About the property

Lovely cottage in Polgooth - well placed to explore Cornwall with safe, sandy beaches close by.

Brookside is a charming, South facing Cornish cottage that sits in a quiet country lane. The cottage is more than 150 years old and has been refurbished to a high standard, decorated in a simple, modern style yet retaining its period charm.

The cottage offers privacy when dining al-fresco on the patio plus spacious accommodation for six plus a cot with three bedrooms (two doubles, one twin) and a large family bathroom. The lounge-dining room has a huge original stone fireplace with an efficient wood-burning stove. Furnishings are modern yet invitingly comfy.

The cottage looks onto a peaceful, pretty lawned garden with rose bushes, edged by mature trees and shrubs with a natural granite slabbed patio area that faces south, enjoying direct sunlight all day long. Both front and rear gardens are private and fully enclosed by walls, fences and natural hedges. A wealth of mature plants and flowering shrubs (camellias, rhododendrons etc.) surround the property. There is ample parking at the front for several cars.

Just a short stroll along the lane is the village pub.The Polgooth Inn serves great local beers and food prepared using locally sourced produce. It`s a proper family-run place that welcomes children and animals and serves food all day both in the pub as well as the garden. There are more excellent pubs and restaurants within easy reach of Brookside, including Austells (3 mls.) and Kingswood (0.5 mls.)

There is a village shop/off-licence/post office, while larger supermarkets are within a mile or so.

Polgooth is perfect for exploring Cornwall due to its central location. The Pentewan valley which Polgooth borders is great for walking or cycling the dedicated trails leading to the coastal villages of Porthpean (fabulous safe family beach, sailing, watersports), Pentewan ( large beach plus watersports, gymnasium, restaurants), Mevagissey (ancient working fishing port, restaurants, shops) and Gorran Haven (sandy beaches, walks, great pub, coastal walks). Other local attractions include the Lost Gardens of Heligan, the Eden Project and the beautiful harbour village of Charlestown with its wonderful pub, restaurants and shops.

St.Austell golf club is on the edge of the village and Carlyon Bay golf club is just 3 miles away.

There is a convenient rail link at St.Austell (2 mls.) which is on the main London-Penzance route.

Children and dog friendly.

Free superfast broadband and smart tv.

Welcome pack on arrival.

Wonderful week at Brookside in Polgooth

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in a very beautiful cottage and area. Our friends and ourselves took our dogs along with us and they were made to feel very welcome and comfortable. The owners Geoff & Jeanette could not have been any kinder or more helpful and they made our stay very enjoyable.

We would highly recommend a stay at this beautiful cottage.

Great first visit, comfortable, clean and cosy

  • 5 of 5

Had a fabulous week at this beautiful cottage with our two dogs. There were lots of little welcoming touches & extras on arrival including a birthday card which was so thoughtful. The cottage is really comfortable with everything you need and more. The gardens, front and back, are delightful and fully enclosed which was great for the dogs.

Sunday lunch at the Polgooth Inn a short stroll away was perfect. Padstow is gorgeous and the beach amazing, huge & dog friendly (early March). And of course, no visit to Cornwall would be complete without taking in one or two of the great gardens and the cottage is in a perfect location for garden sight-seeing.

I was also really impressed with how easy it was to book and the pre-holiday comms from Geoff and Jeanette; lots of useful info and really speedy responses to queries.

All in all, a perfect experience. Thanks!

Fantastic second visit

  • 5 of 5

This was our second visit to Brookside and my family and I love it - if we could live there all year round we would.

The cottage balances its Cornish charm while remaining modern, very clean and well maintained. It is also very spacious and has all the comforts and conveniences of home. We have small children and everything you need is already in the cottage so you can pack that little lighter. The shower is amazing and so are the beds. We stayed for New Year and the cottage was decked with Christmas decorations which looked great at night.

It's location is a short walk from the village shop and pub which serves top food. We find it a great place to stay out of the crowds but with easy access to all that Cornwall has to offer.

The owners are very approachable, accommodating and happy to help with whatever you need.

As mentioned above, we love it here and will return a 3rd time for sure.

Clean, cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

We loved our week at Brookside, cottage was very clean and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Lovely location with front and back gardens both enclosed and great for our 2 dogs and 5 year old.

Stones throw from the Polgooth Inn which we went to a couple of evenings. Beautiful beaches, and most allowed dogs. The owners advised us to try the coastal walk to Vault beach and we were so glad we did - amazing! We will definately be back again!!

A perfect location for sight seeing and relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had the most wonderful time at Brookside. The cottage is welcoming, homely, spacious and beautifully presented. The gardens are just as gorgeous. We are a family who enjoy home cooked food so the facilities in the kitchen are second to none. The bedrooms a huge. Geoff and Jeannette are so friendly and gave us directions for some very beautiful walks. Cornwall is just beautiful and we have every intention of returning for another wonderful holiday. Our son wanted to pick the cottage up and take it for our home back where we live! I forgot to mention how clean the cottage was as well, I did not have to clean before I could relax. Just perfect in every way. A big thank you for allowing us to enjoy such perfect place for sightseeing shopping and relaxing.
