Park House is situated in the historic and pretty village of Barham in the Elham Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Barham has a village shop and popular, atmospheric village pub serving great food. Canterbury (6 miles) offers a wide range of specialist shopping, leisure facilities as well as numerous tourist attractions. Park House dates back to the mid-20th Century, the house has been extended and remodelled over recent years creating a fantastically modern and unique holiday home. Park House has an excellent outside entertaining area with garden furniture, sun loungers and outside hot tub - perfect for those star gazing evenings.

About JM

Andrew & Jill McElroy. We live in England with 8 children (most are now grown up) and our pet Labradoodle. Andy runs a small pharmaceutical business. Jill ran a small hotel for many years and now takes the lead in running our holiday lets.

Park House is in a great location where guests can enjoy the best of both worlds. We are nestled in the countryside but still very close to transport links and amenities. So much can be found in this area including great country walks, beaches, historical sites and shopping to name but a few. Canterbury is also on the high speed train line so day trips to London are quick and easy...taking only 57 minutes!

Park House itself is quite special. Secluded and spacious with fabulous gardens all ready for that game of croquet and glass of Pimms!It is warm, clean, contemporary and very comfortable. There is an outside hot tub and huge, private garden. Pet friendly.

Notes on accommodation: Guests will have sole use of the property. Please note there are 3 bathrooms but no bath - all have showers. Outside: Park House is approached by a gravel driveway leading up to the front of the house providing plenty of parking. To both sides of the driveway are areas of lawn with hedging on all sides giving excellent levels of privacy. A five bar wooden gate leads through to the rear garden, and garage which has a garden room attached one side. Together with the decked area this make a super outside entertaining area complete with HOT TUB! Accessed from the drawing room is a veranda with plenty of space for tables and chairs for outdoor entertaining. Immediately to the rear of the house is a further area of decking accessed from the kitchen and dining room. The garden itself is predominantly lawn bordered on all sides with a lovely mature walnut tree to one corner of the garden along with sycamore, conifers and Holly to name a few. To the side is a small vineyard. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Property is cleaned prior to each new guest. All linen, towels ant bathrobes included

The property is gorgeous and bright. It was perfect for my family stay.

The place was beautiful, and it was great to get away from London. We had plenty of space inside and the garden and outdoor space was great for the kids as well as adults.

The bedrooms were especially nice and the attention to detail was really great. With bath robes, towel sets and mini toiletries for each guest, plus a complimentary bottle of water by our bedsides, you could tell and appreciate the owners have really thought about their guests' needs.

The kitchen was fab, well equipped and a delight to cook in. The complimentary home-made Victoria sponge cake was absolutely gorgeous.

We visited Canterbury and Folkestone beach which were only short drives away. My family had a wonderful time.

Fantastic weekend!

Everything we imagined and more. The house is beautifully kept and a large space to suit the 14 ladies making the most of a long relaxing weekend. We arrived to a welcome cake, wine and lots of kitchen essentials. The rooms were large and clean with towels and shampoo/shower gel provided which was a lovely touch. The hot tub is great fun and the garden area is huge- with picnic rugs, croquet set, and games to entertain. All in all a wonderful stay and we hope to be back!

This is a lovely house, well equipped and in a fantastic private location. We rented this property for the Easter weekend and I could not say enough about it. The house was beautiful, even better than the photos! Jill was wonderful, she helped us find a private chef and we were able to schedule a grocery delivery which made our lives so much easier. I would recommend this property and I cant wait to try out some of the other places that Jill has.

Stunning house, grounds and location

We had a lovely weekend at this property for my friend's hen do. The photos just don't do the house and gardens justice - it really exceeded all of our expectations! Efficiency of Communication with Jill the owner was exceptional. We would love to come back one day!

Spacious and comfortable

A lovely house, well equipped, warm and given the fact there were 12 of us every one could shower and bath with hot water constantly available. We made full use of the hot tub and brought in a chef to cook a meal which we could all enjoy sitting comfortably at the dining table which seated us all. Well positioned for Canterbury which we went too a couple of times during our stay. I have nothing but positives to say about the house we thoroughly enjoyed being there. Jill and John helped us settle in and overall we'd love to go back.

Beautiful stunning home.

What a magnificent, stunning property, with just about everything you could possibly need..... from a beautiful homemade cake and wine upon arrival - to the very relaxing hot tub being all ready and sauna

(didn't take long to warm up) with robes in every room cosy blankets, and candles in numerous ornate holders dotted around the decking area, made it look very pretty by night. As a treat we hired a chief to come in and had a very enjoyable evening experience. Love to return one day. Many thanks Jill & John

To the north there is the picturesque town of Whitstable (17miles), known worldwide for its oysters.

The sandy beaches of the Thanet Coast are approximately 18 miles away. Within half an hours drive you can find the beaches of Herne Bay, Broadstairs, Margate with the new Turner Contemporary exhibition, Folkestone and Hythe among others.


The nearest airport is Kent International Airport (18 miles).

The Channel Tunnel at Folkestone (16 miles) and Ferry port at Dover (15 miles) are within easy reach for a day trip to France or beyond!

The village of Barham is served by a bus service to Caterbury and surrounding area (check local timetables). There is a rail station at Bekesbourne (3mls), on the Dover-Canterbury-London line.

A Car is not essential but recommended in order to enjoy the area more fully.


The property is just five miles East of the city of Canterbury. There is a large outlet shopping centre at Ashford (20 miles). The castles of Kent are all within easy visiting distance at Leeds, Dover and Rochester. Howletts Wild Life Park is just 3 miles away.

Further Details:

Ideal situation for anyone who wants a quiet self-catering family/group holiday. Park House sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms and a further 2 can be accommodated on a double sofa bed within a bedroom. There is also opportunity for camping in the garden for larger family groups.

A good range of supermarkets are within 10 minutes drive or smaller local shops in the next village. We have a great local pub serving food just 5 minutes walk away.

This is an ideal base to visit the many attractions in Kent including Canterbury with its many tourist attractions such as the historic and beautiful cathedral. Canterbury has a wide selection of restaurants, cafés and pubs.

Park House is also very well located for trips to London with the high speed link taking only 57 minutes to central

"The North Downs Way National Trail offers walkers 153 miles (246 Km) of spectacular scenery, picturesque villages and glorious rolling countryside, passing through the Surrey Hills and Kent Downs Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You don’t have to walk the Trail in one go to enjoy the best it has to offer. There are a number of circular walks based on the Trail for everyone to enjoy".

The national wildlife and nature reserve of the lower Stour valley and wetlands provides excellent walking and birdwatching, and Wingham Wildlife Park is close. There are several cycle routes and we are situated directly on National Cycle Route 1 (which connects Dover with the Shetland Islands!). Canterbury has extensive sports facilities, a golf course and Leisure Centre while Sandwich has the world-famous St George’s Golf Club, regular host to the Open. Howletts Zoo and Wildlife Park is 5 miles away at Bekesbourne. The National Fruit Collection is at Brogdale, near Faversham. Nearby Goodnestone Park, with its connection to Jane Austen, has well-known ornamental gardens. Sissinghurst and Great Dixter gardens; Dover, Walmer, Hever and Leeds castles are all within reach.
