My husband and I brought our 2 year old sone here on a 3-night mini-break from London for a bit of fun and relaxation before baby number two arrives. We could not have had a better time! We stayed in the Wishing Well Cottage and from the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome by our kind hosts. The cottage could not have been nicer....we were able to sleep in one of the lovely and comfortable rooms while our son slept in the neighbouring bedroom in a travel cot provided for us. All three of us slept wonderfully, which is more than we can say for when we're at home!
Our son quickly began to call the cottage his "holiday home", and enjoyed setting up his trains and playing in the lovely sitting room, where we were able to light a fire in the woodburning stove after he had gone to bed. Had it been summer we also would have enjoyed the garden.
The cottage was equipped with everything we could have needed, spotlessly clean, warm and inviting. We enjoyed evenings in on every night except one, where we hopped across the road and had an exquisite meal in the Crossways restaurant. We were very glad we did this - it was a real treat in fine dining!
One afternoon we also visited the Wishing Well Tea Room in our front garden, where the hosts were incredibly lovely and treated our son extremely well, even letting him go back to the kitchen to help get milk out of the fridge. The scones and tea were lovely and the atmosphere and decor was too.
The area was chock full of fun family activities, including Drusilla's zoo (complete with Thomas the Tank engine for little ones to ride on!), a must see. Middle Farm was also great fun and right down the road...we bought food there, visited the gift shop and restaurant, and our son enjoyed seeing all the farm animals up close and personal as well as playing in the hay play barn (especially with the foul weather, the latter was an enjoyable way for him to let off steam). On the way back to London we stopped at Brighton and visited the aquarium. Could have stayed for weeks and still found fun things to do.
We will definitely be returning!
