Bearn charm

We found this a most comfortable house, and really conveniently located very close to some lovely cafes, shops and restaurants. We could have driven to restaurants outside of the town, but it was nice just to leave the car parked, and explore the town. There are plenty of places to eat. We had breakfast on our balcony in the sun every morning, and gazed out on to a charming medieval street. The house is in a quiet location, but only minutes to the centre of the town. There is plenty to see and do. A short walk in one direction took us to the spa and pool, in the other direction a wooded hillside with superb views over the town. The countryside beyond is wonderful, whether heading into the mountains or the outstanding coastline at Biarritz, just an hour away. The house has plenty of space, and is well set up for catering at home, if you prefer staying in. There is a big lounge to relax in if the weather is not ideal, but even on a rainy evening the cafes and restaurants are easy to reach. The house is well equipped, and would easily cater to the average family. We would recommend anyone staying that they take the opportunity to explore the mountains - there are some wonderful drives, outstanding walks, and some awesome scenery. Check out the eagles as you drive over the high passes. As for the coast, the swimming at Biarritz is excellent. This town has a real sense of 'riviera' about it, but not as crowded. There are huge beaches and the town is easy to get to, to park in, and find somewhere decent to get a cup of tea in. Sit on the terrace outside the Casino and watch the sun go down over the surf. Who needs Cannes?

Great base for a stunning region

  • 4 of 5

This property provides all you will need for a great place to stay and enjoy everything that this lovely part of France has to offer. The house has everything that a couple might need for a two week stay (including a further small bedroom and a sofa bed for any visiting friends!) The sitting room is bright and airy and the bedroom comfortable. The house was clean and very welcoming and there was lots of helpful documentation provided in order to make the most of our stay.

The main asset of this property is its location in the heart of this lovely historic town. It is possible to gaze over the medieval rooftops from the balcony and wonder how on earth anyone manages to make modern services function at all in such an area!

The town square is within 50 metres of the house and parking available close by (or on the street if your car is small). The town has several lovely restaurants and we particularly enjoyed La Grignotine.

Nearby there are beautiful historic towns to explore plus fishing and other outdoor pursuits. So much to do that we didn't even make it to the coast-good enough reason to have to return!!
