Large property for hire, sleeping up to 40, set in an 11 acre hillside estate along the Pennine Way

Blackton Grange is a traditional stone built farmhouse which nestles deep in the heart of the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) rumoured to be England's last wilderness. Enjoying unspoilt views of hills and Blackton Reservoir, Blackton sits between the picturesque towns of Middleton-in-Teesdale and Barnard Castle.

The property accommodates up to 40 guests across 10 bedrooms, with further sleeping potential in our onsite camping field.

At Blackton we have 10 comfy bedrooms (two if which are en-suite), with a mix of single, double and bunkbeds to cater for every type of group. There are 5 shower rooms, 5 WCs and a disabled bathroom on the ground floor. We also offer both an indoor and outdoor meeting room, and a laundry room for guests to use.

The large, cosy lounge with open log fire is the ideal place for groups to gather and relax. Blackton Grange also has a fully-equipped professional kitchen, and a rustic dining room seating up to 24, and onsite catering can be easily arranged on request.

Situated in 11 acres of stunning hills and fields, our wonderful outdoor facilities include a garden patio with picnic benches, BBQ with an amazing view, and a camping field adjacent to the house.

There are hundreds of activities available at or in close proximity to Blackton: we have a fleet of mountain bikes available to you on request. Use these, or simply pop on your walking boots to explore the local peaks and rolling moors on your doorstop. Home to some of the country's best walking landscapes and plenty of beautiful wildlife, guests are guaranteed to leave Blackton with a lot of happy memories. The Baldersdale Valley is a fantastic place to explore on foot, and the Pennine Way runs alongside the house. Close to the spectacular High Force falls walk (reputed to be the highest unbroken fall of water in England), you could visit the lovely town of Middleton-in-Teesdale for delicious cream teas.

Activities that can be arranged for the more adventurous amongst you include kayaking, abseiling, gorge-walking, climbing, off-road driving, water-skiing and more: perfect for families, school trips, or groups of friends.

Alternatively you could use Blackton Grange as a base to explore some of the gems of the North East, including Barnard Castle, Beamish Open Air Museum, the National Railway Museum, and Durham Cathedral.

Facilities include disabled access, wifi, satellite tv, 10 bedrooms (two en suite), open log fire, bbq, fleet of mountain bikes as well as catering available on request.

Blackton grange is accessible from the A1, A66 and M6. Darlington is the nearest mainline railway station. Newcastle or Durham are the nearest airports. Car is essential due to the rural location of the property.

Distances:

Nearest shops are located in Middleton-in-Teesdale some 9 miles away. The nearest large town is Barnard Castle which is 9 miles away. Bowes museum and the Norman Castle are in Barnard Castle. The nearest pub which serves food is in Cotherstone /Romaldkirk approx. 7 miles. Surrounding villages are home to an eclectic collection of shops and country pubs.

2 supermarkets will accept online ordering and will deliver to the property. We can arrange catering if required for a special occasion. Outdoor activities can be arranged i.e. Kayaking, abseiling, gorge walking with some of these activities only a short walk away from the farmhouse.
