Gites de Montinazeau, Near Cheniers France - Peaceful Location Within 15 Minutes Of Lakeside Beaches And Amenities
The Gites offer comfortable and well equipped self-catering accommodation and are perfect for a quiet holiday in the beautiful 3 Lakes area of the Creuse Valley. Each of the Gites in this converted barn are comfortably furnished for four; one double bedroom and one twin with bunk beds; a good sized kitchen/diner and living area with a private deck which includes outside table and chairs overlooking the large shared garden. Set in a very tranquil and rural area, just the Gites, the English owners who are on hand if required for information and assistance and one retired French neighbour, we are surrounded by fabulous countryside where it appears as though time has stood still, dotted with lovely French villages and towns with lots of local markets and places to explore and enjoy. The quiet roads in this area, one of the least populated of France, make any outing a pleasure. An excellent spot for walking, cycling, fishing, wildlife watching, photography, painting..... or just sitting! As this is such a rural location we also benefit from no light pollution, providing fabulous night skies. Bed linen is included in the price but we are unable to offer Towels. High Chair, Travel Cot and a selection of games available on request. The Gites do not have heating, however a portable heater can be made available (there will be a charge for this service).

Guestbook comments from the owner
"I couldn't recommend this property highly enough, it was perfect for our holiday with the extended family with the 3 Gites next to each other. Thank you Andrew and Debbie - we will definitely be returning!"

"The 3 lakes gites are excellent accommodation for a relaxing tranquil holiday in central France. We travelled with one teenager and younger sibling and they had a great time. There is lots to do around the area with quiet man made beaches, walks along beautiful waterways and many markets to browse. We did kayaking and went on a boat trip which was really good. The location and set up of the gite allows the family to really spend quality time together without the normal distractions of 21st century living. Would definitely visit this gite and area again."

A relaxing holiday home.within a beautiful landscape. Friendly and helpful owners. Visit Chenerailles village followed by the afternoon in the Château de Villemontieux. Spend the day at lazing by the river at the Borg d'Hem. The Tuileries de Policy is worth seeing
On our arrival we were greeted to a very warm welcome by Andrew and Debbie. as we arrived a little later than anticipated they were there to greet us and show us the layout and facilities of the gite. Their knowledge of the area was so helpful it really made our holiday much more enjoyable.Even helped me with my appalling French pronunciation. One thing was outstanding was the fresh eggs that one could purchase from Debbie,s wee chickens.
We would highly recommend this gite to anyone who like peace and tranquillity in glorious countryside.
Thank you Andrew and Debbie for a lovely 2 weeks.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful week in the gite. To be honest when I was looking for our accommodation I wasn't sure if we needed to be nearer local amenities, ie within walking distance for morning pastries but we both enjoyed the tranquility of the gites and it worked well with the hustle and bustle of the cities we stayed in. Supermarket/bakery etc were only 10 minutes drive away and if returning from a day out you always had to drive through a nearby town so all accessible. The accommodation is well kept, clean, tidy and well presented (Andrew's photo's on the walls). You have your own decking space overlooking the large garden. It was so relaxing just listening to the birds and watching them and the butterflies move around. Andrew and Debbie are wonderful hosts, on hand for any questions about the area or problems. There was a problem with the shower (out of their control) and it was resolved very calmly, so thanks again for a memorable week Montinazeau.
Peaceful and Relaxing
If you’re looking to get away from it all, this Gite is perfect. The accommodation is rustic and charming and fully absorbed in the most beautiful countryside.
The area is typically rural France with a gentler pace of life. Andrew and Debbie are always on hand if you need assistance and have left plenty of idea’s for days out.
The Gite is set in a group of three, which is ideal if you wish to holiday with your friends. The gardens are beautiful, with its own wild meadow. The children loved running round and chasing butterfly’s.
The Gite also comes with a selection of garden toys (swing ball, boules, etc) which the children loved so much I had to buy on our return.
I couldn't recommend this enough and would recommend your email Andrew and Debbie if you need to know anything before you book.
From the Owner
“We chose this area because of its natural beauty, peace and quiet. There is always plenty to see and do, whether you enjoy walking, cycling, fishing, photography, painting, wildlife, local markets, eating out, swimming, canoeing, visiting some of the many local sites, or even just sitting, reading and enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the area. It also enjoys a beautiful climate!”
Activity and Interests
13 kilometers to the nearest lakeside beach (one of several within 40 minutes drive) which also provides cafe/restaurant and designated swimming areas during the summer months.
Access to Le Montinazeau is easy and we can be reached within a day using a network of good roads leading from the ports of Calais (approx. 6 hours), Caen (under 5 hours), Cherbourg (approx. 6 hours) or Saint Malo (approx. 5½ hours). We are situated roughly 25 minutes off the main A20 Motorway.
The Airport of Limoges is only one hour away if you want to fly-drive (a car really is essential to fully appreciate the area).
The nearest village is under 5 kilometres away and provides a grocery shop; Post Office and Bar/Restaurant. Larger towns are within 10 kilometres providing all services including Banks; Supermarkets; Restaurants; weekly Markets etc.
The Creuse covers about 5,565 km² with a population of less than 125,000 making it one of the least populated departments in the whole of France and definitely one of the most enjoyable to explore, with glorious rolling countryside; quiet roads; many beautiful lakes, rivers and historic towns, villages and sites to see.
Le Montinazeau can be found in the North of La Creuse in an area known as Les Trois Lacs (The Three Lakes) the nearest of which is just 15 minutes away and boasts a man-made beach with safe swimming, boating, a small bar and cafe/restaurant, free parking and walks.
There are many areas of interest all within 30 minutes of the Gites including (but certainly not limited to) the castle at Crozant, overlooking the valley where the Sedelle and the Creuse Rivers meet; Fresseline, where Monet and other artists came to paint; The Pilgrims Way (Le Chemin de St. Jaques de Compostelle), where it follows the beautiful Sedelle River; La Souterraine with it's medieval gateways and bustling market.
Only slightly further afield is Gueret where you can find the Wolf sanctuary; the Giant Labyrinth; the famous Monts de Gueret (with miles of beautiful walks and cycling routes); Limoges (famous for its porcelain and the birthplace of Renoir); Aubusson (designated Unesco site with its tapestries); Argenton-sur-Creuse (beautiful medieval town on the river with famous historic Roman site 'Argentomagus'); Le Haute Touche (animal reserve with over 1,000 animals from all five continents in a natural environment covering over 1,000 acres).
After a busy(!) day exploring, walking, swimming, sitting... you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the garden at Le Montinazeau and watch out for the local wildlife to be seen which in the last year has included; Deer; Red Squirrel; Stone Marten; Black Kites; Buzzards; Hobby's; Woodpeckers (Green, Greater Spotted and even Black!).
If you would like any further information please just let us know and we'll be happy to help.
