Harrison House Barn in Clifton, Penrith, Cumbria, England - Set In Its Own Walled Garden With Its Own Patio And Stunning Fell Views

Harrison House: - This stunning barn conversion stands in the grounds of Whitrigg House in the village of Clifton. This self-catering cottage has wonderful fell views of Blencathra and the surrounding Eastern fells. The barn has shared use of a sauna located at the end of the landscaped wall garden. It has a carport for 2 cars and secure cycle storage. Clifton is located 2 miles south of Penrith with easy access to the M6, the A66 and Penrith West Coast railway station making it an ideal base from which to explore the Northern Lake District and the Eden Valley. In the village there is a popular gastro pub and it is a few minutes drive to Lowther Castle and Gardens. Pooley Bridge and Lake Ullswater are both within a 10 minute drive.

About the Owner

Whitrigg House Bed and Breakfast and Harrison House, the holiday barn next door, are a new venture by Mike and Robbie who moved to Clifton in 2008 to enjoy all that the Lake District and Eden Valley have to offer, like walking their 2 Pointers on the fells. They live within the village and both have professional roles in the NHS. Both have travelled extensively and hope that their experiences have helped create high quality accommodation and service.

Best of both worlds, town and country, Beautiful

A beautiful property in a rural setting but close enough to Penrith for all your needs. The barn is well equipped with lovely furnishing and fixtures. Six of us (plus our dog) stayed for a week and had a lovely time exploring the Northern lakes.The barn is a credit to the owners.I thoroughly intend to return.

Great weekend away with the family

Had a fantastic long weekend stay at Harrison house. Excellent well equipped property with plenty of room for six adults. Great to have off street parking for 3 cars. Real bonus having the garden to enjoy which we were able to do until quite late at night. Mike could not have been more helpful before our stay and during. Excellent location to explore the Northern Lakes and only wished we could have stayed longer. Recommend the George and Dragon for a good meal - but make sure you book as very popular at weekends. We would definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

Spacious, clean, Well equipt in a lovely village ideal for relaxing and getting away for a break.

Me my husband and Oscar our dog had a fabulous long weekend in this beautiful house in May. It has everything and more that you will need for your stay you litrily have to just bring yourself, clothes and food/drink, they even had dog beds/bowls there for the four legged guests. The garden was secure so we had no worries over Oscar getting out. Towels and all kitchen accessories are there for you. It was big for the 3 of us but the photos sold it but you can easly get 6 people in and be comfy. Fabulous views from the back of the house and very peaceful. Just what we were looking for. Lovely pub 5 minutes walk with a big beer garden. We will 100% stay here again. Thank you for letting us stay.

Beautiful rental

Had a fantastic weekend at Harrison house, there were 6 adults, plenty of space, beds very comfortable. House well equipped and very clean. Had everything we needed. The Sauna was used and enjoyed by us, as was the tread mill. Would highly recommend and will defiantly book again.

Wonderful house, wonderful location

We have just had a wonderful few days in Cumbria, the property is furnished to a high standard, and it felt just like home. With two kids and two dogs sometimes its hard to find quality accommodation, I think we have stumbled upon a gem with this property. The location is excellent close by to Penrith and Ullswater. Communication with the owners has been great and we will definitely be returning again. 5 Star rating in my opinion . Andrew + Emma

Both Whitrigg House (www.whitrigghouse.co.uk) and Harrison House (www.harrisonhouseclifton.co.uk) occupy a village location are ideally situated affording easy access to the stunning Lake District National Park and Eden Valley. Both properties are also easily accessed from J40 of the M6.

M6 Junction 40 is 2 miles away. Penrith and it's West Coast mainline station is 2 miles away. Keswick, Kendal and Ambleside are each about 20 to 30 minutes drive. Clifton is on the edge of the Lake District National Park and Ullswater, Haweswater, Derwentwater and Thirlmere are all within easy reach as are Blencathra, Helvellyn and the High Street range of hills.

Further Details:

Harrison House is a beautiful barn conversion situated in Clifton 2 miles south of the market town of Penrith where supermarkets and shops can be found. The town also has a wide range of eating houses and pubs.

The village of Clifton is a farming village on the A6 just south of Penrith. The village has an excellent gastro pub, the George & Dragon which is within walking distance from Harrison House. The last battle on English soil was fought in Clifton in 1745 when the Duke of Cumberland defeated the remnants of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s army – the fallen soldiers were buried in the village churchyard and the fallen Jacobites behind the village pub. There is a memorial to the battle in the village.

The surrounding villages also provide many fine places to eat and visit. At Melkinthorpe is the Larch Cottage Nurseries, with its fantastic restaurant and the amazing Red Barn Gallery which has regular exhibitions from many renowned artists...a garden centre with a difference!

Brougham Hall is a 14th century property which is now a complex housing local artists and potters.

Lowther Castle is just a short drive from Harrison House and lovely short low level walks can be enjoyed within its grounds and the surrounding deer park. Just further on from Lowther Castle is the beautiful village of Askham which also has pubs, a craft shop and studio of local potter Stuart Broadhurst. Open in the summer months is Askham outdoor heated swimming pool.

For days when the weather is less clement, The Rheged Centre which is situated on the A66 heading towards Keswick, is a modern complex which has cinemas, craft shops, mountain shops and great cafes.

The list of things to do and places to visit is endless and Harrison House is ideally situated as a base from which to explore the Lake District and Eden Valley.

Booking Notes:
A deposit of 25% will be taken on booking and the balance at check in. Payment can be by cash, credit or debit card. If a credit card is used there will be a small additional charge.
A Refundable security deposit of £100.00 is required to cover any damage or breakages to the property.
Whilst we would like bookings to be of a week's duration we are more than happy to accept bookings for shorter periods with a minimum of 3 nights.

Changeover Day:
Harrison House can only be booked in its entirety and for weekly bookings the changeover days are Fridays. Arrival not before 16:00 and departure no later than 10:00

Harrison House:
Winter £600.00 per week
Spring/Autumn 660.00 per week
Summer £780.00 per week
Christmas/New Year £750.00 per week

A deposit of 25% is required at time of booking with the balance payable on check-in. If a booking is cancelled more than 2 months (3 months in the case of Xmas/NY bookings) ahead of the due date it will be refunded, but will not be refunded if cancelled later than those periods. A refundable deposit of £100.00 is also required against any damage or breakages.In the case that guests fail to arrive without notice then the full amount of the booking will be charged.

Stunning views of the Eastern and Northern Fells of the Lake District. We offer a small infra-red sauna and treadmill which are located in a wooden building located at the end of both gardens. We are lucky to have on our doorstep and in the local surrounding area lots of fine eating establishments from great pub-grub to high-end fine dining.
