About Eileen Gilbert

Although Gardener's Cottage is in the garden of our home West Stow Hall it is totally private. We will not be breathing down your neck but are on hand if any questions or problems arise. I run the Hall as a Wolsey Lodge B&B while my husband works in London. We love the history and beauty of the Hall and Suffolk in general and enjoy seeing others discover how lovely this part of the world is and how much there is do.

Our dog, Monty, a border coliie cross is great. Very friendly and happy to accompany everyone every where. He is great when taken for walks as very obedient and - so far- has always returned when called!

New hens will be arriving shortly and we are happy for children to help with the egg collecting while there is apple picking in the autumn!

Lovely heritage

  • 5 of 5

The holiday home, called Gardener's cottage, is built in the spacious garden of West Stow Hall, a 16th century gem.

We have had a very very good time in the nice and big cottage. The cottage and his own garden gives you all you need to create a holiday to remember. The equipment in the house is totally sufficient. Good beds and cosy sitting room. And every window in the house has his own beautiful view.

The owners of the Hall are very kind and helpful. They give you their time, so we have had some very pleasant conversations.

From West Stow you are in Bury in 15 minutes and there are several nice trips to make in the neighbourhood as well.

  • Notes on accommodation: The cottage is a lovely comfortable home with plenty of space for a family on holiday. The bedrooms are of a good size and well equipped with wardrobes. The bathroom is fresh and modern having recently been renovated. The sitting room is large with plenty of space for a dinning table seating 6 and two settees. The oil fired central heating means its always warm and cosy while the wood burner is a special treat on cold evenings. The French windows open directly onto the south facing garden making it a lovely spot for a BBQ. The kitchen combines old fashioned charm and modern practicality having an electric cooker with double oven and a solid fuel Rayburn so if you want to prepare a casserole and leave it cooking whilst you are out and about that's no problem. All in all the cottage is a pretty, well equipped and very comfortable home from home. Outside: The garden is one of the particularly nice features of the cottage. There is a south facing patio to the front, ideal for BBQs; a kettle BBQ and Fire Pit are provided as are 6 wooden chairs and 2 tables. There are lawns and flower beds on 2 sides and a vegetable garden to third side. The rear has a small terraced area with views on to a paddock. It is totally private. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels, tea towels and all bed linen are included and changed weekly unless other arrangements have been made.
