This lovely house in a quite village is a very peaceful and comfortable place to experience French village life whilst being only a few minutes from the local town with the boulangerie, boucher, supermarche and all general services. In summer you can dance to the music by the riverbank or enjoy canoeing on the Orne river. Day trips allow you to explore places of historic and natural interest. Mont St Michel in the south, Honfleur to the north, the beauty of the timbered houses and cheeses of the Pays D'Auge, the history of the D-Day beaches. Perhaps hop on the train to Paris for the day. Come home to a traditional French fire place and enjoy the evenings with a BBQ in the private garden.

About the Owner

Welcome to our home from Bill and Bernadette. We are an Australian couple who fell in love with 'Le Coucou' in 2010 and despite many questions about why two Aussies would have a holiday home in France (pourquoi?) we knew this was a home we would love (pourquoi pas?). Bill is a retired IT person and I still work as an academic and a clinical psychologist. Le Coucou is not a 'flash' hotel so if that is what you are looking for it is not the place for you but if you are looking for a comfortable farmhouse that allows you to experience French village life whilst being close to so much of the history and beauty of France then I think you will also love this place. We were given an amazing opportunity by Bill and Bernie to rent their very practical and amazing house in Normandy from Christmas 2012 through til June in 2013. It soon became our home away from home and we survived the longest winter in France since 1933 thanks to the wood burner and the lovely warm quilts. The best part was experiencing waking up to snow in the mornings and the gorgeous vista of the paddocks and valleys around Le Coucou with their white blanket (there were no leaves on the trees and the view much more open, we could even see over to Cahan!!)....The location was brilliant and we loved the markets in Falaise, Flers and Conde sur Noireau. We explored the smaller towns of Clecy and Thury Harcourt often, there are so many treasures, great places to eat, tabacs with excellent coffee and beer. We just loved being locals....



Thank you both for this wonderful place. Thanks to your ancestors for surviving the ‘Battle of Hastings’ or ‘Waterloo’ whoever’s side they were on

Splendid days for whole family in heart of swiss normandy

Located in the very heart of swiss normandy, this spatious and well cared-for house offers great amenities for each one of our family:

great kitchen facilites, comfortable living room with fireplace, W-LAN, lots of space, and kids can simply have fun in the spacious garden.

Most lovely place in a quiet area, but with easy access to a large variety of close-by attractions in swiss normandy and normandy.

Best place to get the best of all:

relaxation as well as fun in a myriad of out-door and leisure activities,

great food in restaurants as well as home-cooking with delicious food from local markets,

simply perfect spot for recreation, for all big and small!

This had been our third stay and we simply got addicted ...

Excellent

The house exceeded our expectations in every way. Very clean & tidy. Lovely sized kitchen & lounge area. Upstairs are three good sized bedrooms. The grounds are large & unpretentious.

The surrounding area is delightful, highlights being Pont d'Ouilly; a lovely, picturesque town with all amenities needed. The Pomme d'Ouilly restaurant being highly recommended. Condeau sur Noireau has a lovely market and Failaise is beautiful larger town. The castle there being a gem of a visit.

The owners were always prompt in our dealings.

All in all, we had a lovely week at Le Coucou.

Highly recommended.

Quiet and peaceful area of Normandy

A great 2 weeks the house was quite and comfortable in a lovely area of France.The house was comfortably furnished and provided all the facilities we needed for the holiday. We enjoyed the warm evenings dining in the garden. The house was in a good position for plenty of good days out to Bayeuax, Pegasus bridge, The D-Day beaches, William the conquerors castle and many other places. Our grandson enjoyed the large garden for running around in.

A perfect setting, a very comfortable house

We had a lovely stay in a very well appointed property, with plenty of space and all that we needed in a well kitted out kitchen. A very helpful folder of information about the house itself and the locality was provided and proved to be invaluable. I would definitely recommend Le Coucou to relatives and friends.

Comfortable, quite, lovely area of France

A Lovely week in a quite and comfortable cottage in a lovely area of France. The cottage was comfortably furnished and provided all the facilities we needed for the week. We enjoyed the remoteness with just the bird chatter for company. The surrounding area provided for plenty of good days out to Mont St Michael, Bayeuax, Pegasus bridge, The D-Day beaches, William the conquerors castle and the lovely town of Clesy where we had a relaxed afternoon sitting by the side of the Orne with a cold beer under the cliffs in one of the river side bars, and this is to name just a few we could make it to during our stay, leaving plenty more to do on a return visit one day. My two girls particularly liked the wifi and British TV available in the cottage!!!

Beautiful house in sleepy hamlet

You have a beautiful house in a fabulous location, we have really enjoyed visiting this area of France, unknown to us until know.

We have explored the area, taken the boys to the Normandy landing beaches, Falaise castle, our youngest, also called William has been amused by William the Conqueror's other name!! Went on the luge on Wednesday and on the velo rail the day before so found plenty to do and see, just off to get breakfast from Pont d ouilly before a rendezvous with the local Calvados producer at 10:00!!

Been a bit on the cool side for August but hasn't stopped us doing anything, but it looks like its cool at home as well, bad news is that we will have to get up early tomorrow to get the ferry home.

Location

From the Owner

The house is in Suisse Normandy, classified as an area of natural beauty. Many people visit to canoe, cycle or just enjoy walking through the countryside. We enjoy this regional beauty but also the proximity of the area to so many of the wonderful French experiences. Favourite day activities are the Saturday markets at Falaise, the weekend Vide Greniers, the beautiful ciders and cheeses of the Pays d'Auge and eating Moules by the harbour in Honfleur. Experience the D-Day beaches, the peace museum at Caen or drive a little further to the battlefields of world war 1. Every time we visit we take a weekend to explore the Loire or perhaps travel down to St Malo. To come home to the fire and a glass of French wine or those long summer evenings with an Aussie BBQ and a Toulouse sausage!

Payment is by Internet Bank Transfer to our French Bank account We will require a security deposit of £200. The security deposit will be refunded after your holiday provided we find everything is left as you found it on arrival.
