Our 4 bedroom 19th century house with an Art Deco theme lounge and dining room, pool room, kitchen and breakfast room, games room for chilling out, garage, walled garden and marble courtyard with the sun all day for up to 300 days a year. It is ideal for couples, families, groups of friends taking a holiday or short break relaxing or living it up in a French community within this beautiful place full of wonderful history and architecture. Walk out of the house for 2 minutes you are by the Aude river with 8 tennis courts, outdoor swimming pool, the River Aude and midi canal and the centre with superb restaurants and brasseries. La Cite with 11th century medieval city is on the hill. The local beach and lake is 4 miles, the Mediterranean is 30miles and pyrennees just 15miles.

We, the owners, are both professionals who absolutely love France - the people, culture - art, music, cuisine, the history, architecture, the ocean, the sea, sunshine, mountains, countryside - vineyards, the feeling of liberation. We could go on and on. This part of France provides for us so many of the really wonderful aspects of life which give nourishment, enjoyment and satisfaction. Many of which are no longer available in other places.

We all stayed at the lovely property for 1 week. The house was situated in a nice quiet spot yet close to walk into the centre. Accommodation was great and enjoyable. Carcassonne is a fantastic place. We had sunshine throughout. Needed more time to visit all the places the area offered. Will return again and stay at the same house.

We found are property in a quiet area of Carcassonne. It was a nearly blank painting, the outlines only. We have been able to place our own art onto this canvas creating the picture, our home. This has taken more than 10 years. A thoroughly satisfying journey. One day the painting will be complete, in time. Carcassonne is mostly original and offers so much to everyone. It sits in Languedoc-Rousillon a most superb area in southern France. The wine growing areas of Corbiere, Minervois and Fitou surround it. There is a local beach, the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees are close by. Travel is easy, by mainline train from Carcassonne, The airport is 5 kilometres from the house and the motorway and main roads are just5 kilometres

Toulouse Airport- Blagnac ( Easyjet and others )- 55 miles from house, bus , every 20 mins to Toulouse rail station - trains to Carc.

Other airports Bezier, Perpignan, Avignon, then train.

Ferry to St Malo then 9 hour drive, or train

Ferry to Santander or Bilbao - 5 hr drive, train

The furnishing and décor are mainly in a Art Deco style providing a luxurious surrounding which is relaxing, comfortable and invigorating. The games room has a professional Pool table, dart board plus other games. Themes are set in the four bedrooms- a French traditional, a Art Deco, a 60's and a 70's. The walled garden has beautiful marbled columns, walls and features which basques in rays from sunrise to near sunset for 9 months of the year. Walk 5 mins to the wooded area with tennis courts, open air pool, Aude River and Midi canal. Walk 5 mins to the Centre Ville with marbled squires, boutiques, restaurants, brasseries, the markets, shops. The magnificent 11th century La Cite sits on the hill 15 mins walk away. Festivals run for most of the year

  • Notes on accommodation: Parking is directly outside the house in front of the garage. The garage is used only for bikes and storage. A couple of steps to enter through the front door to small inner hall for cloaks etc. Another door takes you through to the hall with a marbled floor. Doors lead of this to the and dining room lounge, study area, games room and bathroom2 and stair to the first floor . From the dining room an entrance leads into the kitchen, breakfast and utility area. A double pair of French doors takes you up 6 steps to the walled garden. The stairs up to the first floor have 20 steps to the landing to the 4 bedrooms, full bathroom 1 and toilet. From two of the bedrooms double french windows take you onto the terrasse which overlooks the garden. All floors throughout the house are tiled with rugs or mats in many of them. Outside: Parking is at the front of the house. To the rear of the house is a delightful walled garden. The garden is accessed from the breakfast room, it has a magnificent patio with marbled walls and columns. Vines, trees and flowers are in this garden which has the sun all day. In this area are tables ,chairs, sun loungers, umbrellas and the barbecue A balustrade terrace accessed from bedroom 1 and 2, has table , chairs and sun loungers. This overlooks the garden. Utility Room: A joining Kitchen, with Washing Machine and Tumble drier, iron and board Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and 2 towels per person: beds made up for arrival. table cloths and tea towels. Hand towels in bathrooms and kitchen. Replacement bed linen and towels available at commencement of each new week. Additional linen and towels will be charged for. Other: Games Room - with professional Snooker and Pool table, dart boards, various board games
