Secluded Villa With Private Pool In The Heart Of The Italian Countryside

Updated: 17-Feb-2016
Villa in Pietranico, Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy - Peaceful Location With Stunning Panoramic Views, Yet Only A Short Drive Away To All Local Amenities

Sleeps 8+. 2 doubles, 1 twin, 1 double sofa bed and a camp bed available. 1 large lounge, entrance (used as a 2nd living area), dining room, kitchen and ground floor bathroom with a shower. You'll also find a family bathroom upstairs. This split level house would easily accommodate 2 families. There's a terrace around the house for eating/drinking/playing. Private gated pool. The local town of Torrei Di Passeri is a 5 mins drive away. You'll find bars, restaurants, 2 super markets and other shopping. You can also enjoy the local street market every Saturday morning. Extensive sandy beaches are 35 min drive away in and around the city of Pescara. At the coast you can find many shops, restaurants or just lounge on the beaches. For those that prefer a more active holiday, the nearby mountains provide many hiking trails, touring and picnicking opportunities. In addition, there are many Roman ruins, medieval castles, churches and other historical sites and 2 national parks all within the Abruzzo region. Pietranico is an old agricultural town. Located on a hill near the Rota River, the town overlooks the Pescara Valley and the views are truely spectacular. Its population is about 700 inhabitants. Pietranico offers friendly shops and bars which are frequented by very hospitable locals. The old center of the town is pretty much as it was, much of it dating back to the 15th century. The houses run up along the steep hillside giving a real 'Old Italy' feel to it as it's divided by narrow winding streets. The most important point of interest in Pietranico is the Oratory of the Madonna della Croce. Built in the year 1618, on the site of a miraculous apparition of the Virgin Mary, the exterior of the church is simple, in contrast to the interior, which is rather sumptuous. The most important festas in the town are on the 2nd and 3rd of May and the 14th and 15th of September, and both are dedicated to the Madonna delle Croce. Casa Antonio is very easily reached and superbly positioned for peace and quiet and provides a tranquil escape from the busy modern day life. It's easily accessible by car or train from either Rome or Pescara, each in turn served by a wide choice of low-cost and regular airlines. I will provide all bedding & indoor towels but ask that you kindly bring your own pool/beach towels. They can be rented for a small fee of e5. This is a washing fee. There's a selection of DVD films for both young and old, various books & toys (Boys toys mostly!) To keep you occupied as well as some games. Also a toddler push chair.

About the Owner

I bought the property based purely on the views! The house itself needed an awful lot of work doing to it. I've done the work slowly, over a number of years, and it's been a real labour of love renovating it!

My intention originally was for it to be our holiday home. Which it has been for some very happy years. I can now only visit it a limited amount of times, so have decided to rent it to offset my expenses.

It's very much a home from home and has been renovated with lots of love and care.

The area is a really unspoilt part of Italy with wonderful neighbours. I love italy, I'm lucky enough to call it my second home - away from all the hustle and bustle of England.

I hope you're holidays are all as happy as mine usually are.

“Catching some rays with the girls" 5*

Myself and 4 friends wanted to get away from the hustle bustle of London. We were there for 5 days relaxing by the fantastic pool and enjoying the breath taking sceneryWe only left 3 times, once for dinner in a great restaurant, once for more supplies from the local supermarket and once to go wine tasting!! The kitchen is very well equipped so we cooked most nights and drank the rather delicious and reasonably priced local wine - Perfect for a girls catch up.

“Glorious views, total peace” 5*

This holiday home really does feel like a home. We went for a family holiday with young children and extended family and had a wonderful time. The house is very spacious so we didn't feel at all on top of each other at any time, the pool is well enclosed with a lockable gate so children are safe. It is so quiet and peaceful up here (until the kids get in the pool of course!) We'll definitely be back!

Amazing views!

  • 4 of 5

The owner , Teresa, was very prompt, efficient and helpful during the booking process, answering my endless questions very patiently. The house and outside areas were as described in the details and the swimming pool was probably one of the nicest we have had. There were lots of pool toys available for children (of all ages!) and we found a table tennis table at the side of the property in an as yet unrenovated outhouse. The views from the pool and terrace area are stunning and we enjoyed lunches and evening barbecues looking out over the valley and mountains beyond. The house itself was much more spacious than we thought , with all the rooms being large and airy. The kitchen is extremely well equipped - in fact I can't think of anything which hadn't been thought of and provided throughout the house. We enjoyed some sightseeing, including a trip to Pescara and drives up to some of the lovely mountain villages(not for the faint-hearted!). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others who want a tranquil, relaxing holiday away from the hoardes. Also great value for money! The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that we did find the paved areas around the house a little stark without any planting or pots to add a splash of greenery or colour. I guess this is for ease of maintenance and it didn't really detract from our enjoyment.

Perfect relaxing escape

  • 5 of 5

Our week at Casa Antonio was perfect, the house has everything you need and the kids hardly got out of the beautiful, immaculately maintained pool. The house was lovely and clean and comfortable and we didn't really want to go out apart from food shopping. The supermarket in Torre de passeri is large and only 10mins away. When we did venture further afield the kids loved the water park at Vasto, which is an hours drive away. This was not our first visit and won't be our last!

From the Owner

I fell in love with the location of Casa Antonio. The views really are something else! They never cease to surprise me in their beauty. It's a completely different pace of life and after the hectic pace back home, one of the few places I can actually relax! Although, when I'm feeling up to it, there's some amazing runs, cycles and walks around the property as well as a punch bag in the shade. But it is time to share this special part of Italy with others that'll appreciate its beauty and treat my home as their home.

Activity and Interests

There are a number of beaches that run along the coast of Pescara. They are a 35 minute drive away.

The nearest airport is Pescara which is about half an hours drive away. In the summer there's flights daily from the UK. In the winter, it's 3 times a week. Although these are subject to changes so do check!

Rome airports are an hour and forty minutes drive through the mountains. It's a beautiful drive with plenty of Italian landscapes to take in. The freshly cooked pasta at the services stations is a must!

Further Details:

Abruzzo is located in central Italy and stretches from the heart of the Apennines to the Adriatic Sea, on a mostly mountainous and wild terrain. The natural landscape of the high and steep peaks of the Gran Sasso, Laga Mountains, and Mount Majella slopes down to a wide range of hills, until it finally reaches the Adriatic coast. The Adriatic Abruzzese coastline is a gorgeous mix of rocky coves and cliffs and miles of blissful sandy accessible beaches, with many awarded the european clean water Blue Flag.

Abruzzo has something for everyone - Numerous marked walking paths for all level of walker from gentle strolls between villages to ambitious hikes into the highest and wildest stretches of the Gran Sasso, by bicycle, or on horseback. You can also descover remote mediaeval villages, as well as the monasteries and castles of the region.

Abruzzo is also conveniently close to many of Italy's biggest urban centres (Rome and Naples are both within easy reach),

Pescara (which is the closest city) is a short 35km drive. From the mountains to the coastline, the whole province offers artistic treasures as well as sites for wellness and relaxation in close contact with nature. There's plenty of fabulous resrtaurants and a busy nightlife for those looking to dance the night away! Sun, sea, sports and fun are the keywords of the Province of Pescara, where wellness is the idea. In fact, the territory offers a mix of nature, suggestive landscapes and sport: an experience for the whole family.

From the Owner

I love the fact it's a holiday for different seasons. Each providing a very different kind of holiday to suit different tastes. Whether it be a beach holiday you're after, or something more energetic like skiing, hiking or golfing. All an easy reach away. Or if you'd rather just lazy by the pool and not leave Casa Antonio, it has everything you need. Putting in the pool some 4 yrs ago really completed the place. This summer (2014) will see it drained, cleaned and refilled with fresh water as every pool should be on a regular basis. Or so I'm told! The water will be as clean and blue as it gets.
