Beautiful and authentic

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful home! We had the most wonderful stay and would like to thank Pieter and Michele for sharing their beautiful home which has been restored to such a high standard with quality and style. Pieter was so professional and prompt in dealing with the booking and communications were great. His manager Ante who met us on arrival could not have been more helpful and was available at any time with advice and answers to queries. We were six adults and the house is plenty big enough for a large group. We loved all the little hideaway areas where you could seek out some peace and quiet and the views were so spectacular. You do need a car as the advice given and we loved the nearby beaches. Hvar is a beautiful island and we had an idyllic and relaxed holiday in this gorgeous villa.

Lovely stylish property with a great location

  • 5 of 5

Finding a stylish villa within easy reach of a beach is really hard, but Kuca Del Mar succeeds admirably. The location would be hard to better - a glorious view over the sea and about 15 minutes scramble/walk down a steep path to a charming small bay with crystal clear water. The villa is very well equipped and has been tastefully restored - the master bedroom was particularly calm and lovely. Stari Grad was a revelation and Hvar impressive, and not too overwhelming, both towns in easy reach by car. We had small hiccup with collapsing beds in one of the rooms but Ante was quickly on hand to try to sort out the problem. Really a beautiful coastline, and an exceptionally good property, very clean and well maintained and equipped.

Fabulous relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Kuca Del Mar with our two teenage daughters - all of us in need of a relaxing break to re-charge the batteries. The location is wonderful with sea views to enjoy whilst taking breakfast on the terrace.

Our arrival was delayed as a result of heavy thunderstorms en-route but Anti was there to welcome us, show us around the villa and provide useful tips on places to visit and restaurants.

Hvar is pretty much an unspoilt part of the Mediterranean as is most of Croatia. Hvar town can be busy but nonetheless it has a exciting buzz about it for an evening out. Many other smaller towns (Jelsa, Vbroska & Stari Grad) were equally enjoyable with a good array of reasonably priced restaurants. Me & Mrs Jones in Jelsa was excellent.

The beach bars at Zarace (our favourite was Bak) were very welcoming for an inexpensive evening meal though the walk back up the cliff was hard work!

The Villa contained all we could want during our stay and is an excellent base to explore the island though by the end of our break we found we had slipped into a very relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle and spent the last few days simply enjoying the villa, pool and surrounding landscape.

Car hire is essential though for nipping about. We used Mario Rent for boat excursions - a trip to the Blue Cave is an absolute must.

Would certainly recommend for families and small groups looking for a relaxing break away from the main tourist trail.

Thank you Pieter & Michele - we hope to return one day

Owner's Response: Dear Anthony, thank you very much for taking your time to share your positive experience. You are right to say that Hvar is still the unspoilt part of the Mediterranean and we hope that it remains. On the other hand Hvar town and the other villages are very lively, interesting and exciting. Good for evenings! About the house, the pool and the surroundings, you have had exactly the same feeling we have every time we come back to our house. Same as for our other guests; enjoying the relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle! We are lucky to have Ante taking care of the house and our guests, he is the one with the good tips and addresses! Anthony, your family and your friends are always welcome, any time in Kuca del Mar. Pieter and Michele

A beautifully renovated home, perfect in every way

  • 5 of 5

The property has been renovated to the highest standard and has all the amenities you could wish for. The views are stunning, the owners couldn't have been more helpful in planning our trip and also whilst we were there. There were so many pretty towns to see in Hvar and the beaches were stunning. I would recommend hiring a car, as the house does not have any amenities that you can walk to - apart from two beaches. Taxis are easily booked - although quite expensive compared to food / drink etc. A perfect holiday that we will certainly repeat.

Idyllic Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful place, beautifully restored, with lovely authentic touches and a superbly equipped kitchen with everything that we needed. We loved just simply being able to rest, sleep and eat in the sunshine on the terrace and by the pool with beautiful views out to sea. The pool is small, but perfectly adequate for cooling off. Ante was really helpful in sorting out minor electrical problems for us and we enjoyed sampling the beaches and restaurants nearby.

The ruined village just up the hill from the house is well worth exploring and is easily reached. A lovely house and we would be happy to return.

Charming house in an atmospheric setting

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our two week stay at Kuca del Mar, a charming house set in beautifully maintained gardens. The village has a fascinating history and the island of Hvar is a delight to explore, particularly from the sea - well worth hiring a boat. We had a couple of great meals in different restaurants in Zarace, but the walk up from the beach is steep in places and was too much for us in the summer heat. You really need a car to make the most of the location. Our favourite place on the island was Vrboska with its laid-back and friendly atmosphere. Lots of good spots for swimming in the sea here, and lovely shady walks along the coast under the pines. Our thanks to Ante who was very helpful and gave us good advice about the best places to eat and visit, as well as assistance with hiring a boat. Highlights of our holiday included sharing the pool with the local swallows, watching lizards hunting insects every evening on the terrace and sampling the fantastic wines of Hvar at every opportunity!

Location

From the Owner

We fell in love with the island on our first visit to Hvar. The preserved area hosting our villa appealed to us immediately; it is surrounded by green hills and overlooking the sea. With the years it turned out to be the perfect location which makes Kuca del Mar very special to us. The island, the food, the people, the weather, the surrounding sea, the secluded beaches, the romantic paths and Hvar's history ... all in all it is one of the best kept secrets for an ideal holiday destination. Our house is not a simple rental object; it is designed specifically to surpass expectations of guest and visitors. The views, the peacefulness of the place, the feeling of fullness invite to take a break and enjoy relaxation in the immutable atmosphere of the setting, the surrounding hills and the sea.

Facilities

From the Owner

It took us almost 7 years to restore the main house and the annexes, using traditional materials, local skills from the island and looking for harmony with the surrounding environment. Thanks to our restoration, continuous efforts and long negotiations with the public companies and local authorities these basic utilities finally arrived in Zarace bringing at the same time the village into the XXI century: connection to running water and electricity, restoration of the village path, preparatory works for public lighting …and keeping the authenticity. Now we enjoy the tranquility and privacy of the place ; we love surveying the garden, picking fruits during the season (oranges, lemons, figs, almonds …) , enjoying the smell of flowers and herbs (lavender, rosemarine, oleander, thyme …).
