About the Owner

I work locally as an ecologist and have worked in the past on educational projects for organisations like Scottish Natural Heritage. Although my family and I have lived here for 25 years, we have still much to learn about the this amazing place. Having the Glen Affric Nature Reserve on the doorstep, close access to the high tops and miles and miles of forestry tracks and trails for running on, biking and general exploring, are key reasons why we enjoy living here. We also love the peace and quiet and gentle pace of life in this very rural area.

Our Second Home

  • 5 of 5

As the title says, we have been to The Croft 3 times and it does feel like home. Also you couldn't find a better place than Tomich to let the rest of the world rush by and just sit and relax or for getting out about to see the Highlands. So if your thinking about clicking that button to book a stay what are you waiting for.

Liz didn't pay me for this review. :)

Really enjoyed staying at The Croft and getting away from it all. A quiet, peaceful location surrounded by trees. Great pub and cafe just a short walk away.

Could not wish for better!

  • 5 of 5

The Croft is a lovely house situated in a beautiful setting, it is very peaceful and tranquil, a perfect place to relax and unwind. It is off the beaten track, but not remote, small shops and eating places are within easy reach either by car or for the slightly more energetic by foot.

The property is adjacent to the beautiful Glen Affric with its Dog Falls and spectacular scenery, in fact the whole area is a visual paradise. Plodda Falls that can be easily reached from The Croft is a sight not to be missed!

The Croft is comfortable and very well equipped with all the facilities and home comforts you could wish for, a really 'home from home' property. Liz is a lovely lady, delightful and welcoming, we were so pleased that we chose her property.

We would highly recommend the property, we had a super time and look forward to returning in the not too distant future.

Many thanks Brian Chantler and Family

Spacious lovely house in a fabulous scenic area.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely house with everything we needed. Excellent base for our holiday. Plenty of space for the 6 of us. The lovely Glen Affric right on the doorstep with pony trekking at Cougie. Glen Strathfarrar not too far away. Dolphin spotting at Channory Point on the Black Isle with a lovely beach for the children to play on. Would highly recommend.

Location

From the Owner

About twenty five years ago we came to Glen Affric to work. We loved it here and were offered a little cottage, the croft house, to rent. The owners kindly offered to sell us the house and although we had to move to Perth, we were allowed to holiday-let it in the summer to cover our purchase payments. Several years later we returned to the cottage to live permanently and to raise a family, as it is a perfect place for this. We built a timber framed, eco friendly addition onto the house, which took many years, as self-builds do, but gained many skills in the process and the kids enjoyed all the sawdust and mess. With children now adults, we are building another house on a site near Cannich, and renting out the Croft to people who want to get to know this beautiful area.

Facilities

From the Owner

What i enjoy about living here is: the peace and quiet, no background noise of traffic, just bird song and the river; the clean air - all the trees and stones are thick with lichens. The space - you walk out the door and you can go for miles and miles in any direction, paths, forest tracks, quiet single track roads. There are rivers to picnic by, waterfalls, and lochs and pools to swim in. There are route guides at the house, to help you explore the area, by bike, car and on foot (by canoe and on horseback too - if you like!) and there are identification guides for plants and animals too. I love watching barn owls fly past the window on dusk, finding slow worms in the compost heap and hearing the stags roaring in the Autumn. The starry night skies are the icing on the cake!
