About the property

Restored Farmhouse near Vannes, Morbihan, Brittany, France - In Rural Hamlet 15mins From Vannes and 30mins From Coast Sleeps Up To 9 (4 Bedrms)

The original farmhouse and adjoining barn have been sympathetically restored to create a comfortable and spacious 4-bedroomed family holiday home, while retaining much of its original rustic air. All rooms face south. Surrounded on three sides by about an acre of secluded garden, the house offers a 10-metre heated and securely fenced swimming pool (May 1st - Sept 30th), together with sweeping views over the neighbouring farmland and countryside. The extensive secure garden is safe for children to explore and enjoy, while the terrace surrounding the pool is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the sun. Served by the rural town of Grand-Champ (around 3 miles away) with its traditional shops and supermarket, the house is only a 15 minute drive from historic Vannes, with its medieval centre, impressive ramparts and award-winning gardens, and the stunning Gulf of Morbihan. It is also within 30-40 minutes of many beaches and charming small ports, both within the Gulf of Morbihan and on the Atlantic coast. Further afield, you may wish to visit Carnac with its rows of standing stones, the Quiberon Peninsula and Cote Sauvage, Concarneau, Josselin or Pont-Aven, the erstwhile home of Van Gogh and his fellow Impressionists.

About Robert Anthony Spray

I am a retired Finance Director and Management Consultant who has worked throughout Western and Eastern Europe on Industrial Restructuring and Regional Development. Although we still live in England, my extended family and I find very relaxing the French approach to life - work to live, don't live to work.

Robert Anthony Spray purchased this farmhouse in 2000

Why Robert Anthony Spray chose Morbihan

When I was working as a Company Director in NE France in the Nineties, my wife and I spent a holiday with a Breton colleague at his home in the beautiful Gulf of Morbihan. We fell in love with the area and resolved to buy a retirement home there. However, that was before our 5 grand-children started to arrive in England and our retirement home became, instead, our Family Holiday Home in France

What makes this farmhouse unique

The property has been designed to provide a self-contained family holiday home. Some of our guests just spend the days there, enjoying the sunshine, the pool and the garden. Others find it an ideal centre from which to explore the stunningly beautiful Gulf of Morbihan and surrounding region where the seafood is fantastic and the British are welcomed as friends and old allies by the local population.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fab week at your House and thoroughly enjoyed it- the weather was great too for most of the days.

I would give the house 5 stars and recommend it to anyone who was looking to go this area.

We all loved the pool area and the Kids loved being able to just nip in the pool each day without the usual trek off to the beach etc. The house was really well equipped and it was a delight to have such a well stocked kitchen even with sharp knives, which are usually missing on most holidays we have been to.

Lovely house with everything you need

  • 5 of 5

Bob was fantastic at every step of the process and dealt with all my queries quickly. The house has all amenities and is in a quiet hamlet, close to a fast road to get you around. Following Bob's recommendations, we discovered lots locally for us our family with a 2 & 4 year old. We enjoyed Suscinio castle and the beach area down in Conleau. The Domaine de Kerguehennec was fantastic on a hot day: we sat by the lake for a picnic and wandered through the trees and amongst the sculptures. Vannes was lovely and we enjoyed market day - we arrived early as directed, thank goodness! At Locmariaquer, I'd recommend the boulangerie right on the port for wonderful baguettes and cakes. Restaurants: I thought Le Manegwen was great - such good value - a truck stop where you get buffet starter, then order a main, then a choice of desserts. Including a bottle of wine the total price for 4 of us was just over 30 Euros! Le Guignette in Conleau was fantastic for the children - I swear their food was brought out in less than 2 minutes! - again, very reasonable and great for our first outing. A place we found that I'd recommend to anyone heading to Suscinio is the Creperie Bara Breizh which is just off the main road. Amazing sweet pancakes, but loved the savoury galettes too and great service.

Thank goodness for the amazing pool which is a great size for the half-hearted swimming I am capable of, and also suitable for the children (who wore their float vests). Thanks for the supply of pool toys/noodles which kept everyone occupied - it was difficult to get my son out of the pool. It's securely gated for safety, in line with French regulations, so not a worry to have the children around. There was a minor issue with the pool whilst we were there which the local agents resolved promptly.

We were provided a lovely welcome hamper on arrival - the sparkling wine was great; I wish I'd taken notice of what it was!

Other travellers might like to know: a car is essential as you are in a hamlet so need to drive to anything, usually about 30 mins. Grand-Champ has the Carrefour for local shopping. St Malo is an easy drive. The upstairs bedrooms get very hot in hot weather (temps were mid 30s one day) - typical for this style of loft conversion. I should have slept at least one of them in the downstairs bedroom from the start; later on, there was no moving them (creatures of habit!).

All in all, a great break! Thanks Bob!

Owner's Response: I'm very pleased Melissa and her family enjoyed their stay at our French house, particularly as it was, I understand, their first family holiday abroad. With regard to the upstairs bedrooms, all have opening velux windows and oscillating fans are provided for use in hot weather. The "children's bedroom" has a fan and an end window and velux windows on either side, which, when opened, normally gives a good airflow through the bedroom.

Great for a family holiday

  • 5 of 5

This is our third visit and once again we had a lovely family holiday, with our teenage children. The house is really comfortable and well-equipped. The pool is great there is plenty of space to relax in the sun! Away from the house, there are lots of small towns and beaches to explore and the owners have provided very detailed information to help visitors enjoy their holiday. We will definitely be re-booking!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week staying here for our third time. As always, we loved relaxing in the beautiful garden which has lots of space for the children to play games. We enjoyed sitting around the big table table outside with a glass of wine and the barbecue cooking! The Pool was beautiful with comfy loungers to relax by the pool. The House is very well equppied and again there is lots of space for all of us. Thanks for a great week. Amanda and family

Excellent property, well equipped, beautiful pool

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time in Kermenezy. The property was very well kitted out for a large family (10 of us).

There was plenty of space to sleep us all and the beds were really comfy. There was also plenty of space to live in too.

The garden was vast, and the pool a really great size for us all.

There was also lots to do in the area to keep us entertained.

Owner's Response: We're very pleased that the Larkum family enjoyed their stay at our House in the Vannes area of Brittany - their first visit to France, we understand. It is particularly pleasing to note that, although the number of guests was one above our recommended maximum, they still found that the Property, Grounds and Heated Pool all offered them loads of space and comfort.

Lovely, tranquil and great for the kids

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at this beautiful location on the 8th August. It was easy to find and has quick access to Vannes and the local amenities whilst being subtlely hidden away from main roads and passers by. The grounds are lovely and the swimming pool was fantastic for the kids with the house also being well stocked with games and activities to keep them entertained. The local village is very well kept and has a good number of nice bars and restaurants as well as a very well stocked supermarket. We visited a number of nice places that were within an hours drive and would not hesitate to return. Well recommended for both adults who want some "self" time or a summer break with the children.

Family Holiday

  • 4 of 5

We chose the property mainly for it's heated pool and large, private, secure garden both of which we thoroughly enjoyed as a family. The location of the property suited us as were able to head to the beach within 30 minutes or visit one of the lovely markets in Vannes or Auray. However, we always enjoyed coming back to the tranquillity of the property and enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool! We would highly recommend this property and hope to come back again another year very soon.
