Beautiful Thatched Grade II Listed Cottage near Stonehenge & Salisbury

Overview

Property

Updated: 14-Nov-2016
3 bedroom cottage with a large Inglenook Fireplace, & Garden with pretty Summerhouse

Old Turnpike Cottage (sleeping 6+), appeared as their "Thatched Property of the Week" in the Sunday Times - a charming traditional stone, thatched cottage in the pretty Wiltshire village of Teffont which is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It has a large inglenook fireplace and its own private south facing lawned garden with great views and a summerhouse. There are good transport links (Tisbury railway station is 4.4 miles away) and the village is 2.5 miles from the A303. Nearby there are great walks, country pubs, a National Trust property (Dinton Park & Philipps House) beautiful views of the English countryside. It is ideally situated for exploring all the local attractions of Stonehenge, Old Sarum, Salisbury Cathedral, Wilton House and the Nadder Valley which is well known for its fishing. Bath is a little further away and Bournemouth and its beaches about one hour's drive.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

The stay in the cottage was more than perfect. We enjoyed nearly 5 days in teffont with our two little girls. The cottage is absolutely as you can see it on the pictures and you can feel and see, that the owners put a lot of love in the renovation of the house. Teffont is a wonderful village and shops (food etc.) ar nearby. It`s a fantastic place to do a lot of sightseeing in the region (Stonehenge is 10 min. away but also Oxford, Bath and other nice places ar possible to do in a day).

Charming, well-appointed and cosy

  • 5 of 5

I've just come back from a week in this lovely thatched cottage and would definitely return. Though small, it is beautifully decorated and furnished to a very high standard. The owners themselves were very approachable and helpful with questions before and during our stay and we loved the summer house - any chance of electricity up there soon...? Very useful information about the local area and we made good use of it. Thank you vey much, Andy and Charlotte.

A charming cottage in a charming village.

  • 5 of 5

A big thanks to Andy for the use of the cottage. It was all we were looking for and more. A great place with lots of character, in a good spot for visiting Stonehenge, Longleat, Salisbury and Bournemouth just to name a few. We would definitely return to visit some of the places we didn't get time to see. All correspondence with Andy was delt with profesionally and promptly. Thanks again.

The most beautiful cottage, so well equipped and comfortable. We very much enjoyed our stay and I would recommend, the cottage and location for anyone who wants a breath of fresh air in a most peaceful location with plenty to do should you so wish in and around the area.

Excellent stay

  • 5 of 5

Turnpike cottage was all we had hoped for and more for our stay. The cottage is in a great location with easy access to everywhere we wanted to visit in SW England. The cottage's three bedrooms were very comfortable and provided our family plenty of room to spread out after spending the day sightseeing together.

Lovely Updated Brittish Cottage in the Country

  • 5 of 5

Beatiful and comfortable home in a quaint village near Stonehenge. This updated thatched roof home had easy parking in front and a wonderful back yard and summer home (gazebo) in the back yard. The kitchen is modern and contains all tools you need to prepare a meal, and the owner gets high praise for providing a Nespresso coffee maker for easy wonderful coffee. The house easily sleeps 6 people spanning three rooms. What made the stay so nice was the incredible information packet and tourist information left on the desk explaining how to get around and what there is to do in the nearby villages and for sightseeing. Our greatest surprise was finding Old Waldour castle nearby you can explore. If you have time check out the ruins at Rivington. We would like to provide a special thank you Alex G. Who checked us into the property and showed us around the home. She was so kind and accommodating and helpful. During our stay one of the children got sick and she even helped us get in to see her family physician. Having help like this while traveling and not sure how to negotiate foreign lands makes all the difference for great memories. This is a must stay experience. We plan on returning as soon as we can. We loved the area so much if we ever move to the UK we will think of Teffont!
