap but the house remains cool enough not to be uncomfortable in the nights The Aracena area is "typical" rural Spain with plenty of villages and points of interest to visit. We would definitely recommend a stay here and we would definitely come again.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your stay in the Sierras and that you had the opportunity to explore the area by car and see real rural Spain. Sitting out in the garden, eating on the last night with Cervantes in her new luminous collar is a great memory and we would love to see you both again. Hasta luego!!

Ideal for a couple located in a typical Spanish country village.

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for 4 nights and the property was ideal for us. All the facilities we required were supplied. Only downside for some would be the spiral staircase up to the mezzanine bedroom but caused us no problems. Fran and Mike were great hosts and had a lovely evening with them eating tapas and drinking wine/beer in the local bars.

Location up in the sierras was great and we would have walked more around the area if the weather had been kinder. It was nice to be located in a typical Spanish country village.

From the Owner

Mike and I run our townhouse in Corteconcepcion. We are passionate about the people and the countryside here in the Sierras de Aracena. We love to share that passion with our guests and to ensure you have a true break away from your home. We understand that you work hard for your holiday and rural Spain is the ideal place to relax and chill. We came to live here in 2005 and now live the 'simple' life with sheep, chickens, olives and our huge vegetable garden all of which we are happy to share with guests. The house we rent out is close to our house and we are happy to help our guests when they are here and before they come if we can.

Special interest holidays:

There are many stunning senderos or old mule trails across the Sierras which offer easy, medium and difficult tracks. You are welcome to use our guides and maps and we are happy to also provide walking guided tours. Along the tracks there is a multitude of bird-life to enjoy including the colourful European bee-eaters, kingfishers, eagles and kites and woodpeckers. You will also see how the black pigs live in the countryside seeking out their favourite food, the acorns.

For those who enjoy Spanish food we offer cooking classes as well as dinners and breakfasts. But if you want to learn a little Spanish on your trip we are happy to give you some conversation classes. Fees for these are payable locally and are tailor made to your needs.

There are stunning beaches on the Costa de la Luz about an hour away but for those who like to swim, the local Lake is just 10 minutes away by car and is warm and safe. No motor sports are allowed and during the week it is peaceful and relaxing. At the weekend it is a busy location and the bar and restaurant at a promontory serves Spanish tapas and meals. It is possible to do some fishing here too, for carp and barbel.

The nearest airport is Seville and direct flights are from Dublin, Gatwick or Stansted and the easy drive to us takes just less than an hour on good roads with little traffic. If you are not hiring a car, there is a bus service from Seville and we are happy to pick you up from Aracena. Flights from other regional airports go to Malaga and Faro and there are enjoyable and easy drives from both. We provide detailed directions for you from airports as well as car hire companies used by our guests.

There are many places to go and enjoy in the Sierras and there are always fiestas and romerias. A cultural calendar of local events is in the house along with maps and directions. Aracena is 7k away and for those interested in Roman history, Merida is an hour's drive north and a great place to see Roman remains, especially the stunning amphitheatre. More locally there are public swimming pools, Moorish villages, terrific walks for all levels, the lake and superb freshly cooked food.

Further Details:

What makes this holiday so enjoyable is the location, the local people and the opportunity to experience and participate in the real Spain. The reviews on Trip Advisor will give you a better flavour of what to expect than all the narrative we can write here.

Your house is in a great location, well within walking distance to Bar Jesus and the local square. You will have secure parking and, besides your own sun trap of a terrace you are more than welcome to sit in our garden where you will feel you are in the middle of the countryside. The people in this village are just amazing, so warm and friendly, even if you cannot speak a word of Spanish. They will stop and chat anytime of the day and there really are no language barriers here. They welcome you to local fiestas such as San Juan, with the fire jumping, or Fiesta of the Road where you can watch or join in with the Pasa Doble or Flamenco. Great fun with real charm too. If you love to walk or birdwatch the area is ideal and for those gourmets who love great food this is definitely the be
